I have very naturally dark brown South Asian hair that can be very hard to get naturally looking highlights without looking orange. I've gone to other salons where I've been disappointed with streaky highlights that don't blend with my hair. That is definitely not the case here. Maria at AKC works absolute MAGIC! I went last weekend and Maria spent a few hours highlighting my hair. At the end of a very long appointment, I was stunned at how gorgeous my hair looked. I've gotten compliments all week from coworkers to random strangers. All of the stylists here are so incredibly talented and you can see their work on their individual Instagram pages. I've had several different stylists here at the salon work on my hair and each one has been so kind and attentive to what I was looking for. Red, white, and blue barber pole out front and all. Speaking of old school Joe is the man. Joe and his son are the 2 main haircutters right now. Room to grow in the new shop with a couple extra chairs. The new shop is very nice. Wide open space, very clean, black n white tile floors, multiple TV's and plenty of magazines to keep you occupied while waiting. My hair cuts are ALWAYS on the money. Joe takes his time and does a tight cut. Joe is a master at Clippers, Scissors. and Razors. Using all 3 for my haircuts. Others that cut hair have commented on my haircuts and only positive feedback has come from them. He also has me laughing my ass off most times. Joe doesn't take reservations so I might have to give him a neg review just so I don't make a longer wait for myself. Here's a tip for you to get on Joe's good side. After reading "Very homophobic barber" on another review I think Joe would like to show his support for all. Bring a Rainbow Flag or a Gay Support wrist band or maybe a black pride band. I'm sure he'll display them to show his support for all. In all seriousness, You won't get a better haircut anywhere.

Just walked in and was immediately greeted by the owner Jeff. I saw the cut he just finished on a guy walking out when I came in...wow, nice I thought. I was looking for a face shave and beard clean up no cut today. Jeff welcomed me and said take a seat, it won't be long. I then really enjoyed the skill with which he cut the hair on a very high strung little boy in his chair. Thus was a busy kid, yet he gave him a super nice tight fade and even a shaved hard part. The little guy left with a huge smile, lollipop and looked like a superstar. Jeff clearly has skill, and super kid finesse. The guys here are nice family friendly craftsmen. Thoroughly enjoyed their banter and nice manners. Mason did the shave for me. Nice job, good conversation, good guy, very meticulous in his trimming work. I wish I lived closer as I'd be here weekly. I have a great time every time I go there. All the staff are fun & friendly to be around. I have always had my hair done with Penny but the one time I had Janine she was just as amazing!! Penny is very fun, open to any ideas, trying new things, or just repeating your regular trusted style when that is all you need. She is youthful & refreshing but takes so much pride in her work. I continue to see her because of how particular & passionate she is about what she does. Every time I go to her she takes her time with each client, even if it means going over her booked time. Whether she's running early or slightly behind, it never bothers me in the slightest because I know she is doing her job to the best of her ability. Her attention to detail & continuous strive for perfection is just what I look for in my hair stylist, just as in every aspect of my life. I got married in September of this year & it was 5 hours away, in upstate New York. It was a struggle to find a hairdresser up there & asking someone to travel that far for a 2-3 day event was a lot to ask. Josie, the owner of 67 West, allowed Penny to take time off to come up to do my wedding. She let Penny off early on a Friday & gave her off Saturday & Sunday to come be a part of my big day. Negative experience. Had to go to a different place to fix it. they cut my front to look like an overgrown bang, the layers were a fail once they weren't even really done. Other stylist couldn't understand the result I got from here.
