Stephanie was unprofessional and I left feeling quite bad about myself. I wear a long pixie cut, which I had brought in several pictures for. She rushed me through my consultation which was frustrating because she asked me things like "do you want the bottom finger length?" "Do you want it stacked?" And those seem reasonable but the picture had a shaved back and short sides. Her questions made me second guess the cut because I immediately felt like she wasn't confident in my choice and her ability. I don't know the proper verbiage since I'm not a stylist. That's why I brought pictures. I walked in with a grown out pixie, so I assumed she would understand I'm not making a drastic decision. After the consultation she started the cut. She said "pixie cuts are really hard". That's when a shear rep walked in and talked to the owner. I saw many good things about her. He was professional. However, Stephanie butted in their conversation and my hair lost her full attention. She was yelling across the studio talking to him. It was super awkward. At the end, she styled my hair but complained about the curls in my hair. While she was straightening some pieces she said, "ugh, your cow licks are frustrating me, how do you deal with them?" It again, made me feel like she was not confident in her cut. Also, during this, I asked her if they did brow waxing and she said "yes, I can totally do that for you". But she forgot and because she was rushing to get to her next client- who was booked as a walk in a couple minutes before. I booked days in advance. She could have spoken up and said she was going to do a brow wax (which only takes a few minutes, if you're good). But she didn't. Their/her loss of money. I went to pay and she said "this is where you can leave a tip." I left one, only out of respect to the customer service industry, but I don't think a rushed mediocre mom-cut was worth $45. I'm sure the other stylists are fantastic and the salon was cute. But I just didn't feel good about myself or the experience. I just moved to the area and I needed this haircut for interviews and to look and feel my best after dealing with some devastating trauma that happened this year. That's why I picked a high-end salon because I was expecting a certain level of service and attention. She's a sweet girl but I won't be going back to her. I don't want to feel this way again after paying for something that should make you feel good about yourself. read more

I absolutely LOVE this salon! Cindy is the absolute best! She really takes time with you and gets you the PERFECT look!!! I have curly thick hair, and many stylists just can't even handle it, Cindy takes it and makes me look amazing! I'm super finicky over my hair, like crazy picky! I now won't go to anyone else! My husband even goes to her, we drive up from Marysville. Definitely recommend her if you have super curly hair and need a great stylist though even if you don't I'd say give her a try! Being that I'm fairly new to the area, and I've been a loyal customer to my former designer in the Seattle area for over 20 years, I prepared myself for a long search for that "perfect" stylist...well, much to my delight, I feel that the search is over! My cut and color are THE BEST!!!, even rivaling what I thought was perfection before!!! Not only was Tara extremely precise in her foil process - a very tedious task due to my very thick hair, but a total pleasure to work with. Refusal to respect reasonable, standard hair-request of client. For over 20 years, I have had partial-foil/highlights. The hairstylist on my first appt, treated me with utter disdain at Cutting Loose, not even addressing the pricing. My requests were reasonable, as I have longer than usual hair. I also was willing to pay upward of $150 for the session, less than 90 minutes. The experience was demeaning. The stylist's name was Karen. As a professional, I have a public appearance in a couple of days, and this treatment was needed for my work. No other service-oriented business treats clients this poorly. She would have ruined my hair, with her approach, and her demeanor was aloof and downgrading. Bad rating. Warning. *** read more

Tara is EXCELLENT at cutting hair. She WILL fix your bad haircut. I know this first hand, as she has salvaged my hair from two horrible haircuts created by other stylists not at her salon. Recently, Tara managed to fix the horrible decisions and problems so well that I went from despair to delight in 15 minutes. Although parts of my hair still need to majorly grow out (which is no fault of Tara), at least my hair is manageable, presentable and works for me in a way that was not going to be possible without her expertise. I am SO thankful, and so happy to have a local hair stylist who is gifted, professional, and local. It's a plus that Tara is a really nice, lovely lady, who is loves her children, her dog, and her customers. read more

I got a hair cut here and Stephanie was really professional . I asked for a pixie cut which is a difficult cut and it came out perfect!!! She was able to easily traverse my crazy cow licks. She even was to easily do my eye brows! This was a good decisions because it had been a difficult year and I needed the haircut for a job interview. She took her time and I did not feel rushed at all. I got her full attention even though a rep from a company came in. It was a great atmosphere calm and serene with no one yelling across the room! I will come here again and the $45 price is a steal, other places charge double for mediocre service and haircuts! read more

*sigh* I've been holding off reviewing this place, because if I do, you'll all know how fantastic Cindy is, and you'll all flock to see her, and then I won't be able to get an appointment with her when I want one. However, I must be fair, and after three visits over the course of several months, it's time I acknowledged that Cindy is my most favorite hair person of all time. I've had three haircuts, with bleaching/toning services, (and I'm pretty fussy, let me tell you...) all consistently perfect. Cindy takes the time to really perfect what she's doing. She's attentive, kind, knowledgable, listens to you, goes the extra mile ALWAYS, and is just plain phenomenal. I've never been rushed, she's never gotten "testy" when I need a little more of "this or that", and sometimes she's thrown in an extra thing like a protein treatment, just because she knows it'll be good for my hair. She also remembered that I wanted to buy a particular hard-to-find hair styling product, ordered it in, and offered it to me when she next saw me. I didn't ask her to do that, she just got on with it. I get compliments almost every day about how cute my hair looks, and I tell everyone who's responsible. So, do yourself a favor, go see Cindy. I am new to Washington state and have had the same hair stylist for 15 years. You can imagine how nervous I was to try a new salon. While doing research on yelp for salons near Stanwood, I found Cutting Loose, taking a chance I booked an appointment with Tara. When I arrived the salon was clean and had a very homie feel to it. Tara came out and welcomed my family and I. When she asked what I wanted done with my hair I showed her a picture and asked for only an inch to be cut off. I must say after conversing with Tara the cut went by fast! When she was finished she turned me around and it was exactly what I wanted. I am extremely hesitant to try new stylists after I find one that I love and trust. With my long-time stylist having moved away, I spent nearly a year searching for a salon/stylist that I felt I could trust. I live in Seattle, but my parents live here in town. After a year of not having my hair cut, I knew I needed to take the plunge and find a new stylist. One of my family's friends told me about this place. I decided to try cutting loose because of the previous reviews on here. Im new to the area and was looking for a new hairdresser and we all know how scary that can be, so I decided to give this local salon a try because I hate commuting. I'm so glad I did! I made my appointment with Cindy and she was able to give me exactly what I want, even when trying to explain it as "it does a fwoopy thing". I might not know how to describe the haircut I want, but Cindy was able to decipher it and follow through on the style. I went from too thick to deal with hair to fun layered hair that I can actually style now! She also did a great dye job, I felt much more vibrant when I left and I scheduled my next appointment already. :) just goes to show you shouldn't be afraid to try new things. read more
