Being new…read moreto the area 12 months ago and following the birth of my baby, I was in desperate need of finding a hair salon to fix me up. Being a bleached blonde with damaged hair, I'll admit I'm not the easiest client. But quite frankly a visit to the hairdressers used to give me the shakes, nobody could seem to get my hair the shade of ash blonde I desired, and the long hair I craved went up in smoke as it would be snapped away. And then by miracle Toni K became the only salon I knew close to my home. Twelve months later I am a devoted client; making my way to the salon every six weeks to pamper myself with a cut, colour and treatment. My hair is now half way down my back with not a tint of brassy blonde. I've never been one to enjoy the banter of forced conversation between hairdresser and client, but the atmosphere of the salon combined with the genuine chit chat between hairdressers, Toni K himself and clients alike gives the salon an olden day barber shop feel with all the modern trimmings of a modern salon. I simply can't speak more highly of the results I've received. Every time I leave I feel like a million dollars, ecstatic at my cut, colour and the price I've paid for it all. If you decide to book an appointment, Astin is a tried and tested professional. She is respectful about what you want and is able to pull it off with perfection. And if you're a guy, the girls can look after you just as well, but you might want to test out Toni K; I've seen him work his magic on quite a few fellas who are obviously regulars, and all I can is the man certainly deserves a self titled hair salon.

When you consider that some city salons will charge as much as $60 or $70 for the same thing and then sting a surcharge for long hair, this is a winner. All the great amenities of a good salon come with it: current issue fashion mags, coffee or tea offered and a head massage with your wash. Open before business hours so you can pop in at the start of your day or in your lunch hour. My blow dry was perfect - exactly what I asked for AND it lasted nearly a whole week which is unheard of with my hair. I'll be back.

The difference is that here, you dont have to take out a second job to get your hair done every two months. The stylists are fantastic -super friendly without being overly intrusive, and they treat their clients with a sense of importance, like they value their business. I like to book in with Dianne or Donna - Dianne is the owner and Donna is one of the younger girls there, but still does an amazing job. My hair has never looked better. I get colour and highlights, and its the perfect colour for me. My highlights look natural, and they manage to keep my hair long but stil healthy by chopping off just the right amount each visit. Just a heads up guys, don't ever get your hair done at Modern Cut in Airport West (the one near the…read morefood court). From other people I have spoken with, the consensus is the same: AVOID! I showed the hairdresser there a picture of how I wanted my hair TWICE, even coached her through how I wanted it as she was doing it, and she managed to give me a square-cut bob from the 80's instead. When I went back to express my disappointment (after having it fixed elsewhere by someone who clearly knows how to cut hair) and ask if I could have a refund, she tells me that I didn't show her a photo until AFTER she had cut my hair and that I apparently "freaked out" about being charged $65.00 and that was why I was asking for the refund. She even went as far as to say that the haircut I had now was just a result of being blow-waved properly, and that she'd done the majority of the legwork to get it to where it was. Sweetheart, ANYONE can cut hair from a person's head. It takes real skill to style it, which was what was done to my hair by someone way more professional than you. Also, I don't like being called a liar, and I certainly don't like being accused of trying to pull dodgy refunds. Completely unprofessional. The manager could only offer me a free Cut and Blow for the next time, but sadly there won't be a next time. I don't mind paying top dollar for something that is done well, but $65 for something that made me want to put a paper bag over my head is not services rendered. I had a previous regular hairdresser, but see moved out of easy public transport access from where I lived, as well as hiring a not overly competent apprentice. Anyway, back to Xiang Hair. A friend had been coming here for years, so suggested I give it a go (& she always had amazing hair). I made an appointment with Tom and couldn't be happier! I've now been 4-5 times, a colour & blow dry each time, a trim 2 of the visits. The most it's cost me was $186 for colour, trim & blow wave. As well as how happy I am with my hair, the atmosphere of the salon is great, it's big, light & your colour gets done while sitting at a big table in the middle, which I find much more comfortable than stuck at a mirror with a tiny table while waiting for your colour to develop. Added bonuses are that it's within a couple of mins walk from tram stop, parking right out front and subway next door if you're coming straight from work & want something to eat while there :) Oh and you'll always be offered coffee/tea/water which comes with an arnotts 2 biscuit pack - I forgot how much I love scotch fingers & NICE bickies!

worst hair experience in my life. worst color, worst service…read more don't waste your money or time with this salon. they ruined my hair color then tried to charge me $197 to fix it then said they would meet me half way and have a junior fix it for half price, so I originally paid $120 , now wanting me to pay another $100 on top = a total of $220 to fix their mistake. they were rude about it and would not accept responsibility for their mistake nor do their best to fix it, even the salon owner was unhelpful . they made out it was my fault not theirs. I have been getting my hair colored for 15 years. I do not trust them to fix it....and will be paying a trusted salon to fix it. I have been left with orange hair. I feel sorry for the staff that work at this salon under the direction of the owner learning to how to be so unprofessional. TRUST ME, DO NOT GO HERE!!! In saying that . I had a great cut there by the same staff member that ruined the color. and just should've had someone else color it . It was just handled so unprofessionally . .
