Parisians are better at everything, and hair is no exception. My experience at The Cut Shop was excellent in every way, and I recommend it even if you speak no French at all. Not only are the stylists exceptionally talented, they are warm and friendly, too.
I'm an American (Boston) who was recently living in The Halles for ten days, and my French consists of a handful of random words, so based on the great French Yelp reviews, I walked into The Cut Shop, and said, "My horses are too much red. Make them to be light again? But not too much lighted things and with short, if you please."
I was taken care of by a stylist who may have been the owner (Caroline, I think?). She was experienced, professional, funny and charming. She took my poorly dyed reddish hair and got rid of the harsh red, changing it to a medium brown and caramel color -- a much more natural look.
Reversing red is one of the harder tasks for a colorist, and my hair already had a lot of color on it, but my stylist used exactly the right shade (an ashy medium brown to counter the red), and what's even more important, the right mix of developer so my scalp never felt irritated.
I have short hair, and she painted lighter caramel brown highlights through my crown, which had the effect of light shining on the surface of my hair -- quite beautiful!
My hair felt silky and smooth even a few days after the process though I'd shampooed it several times. That's incredible, considering the number of chemicals now on my hair.
She cut my hair exactly as I asked her too (her English was better than my French, and we were able to communicate the general idea, but she was great at interpreting body language, too and that helped). The cut is stylish and flattering and I just love it.
The cost was incredibly reasonable, a deal compared to Boston or New York prices, especially considering the level of talent. I walked out feeling a hundred times better than when I walked in, and I was already feeling pretty good.
Wish I could go back to Paris every three months for dinner in Montorgueil and a cut & color appointment at The Cut Shop.
I absolutely recommend this salon. Vive le Cut Shop! read more
