We signed a contract with Sure Fix on April 5th for painting, carpentry, tile work, plumbing and…read moreelectric work totaling over $25,000 to remodel the house we had just moved into. Sure Fix's performance was decidedly mixed, and we would not hire them again. 1) 5-6 WEEKS LONGER THAN ESTIMATED Before selecting Sure Fix, Henry the owner told us the project would take TWO TO THREE weeks. In reality, they took EIGHT WEEKS, or 3-4 times longer than the estimate. 2) LATENESS NOT DUE TO ADDITIONAL WORK We added and subtracted work items after the work began, and the net cost of additional work only totaled about 20% more than the original price--a workload justifying only a few days of extra labor, and not a 5-6 week overrun. 3) ON MANY DAYS, DID NO WORK ON OUR PROJECT There were many days when only 1 or 2 workmen worked for just a few hours, and at least 10 entire days when no workmen came at all. This was a matter of health for me, as I have asthma and was adversely affected by the dust that the prolonged work period exposed me to. 4) THEY JUGGLE MANY JOBS AT THE SAME TIME Tony, the project manager, justified his periodic abandonment of our project by writing: "We have several jobs going on and we have to be fair to everyone." We felt, however, that being fair to us would mean completing our project, without gaps of inactivity, in 2-3 weeks as promised--but that did not happen. Instead, Tony wrote on a day when no work happened: "I have other jobs to do." 5) MADE MAJOR MISTAKES COSTING US TIME AND/OR MONEY Among other mistakes, a whole week was lost when Sure Fix erred by ordering a custom countertop made of the wrong material. In the end, Henry charged us an extra $1,500 for the substitute higher-grade material we ultimately selected, but we would have been happy with our previous choice for $1,500 less. 6) STOPPED COMMUNICATING AFTER LAST PAYMENT, LEAVING WORK UNDONE After we made final payment, we could see that final touch-ups had been done with the wrong paint, and those touch-ups now required touching-up themselves. I texted Tony several times and left a voice mail for Henry to schedule the fixes still due, but neither of them bothered to answer me. SUMMARY Their workmen were friendly and the work was generally good. But on balance, we would certainly not hire Sure Fix again. Photos of some of the work that Sure Fix left uncorrected are attached.

As soon as the owner left the house I received an expected bill and asking for half payment immediately. The next day the secretary called and was extremely rude and stated that Sure Fix would not be doing any work for me with no explanation. Do not hesitate to hire Gerald/Vintage Home Renovations. I been hiring Gerald for projects small…read moreand large for almost twenty years. He remodeled my kitchen, built a deck, replaced ancient pipes, to name just three of the dozen or so projects I have hired him for. He is the best. Let me give some details: * He knows and understands old houses. If you your home is "vintage", you know that along with charm comes all sorts of problems with old or outdated (or sometimes just plain weird) plumbing, electric, etc. Gerald knows how to work with or adapt these older items. * He is a one-stop shop. He does plumbing, electric, carpentry, masonry and so on. * He is a problem solver. On more than one occasion, I have hired a different contractor for a job, only to discover that they either refused the job, or failed to complete it once problems arose (which happens when you start poking at old house). In ever case, Gerald came to the rescue. * He's trustworthy. This past summer I gave Gerald the keys to my house and left for three weeks vacation. He completed all of the work while I was away. * His prices are beyond reasonable. * He stands by his work...and is always willing to make things right. So...don't hesitate...Gerald is your guy! My husband texted him a few times, to make sure he had the correct email address. When that didn't work, I texted him and then finally found an email for him and sent a sternly worded email to him. Finally I was able to get an answer back, and after a little bit longer had gotten the proposal. We had to send it to our landlords for approval, and once we had that we sent it back to John to get things moving. That was sometime around July I believe. I did understand that he was working on other projects, and tried to respect that. So I didn't overload him with messages or emails. But when sometime went by, and we hadn't heard anything. I sent I believe two more emails to him asking when we can finally get our stuff done as we did everything he had asked. And we have heard nothing from him, it is 11-20-25 today. I think I sent the last email in beginning of Oct. And nothing, nothing at all. He apparently I have figured decided not to help us, and just forgot to let us know. All I can figure is our project was too small, not as exciting I am sure as other projects he might get. If you need something done quick, and not too complicated don't bother with him. He doesn't communicate, and he doesn't bother to tell you when he has decided not to handle your project taking months out of your time in which you could have been reaching out to someone else to help you.

Well, I've waited a long time to finally write this review for Zuchowski Contracting. Some because…read morehe was a friend of the family, but mostly because I was waiting and hoping he would finally fix what has broken or never been done. Since that hasn't happened in at least 6 months since the renovation was completed, and after countless attempts to get them here, I'm going to give my honest review. My renovation, which started 4 months late, was an absolute nightmare. From the demolition team that stole my appliances off my lawn and knocked down the wrong wall, to the plumbers who continually screwed up, didn't show up or failed inspections it was hell. I know renovations can be difficult, especially when you are living in the home while the work is being done, but the workers that my contractor used were horrible. The plumbers dumped raw sewage in my backyard, constantly made mistakes that cost us time, caused failed inspections, and eventually had to be redone. There's paint peeling off my walls in the bathrooms and the kitchen, door saddles that are still not glued down, sink hardware that was put in crooked and is now broken, and plumbing that still isn't done. Ray Zuchowski was constantly canceling or not showing up to do electrical work and kept reminding us we were a "budget job." On a positive note, his helpers Pete and Victor were great! They went above and beyond us, ALWAYS showed up, and got the job done. If it weren't for them, I would have totally lost my mind! Now, Ray is going to say that he made everything right by replacing the appliances that were stolen, to countlessly apologizing for the plumbers, it does not negate the depression and anxiety that the renovation caused us. I am truly sorry I had to write this review, but I don't want anyone else to go through what we went through.
