If you are looking for budget friendly place this is the place for you. If you are looking for transparency you will not get this at this kennel. They do not let you see where your fur-baby stays with the excuse of it is due to liability issues. This is could be resolved with cameras in the kennel areas and maybe even some pictures of the kennels on the website. This just makes me wonder what they are hiding. They told me my French Bulldog who is still a puppy did not walk well on a leash and had to pull her around. She has never been on a traditional collar and leash she is always on a harness and is not accustomed to being pulled around with a noose. *Really they dragged her because she was being stubborn like most French Bulldogs are.* I thought kennels were suppose to be patient and give grace to a young dog not being accustomed having a noose attached to her neck and expected to walk nicely. After all that they really did not appear to care I expressed concerns of her being heat exhausted. It was along the lines oh oops we will do better next time. No one told me she was having issues. When I picked her up she was not her normal self. She was overheated and was having trouble breathing. Oh but they will do better next time! read more

I've been boarding my 2 dogs at this facility for 2 years now and I would not recommend. Staff is rude and incompetent. Multiple times they have forgotten to give us back our dogs' stuff (toys, meds, etc) and have not been apologetic any of the times we have had to make the 45 minute drive back to them to retrieve. They are ok with inconveniencing us and don't have the decency to apologize or acknowledge their part in forgetting. They also act like we're bothering them if we call to check on them, as if we are not entitled to receive an update. Also, drop offs and pick ups tend to be chaotic each time as there is always kids running around and/or other unleashed animals. Their baths leave my dogs itchy and shedding worse than they were before dropping off so I can tell they do not use quality products and/or only give them a lazy brushing. read more

I have my dog here as a long term board due to a housing crisis situation, and I couldn't be happier. The management and staff are so friendly, and the manager is so understanding of my situation. The staff plays with her since she is a one on one dog who can't be in a social pack due to fear aggression, plus they let me come see her and spend quality time with her every week! Payments are flexible and this staff really will make you feel like a part of the family! My dog is actually very happy here while I work hard to get us a new home! Bridgett is by far the BEST GROOMER IN MURFREESBORO!! I've lived here over 20 years and have experienced many bad situations with my babies. Too many groomers don't listen to what you want, or will shave your pet claiming your dog is "too matted" which happened so many times...I knew that wasn't the case at all; it was rushing through or just laziness. Other times, I'd find my babies would be cut too close to the skin and be bloody which is just not acceptable. So when I found Bridgett, and I saw how calm my baby reacted to her touch, that spoke volumes to me. When I drop off Harvey for his 6 week grooming, he goes in looking forward to see Bridgett. The staff was very friendly, that is the reason I chose to use Custom Kare Kennels of Murfreesboro. I was not allowed in the back to see where my dog would be boarded. This was over the Labor Day holiday weekend, a staff member told me they were boarding 100 dogs that weekend. I was told the dog would have access inside and outside on a run, 24 hours a day. My dog has used a doggie door her entire seven years of life, so using a doggie door shouldn't be an issue. My dog was to be boarded for 12 days, that was cut short to five days. My daughter went to pick up the dog on the fifth day, they did not want to release her, even though I told them it was possible my daughter would come for her, they said they hadn't had time to give the dog a bath or wash her bedding. my daughter persisted and they released the dog to her. The problem the dog was wet from laying on her bedding, that was soaked in urine, she has never urinated in my house or wetted her bed in seven years, remember a doggie door. I want someone to find out what is going on at Customer Kare Kennel's, because taking proper care of peoples pets is not the priority. read more

I had 2 very different experiences here. We were going out of town for the weekend and we called to see what time they would open Saturday. The lady that we spoke with said 7am. We showed up at around 6:45am. The door said 7:30am. We thought maybe they had not updated the info on the door so we didnt think anything of it. A lady showed up with her son (she worked there) and said she would be with us soon. Walked in and several of us that all thought they opened at 7 waited until 7:30. Would have been nice for her to clarify that it would be 7:30 before she would Open. Opened at 7:30 and we got the dog registered. The lady wasnt the best at greeting us or making us feel welcomed. When we picked dogs up, it was an older lady and a teenage kid-both of them greeted us very nicely and were very nice to us. read more

