Depending on who you talk to, or read I guess too, this place is either a lot better now, or used to be a lot better before, but everyone seems to have an opinion, and that says something. I have been coming here for the past few years, both as a destination and a place to go after fishing. It is easy to say that I am a fan. I don't see a time that I would go to Hilton Head and not go to the boathouse. I love the outside deck and bar. A fantastic way to enjoy the water and a sunset. I have found the food to be very solid as well; especially the sashimi that they have. The service is usually pretty good, and pretty friendly. The wait can be much at times, but putting your name on the list, getting a cocktail, and playing some cornhole out by the water passes the time nicely.

On the contrary, we experienced true southern hospitality from helpful pleasant staff. These guys obviously don't work on commission and have no reason to pressure anyone - maybe not everyone is used to good service! We were returning some fenders we bought from the larger West Marine in Charleston, but thought better if it, and an employee offered to pump up both of them as a courtesy since the previous store sold them uninflated. When asked, he also made recommendations on products based on his personal experience. The store is an "express," thus it may not have the full inventory of a larger West Marine such as clothes and shoes but they do a great job keeping well stocked on the essentials. We will definitely be back.
