This restaurant, located in Stoney Middleton, is now called Curry Cottage. I visited the restaurant…read morelast summer together with my wife, my brother, and his wife. We really enjoyed the meal, the service, and the surroundings. The food, without any degree of hyperbole, I described, then and now, as THE BEST INDIAN MEAL I HAVE EVER HAD! The waiter was also a diamond. Very helpful, attentive (but not too much - y'know) & naturally friendly. You can take your own alcohol, so that makes for a very affordable night out, especially since the food was very reasonably priced, with good-sized portions. I look forward to going there again, next time I am in England.

Absolutley amazing flavours…read more There was two of us, we ordered a pint of King fisher and a bottle of Chablis for my colleague on arrival. The starters were excellent vegtable pokara and spring rolls both perfect. Mains was two dishes - 'Tawa Machi' fish fillets in subtly spiced with herbs in a tomato based sauce and actually cooked in the tawa- a type of flat iron platter- amazing. My Colleague went vegetarian with chick pea/red kidney bean and carrot in a medium spiced sauce served with rice. We also had 2 tandoori roti (favourite bread) and a lovely mix salad. The meal was amazing, this place was a little romantic for two hetro guys like us, but the food more than made up for it. With 2 cofees the total came to £58.50. The Restaurant itself has a cave inside as it is at the bottom of solid rock type of cliff. I'm not certain but the 'lovers leap' may have been someone who had jumped off the top!!! as if anyone is worth jumping off a cliff for!! but you can book a table in the cave area also. Will defintely be going here again real soon, may be take the ex mother in law to the top of that cliff, you can see where this is going!!! well there's no point in buying her a meal first, wait till after it will be cheaper!

After a week of pub grub and clichéd British food, it was time for some curry. Yelp to the rescue!…read more We found Akbars just a few blocks from the train station, so it made a good stop after the National Railway Museum. I thought the dishes were fine quality, tasty and not too spicy. Good prices and good portions, suitable for sharing. Loved the atmosphere, with low lighting from chandeliers with red highlights and lounge music. It seemed more modern and hip than a standard Indian joint. The crowd was a mix of small groups of businessmen and tourists, with a few families like us.

Thanks, Adam! Wandering the streets after sightseeing, I let Yelp lead me to a top rated…read morerestaurant. I was not even slightly disappointed because Akbar's is an excellent curry house. Even though I walked in at 5:15, they were happy to see me and brought me to a table near the window. The menu was a bit strange - a solidly laminated sheet - but it had all the usual curries that I've come to expect in this country. And so instead of going with the usual, I let my eye choose. I started with the Liver Tikka. I've never had this before and I would recommend it. Not at all "livery", three good sized pieces arrived on a sizzling plate with some sauteed onions and a bowl of mint sauce. Th mint was a big help because this was seriously hot. Not spicy hot, temperature hot. Wow! For mains, the "handi" was listed as 'just like we have it at home' on the menu so I thought I'd give that a try. I chose lamb instead of chicken. It took about ten minutes (the waiter warned me it would be 15) and I also opted for two chapati to go with it. Again, very hot coming from the kitchen and it had a whole lot of flavor and spice, but it wasn't "hot" spicy just really tasty. Lots of small pieces of lamb in a sauce that is beyond description. Let's just say that it was excellent and the chapati was perfect for scooping. No dessert, but the cold bottle of Kingfisher was perfect (first time in a bottle, it's usually draft). A great meal!

Akbars - Family sized garlic naan. Enough for the family alright, or the family could use these bad boys for curtains.
