If you didn't know this was a restaurant you'd never find it. But it is so worth finding. From…read morethe street you walk past all the lit windows and climb several steps to a door that I can't recall if it has so much as a brass plaque on it. But you swing open that door and... Well, not magic. Just dark bricks and a near-empty bar to the left. So you go downstairs. And that is where the magic happens. That is where the tables are full, and, European style, you may end up sharing your table with complete strangers. The brick ceilings are low and arched, darkened with age and I imagine the soot of years of candles. It actually looks a bit like the interior of a brick pizza oven, come to think of it. The atmosphere was cozy and the place gave off a good feeling, the kind of place you want to go back to. I was gonna get the pike fish, the menu description intrigued me. (Thank goodness for Google translate.) But I always ask the servers what's amazing, and he said hands down the burger. I had no idea I wanted a burger. But it was the perfect meal for me at that moment. Sometimes things just click. It was dense. It was meaty. It was thick and a little bit smoky. I had trouble getting it into my mouth, and I went through about 4 napkins because it was so juicy. Even the fries were the perfect crunch. Hubs and his work colleague each went for steak. I tried hubs' (that's what I do, and it's part of the marriage contract, right?), and it was the perfect doneness for me, medium rare, almost but not quite bloody. Be advised, though, hubs had ordered his "rosa", which is to say medium and pink. They evidently consistently undercook their steaks, because I was a little sad for hubs' colleague, who ordered his well-done, and that's just wrong (at least he didn't top it with ketchup). But it came out a happy pink, which was his plan, so he's figured out what to say to the chefs to get what he wants. Hubs' colleague told us before we ordered that the creme brulée was amazing here so we each got one. Delicious! And accompanied by fruit, ice cream, and a decorative garnish of chocolate, mango, and raspberry syrups. I love recs because I never would have found this place, or that meal, or that dessert without help. And I would go there again in a heartbeat.

If you enter the building you step into an entrance area first. I think lately there was a bar or vinotheque opened in that area. The restaurant is down in a cosy vaulted cellar. Wine and meals are very good. Booking a table in advance is a good idea but its worth going there and try and find out if there are some seats left. Don't be astonished if you are offered to join foreign people's table sharing a table with other guests. You may agree to do so because this is common in this part of Germany. One star minus because if there are a lots of guests it may be a bit loud and hard to talk to each other.

This little gem sits on a corner in an older store front. Cant miss it! even though the smell was so good outside that I almost got hit by a car following my nose instead of looking. Don't judge me! Im a food addict! Decor: 5/5 - place is great. has a real good feel to it. It has bricks inside that have little bricks missing and instead has legos and lego designs shoved in them. I have to give it to them its unique. Big tables to share some great food and conversation with your friends or you could sit at the smaller more personal tables when you want to bring a date for probably one of the best tasting burgers in Kaiserslautern. Service: 5/5 - Once again. Service is impeccable. The guy taking the orders at the cash register explained the menu items and discussed some of the local beers to try. There is a very friendly atmosphere about this place and I love it. Food: 5/5 - Ok I don't know what the heck is going on back home but I have had the two best burgers of my entire existence while out of the country. This burger was massive! I had the Bacon and Egg Burger with extra Bacon and cheese (go figure, Rip to my arteries ) enough said. The fries were hot and fresh.. really HOT and fresh as well as my burger! one bite into this medium rare goodness and already know that I would be back later for a couple of more! Major props to the grill guy! man was back there knocking down orders like Mike Tyson. You must try this place! I kid you not! Oh by the way they have a burger called the "champ". try it if you dare 200g of beef . One of the guys showed me a photo of it. its the size of a 1 year old lol.

Arriving from Berlin, I was visiting Mannheim for the first time in years - and I was looking for a…read moregood burger. Well, I didn't find it here, I'm afraid. My first choice - a "protein, low carb" alternative to the classic burger - proved rather unpalatable: A poor excuse of a patty squeezed in between loads of iceberg lettuce, a bit of avocado and onion, some sauce. The patty - I'm sorry - tasted revoltingly of cheap beef. And wasn't properly prepared (i. e. fried at too low a temperature). I returned the offending dish - and was treated very professionally: My complaints were heard, no excuses were made, I was offered a different burger. Chicken this time. The second try - which turned out not be chicken, but more of a traditional cheeseburger with avocado - was better, alas, couldn't stand up to most burgers I had in my life. (A few, ahem.) Again, the lacklustre patty wasn't doing the trick. The accompanying sweet potato fries were Ok. As I mentioned before, the service was fine and friendly. The whole place is a self-service affair with a nice design. However, not accepting any credit cards is - in these days - an absolute no-go. I shall not return.

Any where on the East Coast, London, or Paris I grab a bacon burger at Five Guys! Been traveling through Germany for five years now and I am excited that the Frankfurt and Mannheim area now have a great burger option! The patties decently seasoned no crazy German all spice that you might find at the local Imbiss. The buns are toasted and buttered. The lettuce onions and tomatoes are fresh and tasty. The house sauce is not overwhelming. A great tasting burger and saves me from flying to CDG or LHR for a burger.
