We've had experiences with many contractors over the years. Electricians, plumbers, general contractors, etc. It is sad to say, but it is so frustrating to find an honest and trustworthy contractor. Often times, they quote you an exorbitant price, upsell other services/products, and leave a mess or unfinished work once they get paid. Mitch has repaired our pipes after the February freeze. He also helped install new flooring to our attic space, and completed several projects for my in-laws (flooring, roofing, water heater replacement, drywall repair). We finally found our handyman! He is communicative, courteous, and extremely trustworthy. He completes his work from start to finish with the utmost detail. I mean the level of detail that is usually reserved for one's own home or close family members. It speaks to the man's code of ethics. He believes in honest work at an honest price within a reasonable timeframe. His prices are extremely fair, that is not to say cheap or expensive, but fair for the quality of work being done. This week Prouty construction rebuilt a bay window wall that had fallen victim to some termite…read moredamage. This was in a nearly 40 year old home. The different stages of work that were involved included bracing the ceiling with a temp wall, replacing numerous 2x4 and 2x12 headers leading to the attic, and the base 2x4's on the foundation. Added insulation, and even added support lumber to the outside of the bay window that apparently was never there, but should have been. They replaced sheetrock on walls of two rooms (and textured) and replaced a bay window shelf. The whole job was complete in a couple of days by US citizens. We have nothing left to do but paint. In getting bids for this project, Prouty was not the cheapest but by far not the most expensive. In fact one carpenter we inquired about, when he heard it involved replacing 2x12 headers, wouldn't even consider the job. A project manager made site visits each day as well as a final follow up after the job was complete. This is a first-class operation that has been in business many years. While I *might* have been able to do some of this work myself, it would have taken 4x as long and not turned out nearly as good. We are now in talks about bathroom remodels and exterior siding. Two thumbs up.