To my 'Boro friends and fellow dog lovers: I've had both dogs boarded with Custom Kare Kennels for the last 5 days. When I arrived to pick them up, I was told that my dogs fur had turned green on a significant amount of her fur, a long strip of fur going from her chest all the way to the bottom of her mouth. They had no explanation as to how this happened. But that it had been that way for the last 3 days. Once she was brought up front, it took me 30 seconds to see that she was suffering, and that the skin underneath this new mysterious green fur was significantly irritated. I called the vet office from their lobby and took her directly to an appointment. The vet was confused as to what it was, but their best guess was that she was exposed to some sort of dye and had a bad reaction. I personally feel that the kennel, having admitted they saw this strange coloring on a yellow dog was completely negligent in caring for her from that moment on. She did not arrive with green fur. A large specific area of green fur that arises under your care should have not been ignored. Especially when we had an emergency contact on file, that in fact actually contacted the kennel to check up on them and was told they were fine. After 3 days of basically sitting there being un treated by Custom Kare Kennels with whatever the hell happened to her while under their care has resulted in her skin looking as you see below in the pictures. She is eating and drinking, but in a lot of discomfort. We have made Custom Kare Kennels aware of this situation. And sadly, they didn't care. They re-directed fault, provided idiotic excuses to their management of our dog while under their care and were not sympathetic at all. I went back and asked to see where my dog slept to try and piece together how this could have happened, and they refused to show me. I spoke to the manager, Tina and requested the owners contact us. I am sharing this story so that others can properly do some research before ever considering entrusting their family pet with Custom Kare Kennels. read more

I found custom kare kennel when I first moved to Murfreesboro in September 2018, through the clippers ad magazine. $10 off for a full groom. So I thought I'd try it out. And ever since then I've been really impressed with how they groom my dog! Especially for the price. I have seen the older reviews online, so it made me kind of hesitant to board them for 7 days last week, but since they all seem really nice and they do a good job grooming, I gave them a shot. And I wasn't let down! They gave my dogs medications as directed, and you can call and check up on your pups anytime you want! You can also have daily playtime in a big yard for them which is nice. I picked both my dogs up freshly bathed and ready to go. The only thing I wish they would do is be involved in posting pictures on social media more often! read more

I needed to board my dog for two nights last weekend so I tried Custom Kare Kennel for the first time. It was easy to drop her off and pick her up. Pretty reasonable price per day. Everyone who worked there was nice and polite. I don't know why they limited pick up time as there was a very long line to pick up and about 20 minutes wait because everyone was coming at the same time. My dog was not injured in any way, although I overheard the attendant on the phone talking to someone about a cut one their dog had received in the dog run (or something.) I'm not sure how to avoid that 100% and they seemed really up front about it. They had cleaned, stopped it bleeding and bandaged it and had notified that they would take to the doctor if it didn't get better. I'd rather know. I've taken my dog to places before and come back with minor injuries that were undisclosed. She was jumpy but after a couple days it went away. So, normal, IMO. In the end, I will definitely use this kennel in the future. read more

CKK has been a life saver! They provide top of the line grooming service and their pet boarding is excellent. Apparently they have had a management change because I have never gotten anything but superb customer service from the friendliest staff imaginable. They always care for my fur babies like they would their own and my dogs come home looking and smelling exquisite. The receptionist is extremely courteous and professional, and the groomers take pride in their craft. Plus the price is a fraction of any other kennel in the area. I had a death in the family and left my dog Cassie there. Cassie is very friendly and Loves everyone, even the vet. I picked up a dog that had lost 8.8 pounds. Her skin was very red. Vet said one cause may have been from laying on cold concrete, one cannot say . She obviously did not eat well. That's a horrible weight loss. I'm surprised because the first time I left her there she was OK. "maybe" THIS time was due to the Holiday, "maybe" they were over booked and under staffed? Never the less, my dog suffered. We were so pleased with the staff at CKK! We evacuated from FL before Irma hit and didn't know what we were going to do with our 4 dogs. No hotel allows that many dogs in one room and someone would have had to stay in the room the entire time... we found CKK online and were pleased with their prices so we gave them a call. They were very understanding of our situation and allowed us to drop off our dogs after hours when we arrived from FL. They even recommended a walk-in vet that would give 2 of our pups their updated shots (they were scheduled for shots the week we evacuated ). While our dogs were in their care, the staff did everything they could to maintain the health and safety of our fur-babies. One of our pups became aggressive due to his anxiety and instead of calling us and telling us we had to come pick him up, they called us to see how they could help him calm down. We were extremely pleased with CKK and wish we lived closer so that we could utilize their services more often. read more

