I'm not a currywurst expert, having only tried it twice before at the Herman ze German chain in London, but after a day of sightseeing in Berlin you can't blame a tourist for wanting to take in some of the local cuisine.
There are currywurst stalls dotted all along Berlin. It's difficult to tell as a tourist which is good and which is not but I always assume food stalls near attractions and landmarks to be a bit overpriced and normally mediocre. Curry 7 is close enough to one end of the East Side Gallery (albeit across the river Spree closer to Schlesisches Tor station) without being a Berlin Wall designated currywurst stand. In fact, it's actually a full restaurant with a small amount of seating available!
The sausage was grilled and soft on the inside, smothered in the standard ketchup and curry powder mix. The chips that were accompanying were crisp, hot and tasty - definitely would please anyone from the UK. The cook (possibly owner) was friendly, and cheerful. And we paid slightly less because we returned our cola bottles after we finished eating! No complaints but the temperature randomly dropped while we ate, too bad indoor seating was very limited (2 seats). read more
