When they sent me a bill for a couple hundred bucks I was a little surprised, but when I called to ask them if they could actually send me the "survey" they were immediately agitated? I recommend Custom Marine Electronics who recently installed radar and a fuel data manager and a full NEMA network on my boat. The level of work was actually beyond my hopes and expectations. The work was clean and everything performs perfectly. Todd stands out in particular. He's the technician who did the work and his knowledge and professionalism are really beyond what you normally encounter. I don't think I'll trust my boat to any other electronics outfit. These guys did not just great work, but exceptionally great work. They turned my Boston Whaler into the boat of my dreams. Wow! It's now much better than it was coming out of the factory. I DO NOT RECOMMEND EVER DOING ANY FORM OF BUSINESS WITH CUSTOM MARINE ELECTRONICS. My experience with Custom Marine Electronics has to be the worst experience with any business I have ever dealt with. I never leave any reviews but I would never want anyone to have to deal with this type of service. I dropped off an inverter at their place in a secure location after hours. Well, their "secure" location was not very secure because they lost my inverter. I even asked multiple times, are you sure my inverter will be safe there, "yes I can assure you it will be fine". So now they have been trying to "figure something out" for the past 3 months. I call regularly and never get anywhere or even a callback. In the meantime of trying to deal with this dead-end road, all of my batteries in the van, which need the inverter to charge have gone bad because they can not charge properly. So now with the lost inverter and bad batteries, we are looking at about $4,000 dollars of damage. I am not sure what to do because now every time I call I just get told that someone will call me back later, which has never happened. I am extremely disappointed in the service of Custom Marine Electronics. I even offered to help pay for a replacement inverter in the beginning. Now I am here over 3 months later and don't know what to do because in all reality my 20-year-old self cannot afford to go and buy a new inverter (and batteries) so then I can use my dream van I build last year. read more

We were looking to hooking up a nmea network prior to our trip to Catalina. The installer Bill Met is immediately and planned to do the project the following week. No one ever showed up, when we called the response was "I forgot". My husband being a very understanding guy said that's fine and Bill said "I'll take care of you for sure next week." The following week nothing and the response was "Couldnt get to you and I'll be there next week." So now we are off to Catalina, no network and super confused as to why we were ghosted. If the job were too small they should have been up front with us and we would have tried a different installer. read more

I received several quotes before choosing an electronics service to refit/upgrade my electronics. I had the opportunity to meet with Rich from CME and after taking with him over the phone I was extremely confident Rich was the reason I chose CME. Rich came down to the boat and was ON TIME (punctuality means a lot to me). After meeting him in person and after he looked at n my boat we went over options. Rich seemed very honest and forthcoming and talked about how he could save me money by upgrading my garmin 5212 to a chirp system, and we went over my older Furuno Radar, simrad auto pilot (AP22), AIS and a few other things. I was sold and had my mind made up for the most part and i wanted ALL simrad and I wanted the EVO 3 with the halo radar. After making the final decision I went all simrad and Rich and his coworker Tim did an outstanding job. Both rich and Tim are Very personable, they know there stuff, are on time, and work hard. First review and it bums me out that its negative.....Ok so i have been holding off on this review and after having had to fix multiple wiring issues since bringing it in to these guys I will just say i am extremely bummed that I spent over 1400 dollars to have simple wiring done. I have had to redo my deck lighting, my anchor light and put in the proper fuses that wont blow out constantly. I'd also like to add they did not label or do the wiring how I requested, I was not telling them how to wire things but i was requesting them to make new labels and have the switches a certain way. When i first approached them about the issues the owner gave me a ton of attitude before i even explained my frustration calmly, bummed me out immensely, but at the end he grudgingly said he'd help. So I essentially asked that they come fix everything at my boatyard as I did not have time to drive my boat back and have them attempt to fix the issues They also somehow managed to break( or disconnect it somehow)my brand new yamaha fuel gauge and cause it to not work, they did come out and attempt to fix the problem after me telling them they had to come to me... so i arrive at my boat and they say " well someone cut the gauge wires" yeah that is because they were working on the old fuel gauge, not the brand new yamaha digital one, keep in mind they also blew the tilt gauge at some point before this and my boat didn't even work. At that point i decided enough was enough and said its fine please just get off my boat... Since then I have had to redo the fuses on 3 different components 1. anchor light, 2. deck lights, 3. my 2 meter radio..... I have yet to attempt to fix my fuel gauge as they kind of got the old one working... so ill be pulling up my bait tank to gain access tomorrow. They also left strands of wire and remnants of their work everywhere they worked. I hear that their main tech is a genius named Bill, which who is the guy I was under the impression would be doing the work, instead a younger man named trevor did the work and when i initially picked it up and did a systems check my anchor light didnt work and Bill promptly fixed it, but come on I just spent 1700 bucks and you guys didnt perform a systems check?? Bill is probably awesome.... however he was not the one who did the work, they left a messy boat, wire and crimps everywhere, gave me a ton of attitude upon trying to calmly resolve the issues. To say I am frustrated and disappointed is a complete understatement...DO NOT LET CME TOUCH YOUR BOAT EVER!!!!!!! LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE PLEASE read more

Wow! This place has it all. I can't believe how nice the staff is and how competent Harold was. I went in with one question regarding my radar system and found myself talking with Harold for over an hour about all the electronics on my boat. If you have unlimited time and don't care about service these guys are for you. If you want someone who cares and is responsive go elsewhere. I called them and asked to schedule them to look at my transducer. They said they needed to look at my sounder on the bench first. I told them that makes no sense but I brought the unit in. Three weeks later they said they need to go to look at the boat and check the transducer. Duh that is what I said. But they still had not even taken ten minutes to put it on the bench and check the unit. I finally gave up. One of the qualified outfits in town resolved the issue promptly. Also if you love walking into a store so cigarette smoky your eyes and lungs hurt it is an added bonus. read more

I had a KVH sat phone antenna that I bought in Canada and hadn't used. I discovered it wasn't working on my voyage from Canada to San Diego. Bill came to meet me in San Diego on my arrival and discovered the antenna was defective. He immediately contacted KVH and arranged for an exchange overnight. They were great, but KVH stuck me with the freight both ways. Wouldn't recommend KVH, but CEM was very helpful. read more

Custom Marine Electronics has been very helpful to us since 2015 when we purchased our sailboat. Over the years we have been using CME to purchase new electronic equipment, and Harold the owner has helped us out immensely with his wealth of knowledge pertaining to our electronics, and battery & solar charging system, and many other aspects to keeping a boat running proficiently. Harold has always worked hard with his service to detail, his quality of installations, and his professionalism. CME staff have also been wonderful helping us out when Harold was on another job and we needed help right away. I found CME went above and beyond helping us with everything they could bring us in pertaining to our electronics, and other things we were needing they steered us in the right direction, or called the other companies for us finding us the parts. We are now in Mexico with our sailboat, and have flown back to San Diego to get parts for our boat, and Custom Marine Electronics is the first stop we made.
