I feel that I'm very skilled and in 1998 became one of the first individuals to learn and teach behavioral based interviewing, which still isn't used by most companies. The success rate for this style of interviewing is only 55%, not a great success rate. Yesterday, I took an online e learning course on Motivation Based Interviewing, this is the panacea of what interviewing should be, I was taken aback by the brilliance of the process, it's simplicity and how quickly you can learn it, it took me 4.5 hours. The beauty of this approach is that it zero's in on what drives high performers, attitude, passion and skills. What your able to understand about the interviewee, is do, they have a predominantly, I can, or I can't attitude. Your also able to gauge their passion for the work they do and then assess their skills which are important, but not critical, because they can be taught, this is where most employers fail to see the potential that people have. The interview is then completed by asking five career fit questions. the entire process will take about an hour, which for me is nothing in terms of time, especially when you consider the negative impact of hiring the wrong person.