I will NEVER EVER take my dog back. I had been taking my Shitzu there for over 1 year whenever I needed boarding. So far I was ok until 7/6/19 when I picked my dog up. 1st- Custom Kennel promised a bath if my dog stayed 1 week, I was perfectly fine and appreciative of that. I called the Kennel to see if my dog was ready and they said she was just taken back by a groomer, this was around 12 noon. I picked my dog up around 2:30pm and when I held her she had dry feces on her butt and feces stuck in her button area. There was NO way a bath was given because feces wouldn't be that dry within a 2 hour period. The groomer took the dog to the back and cleaned her up BUT this makes me believe it was on her for quite some time. My dog is my baby and i am super pissed. The front desk person was rude and the place was a mess with cut dog hair everywhere. I noticed different workers from when I started over 1 year ago. Anywho, I AM DONE!!!! read more

After great recommendations, I chose to leave my 3 month pit puppy here for 5 days. When I picked her up, she had not been bathed, her fur was matted where she had been laying in urine, and the stuffed animal I left with her was returned to me so urine soaked, I could have wrung it out. Also, she had a check up right before we left her here; she was just fine. When I picked her up, she had ear mites! I spoke with management who offered me no explanation for the horrible care she received, and refuse to do anything to make this situation right. If you love your pets, don't leave them here!! There is a lot I could complain about, our dogs coming home smelling like urine, the unprofessionalism, and the inconvenient hours. But what really made me decide to never bring my pets back here and to leave this review is the fact that my dog had a seizure while he was being boarded here and they didn't even call to tell me, I called multiple times while I was out of town to check on them and no one answered. When I came to pick up my dogs they causally said "oh did anyone tell you he had a seizure?" and my dog does have seizure so that's not their fault, but the fact that they didn't even contact me to tell me is unacceptable. Especially since I came in the day prior not realizing they were closed for Memorial Day (it says it on the door) and understandably they wouldn't let me pick my dogs up even tho I was sitting inside for 10 mins before anyone came up front(the door was supposed to be locked) nor did they tell me that day about what had happened. read more

Just moved here from out of state and was told this place was great. I booked my appointment 2 months in advance, never received a confirmation phone call. I had to call them. 1st red flag. Brought my dogs in to get groomed. I told the staff we just moved here and this is their first visit. 5 hours later I called to see how they were doing. Second red flag. I was told "oh yah they are ready i was just going to call you" not convinced. She then proceeds to tell me they are charging me a misbehavior fee because my dog was moving too much. 3rd red flag. I have never heard of this nor have I ever been charged more because my dog moved too much during his appt. Mind you this is his first time at your facility and obviously would have some anxiety. I would not recommend this place and will not be going back. As a groomer it is your job to be patient with dogs especially when its their first visit and they don't know you. Custom Kare Kennel has 100% new staff. The people that we have heard bad stories about haven't worked here in quite some time now. The principles and behavior of previous staff members is not accepted and would result in immediate termination. We can at anytime let you tour and see the setup. Tammy is no longer the manager- Mary Ann Is the managers name. NOONE physically harms the animals. We feed at 9 am and 4pm 7 days a week. Or per the owners special instructions. We keep fresh water down at all times. When the kennel attendants feed they give fresh water if it is needed. We do not use the overflow areas and have not in over two years (previous manager to Mary Ann discontinued that practice). AND UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE DO WE MISTREAT ANY ANIMAL UNDER OUR CARE. Every staff member loves their job, is happy to show up here every morning and genuinely loves dogs and the opportunity to be able to work with dogs (and kitty cats). We have made strides and great leaps and bounds to fight this bad reputation that precedes the current staff. We want to make this place shine and be what we dream it can be. We urge anyone that has read negative reviews about us from the past to give Custom Kare Kennel a look with fresh eyes. read more

