A few weeks after my 8 week program and not working out as often
    Xavier L.

I first started coming to Cutz last year during summer and signed up for the 8 week program. I've always had an on again/off again relationship with the gym and fitness where I would spend months eating unhealthy then try to undo it with different diets. I would cut out carbs completely, try trendy diets, not eat enough and often would fail and go right back to my old ways. I also never really knew what to do coming into the gym and would usually feel intimidated by everything. Getting to work with all of the trainers at Cutz has definitely changed my life. I know it sounds like an exaggeration, but it really couldn't be more accurate. All of the trainers have so much experience and knowledge that I believe they can help anyone accomplish their fitness goals if they are willing to put in the work. Whether you want to train for shows or are just looking for a new place to work out, this is that place. They listen to every person's goals and needs to get them not only looking great, but feeling great as well. The amount of positive energy everyone brings makes my day and continues to motivate me every time I come back. When you train at Cutz you're treated like family because it really is one. Everyone supports and motivates each other to be their best selves. I've learned so much by coming here from working out, eating healthier, living a better life, and so much more. I really couldn't recommend a better place to get in shape. TL;DR the trainers are amazing, got in shape, forever changed my life

She helps me get back on my program when I slip up, gives me tips on how to eat better and live better, and really kicks my butt into gear. She tells you like it is (both the good and the bad), holding me accountable to myself. You can tell that she genuinely wants to help achieve your fitness goals, which helps you feel not alone in the struggles that you might face to get there. Amy is awesome!

I have been seeing Amy for personal training sessions twice a week for almost 7 years. Prior to…read moreworking with Amy, I tried various group workout classes & gym memberships...never really getting the results I wanted and never getting "into it" enough to commit to exercising regularly for an extended period of time. My friend suggested that I look into a personal trainer, and I'm so glad that I came across Amy. She keeps me honest & holds me accountable to exercising regularly, both during and outside of my time with her. Her positive as well as no nonsense attitude has helped me find my way to a healthier lifestyle that I have been able to sustain over the years. I now know that I personally needed the dedicated attention & guidance of a trainer (which you often don't get from a large group class) to learn how to properly plank, swing a kettle bell, do a push up, etc ... as well as to identify what I need more / less of in my fitness regimen to get my desired results. One size doesn't fit all. The first time we met, Amy had me tell her my goals for training (fat burning, strengthening & toning) and then she came up with a workout plan to help me best achieve them. Amy has a great wholistic approach to training ... and I've always felt that she tries to equip me, via our workouts, to best "do life", wherever life has taken me. Examples: Because I have an office job and spend most of my work hours sitting in front of a computer ... which has led to a lot of lower back pain ... she has always incorporated movements that counteract that in the custom workouts she creates for me. She trained me, a newbie runner, through my first 5k and also trained me through my first pregnancy, so that I was strong and healthy before and after delivery. And even now, as a new mom, she always likes to make sure that I can handle 35-40 pounds like a piece of cake, since I often have to carry my 4 year old, 35 pound daughter. Quite frankly, I'm better able at walking & carrying my daughter than my husband! :) Amy is super knowledgeable and a great person / positive force to just know. You won't regret working with her.

I took the course with Coach Liz who is seriously such an incredible instructor. I really appreciated that she took some time to help me understand the reformers, and covered a few things we'd work on before course started. This was helpful as I had a strain that I was recovering from. It was enough to pull through a class that I so desperately needed because *mental wellness* is important! I really enjoyed her workout because it was a total body workout, but there was an emphasis on arms which I REALLY loved. Other classes I have of course have arm workouts incorporated with lunges and such, but she was able to do that AND have just a focal point on arms. It was a GREAT work out! Her enthusiasm in the class is so infectious and the class community was warm. Forgive me as the desk attendants name, but she was also very courteous and helpful. What a wonderful person to greet students in. Plank + Power is very lucky to have a great team. I would encourage anyone who wants a solid workout to try it out here. I hope to be back whenever my schedule allows!

I came to Bay Strength after many years of on and off weight training with self-coaching using primarily the Starting Strength book and video resources. My form was "good enough" that when I tried getting coaching at other gyms I was always disappointed because they would say, "looks good," although I knew I needed some fine tuning. At Bay Strength I did the "Learn to Lift" package and while my form actually was pretty good, Kelly had plenty of specific feedback to make it better. Then I joined Gwyn's weekly class and get programming based on my needs and goals, and valuable feedback in every session. I love the group coaching format because it allows for the coaches to provide more attention to people who need it but still give plenty of attention to people who need less. It's a super-efficient model that gives you access to a coach during your session but you don't end up paying for a coach to watch you warm up, after you've properly learned how. They can just focus their attention on your work sets. Then as things come up (i.e. technique, loading, programming questions, weird pains, etc.) it's great to be able to talk with an expert who can help. Aside from the expert coaching and high-quality equipment, there are two benefits I think are unique to Bay Strength: 1. Outdoor workouts: From a Covid19 perspective this is an extremely low risk environment, which is one reason I started here. I then grew to really enjoy lifting outside, especially during a rainstorm! 2. Inclusive community: I really like training with a group of people who are quite diverse, but all there for a similar purpose. I go to lift first, but it's great to have the social connection and support of other lifters without that "gym bro" vibe.

Jeremy not only shared great form, technique, programming, and injury prevention tips, but also did so with enthusiasm and positivity that made every moment enjoyable. Whether you're new or experienced, Bay Strength is the place to BE.

I started having severe back pain and found that walking with hiking poles helped this. I thought it was due to my spinal curvature (but it turns out it was due to weakened muscles!). I used to be a member of the Berkeley YMCA, but didn't like it as much when I returned after the pandemic, with the women's fitness center gone. So I was mainly walking at the Marina. But last summer I had 2 falls there, both stupid things, tripping on my pole and on the edge of a raised surface. The second fall caused a fracture in my ring finger and I had to get my wedding rings cut off, as they quickly became tourniquets on my swollen finger. So I decided to look for another gym, where I could hold on to the handles on the treadmill. I asked my kids for recommendations. One of them mentioned All in One Fitness in Albany, a few blocks from his house, where he'd seen a sign welcoming people over 40. So I went and checked it out, and this is what I found: To start, it's easy to get to from my West Berkeley home, easy free parking, comfortable and friendly atmosphere, wonderful and friendly trainers, all the equipment one could need in a small space. My trainer, Diane, who is also the manager, is not only excellent as a trainer, but her enthusiasm and support has been really been encouraging. I feel comfortable there with everyone; I don't feel out of place at all. This place, and in particular Diane, my trainer, has truly changed my life! Diane said at the beginning that she wanted to make it fun for me to come to the gym. I thought, "Oh, right!" (in a skeptical, eyeball rolling way). But it happened - it is fun! And I feel so much better! And I can walk without my poles and carry grocery bags! I have personal training twice a week, which has been wonderful for learning new things and keeping up the variety and fun. I have so many things I can do now, not just the treadmill and bicycle, and I can do them on my own between training days. I think it's been 5 months now, and I'm getting stronger and feeling so much better! As I said, it's changed my life! I highly recommend this gym!
