Jim, the barber, and his girl cut mostly men's styles and have some beats bouncing off the radio in the background. Why songs? I don't know, but I usually do that on my own in the car. Jim did not sing, but was very precise in his cut and didn't roll eyeballs when I brought in a picture of my style and length that I wanted. Jim was actually happy. He could visualize it. And he pulled it off! The shop 'Barbers & Song' only has one seat - so they mostly take reservations and ask you to be in at a specific time. Cuts are around $20 for seniors and maybe $23 for adults. Jim asks how you like the cut, shows you a mirror to hold and talks - but not too much. Coiffeur Jim was just the right kind of talk to focus ratio. There is a large screen that the ballgame was on and couches to sit, too. Barber Jim's attention to detail, aim to please, curiosity and about 25 minutes per cut is pretty generous. Review: 5 stars

Adam, the owner, cut my hair and he was both genuine and great with his skills. People came in to drop by to say hi which I love to see and it seems like his family-established place is held in high regard in the community. The place is lined with awesome posters and a heavy punk influence, even hearing some 70s proto-punk when I got it (which I love by the way). The overall vibe II get is small town camaraderie with punk influence and great charm. I definitely found my new barber for years to come, but I want to recommend this place to everyone as well.

Yesterday, our usual had no openings so we went with Luis at 6:30 and 7:15. I don't want Luis to feel too bad about things because he is a newer barber and he did a nice job. Unfortunately, he took me a little late (maybe 6:45) which is fine but he didn't finish my cut until about 8:10. As it was approaching 8pm, I asked if he would have time to do the second appointment as well. He had no idea there was another appointment booked together. He said he's new and they didn't really train him on the system and he didn't see it. Totally understandable and he was very nice. He offered to stay late and do the other appointment but we really didn't have the time to stay until 9pm or later. I asked if instead he could refund me for the second appointment and we'd reschedule in the future. He again couldn't access the system which was fine, but he offered to leave a note and have the manager call me the next day. No problem. Nobody called me this morning so at about 11:30, I called in. After navigating the terrible automated answering system, I reached "somebody". I explained the situation and they seemed to know exactly what I was talking about (which tells me Luis did what he promised). I was told "that's not really how that works. You pay for the time in the chair and it's irrelevant how long the appointment takes, he offered to cut your hair and you decided not to. There's a 2 hour cancellation policy." I asked if I was speaking with the owner or manager, the person refused to identify themselves, told me they were busy with another client and said "if you want I'll refund you this time but in the future you have to cancel 2 hours ahead of time." I asked if there was a policy on an acceptable about of time to wait after the appointment time. They told me "I'm not going back and forth with you, I'm busy. You got your refund what else do you want? If you want to speak more about come down here and talk face to face." I asked who it was I should ask for when I come in and they said the front desk will know. I'm kind of saddened by the whole thing honestly. If there was even an ounce of professionalism or customer service mentality, we would have rescheduled and stayed as clients. I'm not sure how somebody would know at 4:30 that they wouldn't be able to get a haircut until 8:30. I don't know why the guy I talked to chose to be confrontational and act like we did something wrong. I do know, a barbers time is important. They deserve every dollar they get because it's a hard job especially starting out trying to build a clientele. Which is why we pay and tip ahead of time and then slip an extra $5 in cash after the cut as well. I appreciate Luis, and Erika because they have been nothing but nice to us. But a client's time is important too. If a mistake is made by the barber and it results in us not being able to sit for the cut, then it shouldn't be a guilt trip and a veiled threat of violence in order for us to get a refund.