Will never bring my dog here again. I needed to board my dog at the last minute and this place was available. When I dropped him off everything was great. The place looked dirty but the employees were very nice. When I picked him up we had a lot of issues. I walked in and no one was at the desk. I had to call their phone to find someone. My dog was filthy and all of his bedding smelled horrible. We gave them 6 cans of food the exact amount for the time he was there. For some reason they gave us 2 back which means they fed him other food or didn't feed him at all. We brought him home and for the next 2 days he wouldn't eat and had dhiarrea. I have boarded my dog here twice. The first time, I thought the place was amazing and whatnot, but when I came back to pick her up, she was acting very, very weird. I thought maybe she just missed me. When I came picked her up, she tucked her tail and started whining until we got out of there. When I came back the second time, when the lady came around to put the leash on her, she tucked her tail, hid behind me and growled. This is very, very strange for my sweet and loving puppy. Now, if I go for a ride with her, and we go near there, she whines and tries to hide. I feel like something is going on there, and I would not suggest this place ever. The only reason for 1 star is because the site does not allow none! Pets were fine prior to boarding (health exam the day before by my vet). At pickup, the place smelled like it had not been cleaned all day. Pets were dirty(fecal material on coat) and had bloody paws. Paws had raw abrasions and a staff infection. The manager gave excuses and was rude. Attempts to contact the owner through the BBB were not successful. The agent listed with the state has not been helpful. He has not followed through with his offer of resolution. I do not recommend boarding pets at this business. read more

He was patient and helpful, providing useful advice with a very difficult situation. We recently took our 2 year old dog there for a grooming. Lobby was overwhelmingly smelly and seemed filthy. The staff was very friendly and the prices were hard to beat. When I picked my dog up he appeared clean and had on lots of "perfume." It appeared they had clipped his nails, however they were more rough and scratchy than before. Last week we needed to leave town for 5 days. Other than an "ok" grooming, I had no other reason to beware of this place. Our trip was cut short and our dog ended up staying for just two nights and how glad we are for that. I called that morning to explain we would pick him up earlier than planned and if they had time to give a quick wash. The staffer on the phone was very friendly and didn't mind at all. When we picked up our dog, he seemed very out of it. When asked for his play toy back she said it had been destroyed. Our dog has been chewing on this toy for over a year now. He's a high energy dog and aways excited to return home, jumping on furniture and playing with toys, barking, etc. He was a zombie. All he would do was sleep. I would pick him up and his eyes would roll back into his head and he'd seemingly pass out. This lasted all night and he was low energy in the morning as well. Also, he would wake up ever now and again gnawing and licking his back paws, which is very rare. In between his paw pads appeared to be extremely red and irritated. I soaked them in cool water to get him to leave them alone and go back to sleep. After reading all of the other reviews I decided to post this one. Avoid this place. It's obviously unclean and it is my opinion based on other reviews with similar experiences, they may sedate pets to keep them asleep avoiding proper caring of them and/or for other reasons. I had high hopes for this place but sadly they came up short. I have boarded my dog off and on for a few years and we loved our kennel in Virginia, never had any problems before. So after moving to TN we had to find a new kennel. I liked the idea of the kennel runs here and that I could purchase separate play times for our dog who loves affection and attention. We would purchase group playtime for her at the previous kennel. We dropped her off on a Thursday and were going to pick her up on Tuesday but after bad weather we left our mini vacation early. I called ahead to see if I could pick her up early and pay for a bath since she would not qualify for a free one now. I was told it was not a problem and she would still be bathed. I gave them a specific time of pickup and still they assured me it was not a problem. We drove 8 hours and our first stop was to pick up our dog. When they brought her out she was very happy to see us so we just put her in the car and drove away. We didn't get out of the parking lot before I noticed that everything we sent to the kennel including the dog smelled like urine. I turned around to check on the dog and noticed she had dry feces all over her chest. We called the kennel back from the car on the drive home We were told that she had her bath but they didn't know what time we were picking her up and did it early so she must have gotten dirty in her kennel after the bath! I was furious! They offered for us to bring her back and they would bathe her again but after an 8 hour drive we were not taking her back so we ended up bathing her at home. She has been overly attached to us since we brought her home. I feel so bad. We rescued this dog for her to have a better life and I just probably made her feel like she was back at the shelter. Definitely going to try Rover next time we need pet care. read more
