3 stars--because wow, that price increase!…read more I got a flat on my new bike, and since the tire is bigger than my old one, I figured it might cost more. I used to pay around $24, and I've always come here without thinking twice--my husband introduced me to this place, so it was my go-to spot. Well... this was my last time here. To be clear--everyone is kind and super helpful. They always greet you with a smile, and if you have to wait, there are huge, comfy loveseats to relax in. Honestly, their service is fast. Last time, I walked in, got help immediately, and was done in less than 10 minutes. The tech even showed me exactly what punctured the tube before wrapping up. Less than 15 minutes, and I was out the door. So when he told me $34, I tried to justify it--maybe the tube itself costs more now? But when I got in my car and actually checked my receipt, the tube was only $1 more than my old one. What really cost more? $20 for installation. Wow. That's just too much, I'm sorry. I drove 20 minutes to get here, so with this pricing, I've decided to opt out from coming back. Good luck to you guys!

At the time I was just trying it out and wanted to get some cheap but serviceable used gear until I knew if I was going to stick with it. I was also a little nervous because I was an adult woman getting into a largely-male sport, and I know from experience with other traditionally male hobbies that that's not always the most friendly environment to go into. But these guys put all my worries to rest! (Side note, I did stick with it and now hockey is a huge and wonderful part of my life. The Dallas adult hockey community is fantastic and welcoming, so if you have ever considered it, definitely try it out! And get your starter gear from Play It Again, they're great!) They were very helpful, spent a lot of time with me finding gear my size (which was more difficult than I anticipated, since as a short woman it turns out I ride the line between juniors and seniors sizing), and gave me a lot of really useful advice about fit and style preferences. For under $100, I left with a full set of gear except a helmet, as I had to go elsewhere for that (the brand of new helmets they carry didn't have a size that fit me comfortably, sadly). I returned several times over the next few weeks as I figured out what worked for me and didn't and they were always great about helping me try different options and returning and exchanging gear with no hassle. And the gear selection they have is honestly great! In the last year I've upgraded most pieces to new ones bought elsewhere, but I still use the same shin guards and pants I got from them in the beginning--and the pants are because they are such a great pair that I can't buy a new pair that is better without spending $200. The MSRP for them new is $160....and I got them for I think $30-40! And they were in great condition apart from some messed up zippers--an easy fix! They also do great sharpening here. I get mine sharpened on a regular basis by them, and while you wouldn't think a used sports equipment store would beat out the two major hockey gear stores in the area, they definitely do. Have never had a bad sharpen from these guys, the only better you can get in the area is up in Farmers Branch. They also have a sharpening punch card, which is nice. Definitely recommend these guys!

Having just moved from Denver, I was on the hunt for a new pair of skates. My last pair of Vapors…read morelasted me 8-9 years of on/off seasons mixed with stick and puck sessions and taking my neices skating during the holidays. I have always had hot and cold experiences with shops dating back even before Players Bench and Monkey Sports came around. I brought my old Vapors in to compare with whatever skates I was trying on that night. I ended up buying another pair of Vapors that were on clearance and skated on them a couple times. They definitely felt a lot more aggressive than my last pair. Enter Ryan and Parker. Both of them helped me on different occasions and was easily able to talk hockey as well as babble about our favorite NHL teams. I felt comfortable from the start and there was no nonsense which came highly appreciated. We decided the pair of Supremes I tried on were more in line with my skating style now, so we swapped out. On first skate, I knew these were my skates. I have dealt with the aforementioned shops before and ended up dealing with clowns. The guys here at Pure Hockey are straightforward and explain their methodology and the science behind it all. Most important is that it all makes sense and is consistent. I even saw a mom come in to buy skates for her son and they spoke to her the same way they spoke to me! Kudos to the staff here. Looking forward to replacing more gear in the near future!
