Having tried several bakeries in The Netherlands I've come to the conclusion that it's extremely rare to find good cupcakes. They are either stale or the icing isn't right or just plain ol' BLAH! But that wasn't the case at VAN NESS I've been trying to eat their cupcakes for a while now. They get sold out rather quickly so one has to go sometime before 3-4pm if you want to have all the flavors. So we walked into this tiny store full of excitement and tried four different flavors of cupcakes (chocolate lava, red velvet, pistachio and chocolate vanilla) and boy o' boy was I pleasantly surprised, they were EPICALLY delicious. They were moist and full of flavor and honestly the best I've had in this country for sure! I totally understand why they are sold out before the store closes and I was so impressed to taste every flavor and their icing was divine. So yes go there, go there tomorrow! I know my cupcakes and have been to countless shops in the US and Europe and Vanessa's are some of the best. I love them so much I actually wrote about them on my blog! The shop is super cute and simple. Simplicity is under-rated in my opinion. You already have all the options just sitting on the counter staring at you and the prices are overhead. Another reason that I love the cupcake stands-on the counter-behind plexi glass-is that it's obvious what's still available. I'll admit, there will be a special discount or pop-up flavor and I'll be lazy and wait to go. Then she's sold out! I mean, good for her! But I can just walk in and see what flavors are left. No more asking what's in stock! Simple. Oh, and every girl I've met that works there is SO nice! I don't see the bad Dutch service that people talk about. But I can tell you that for sure you will not have bad service here! Want a smile? Just walk in and you'll get one for free ;) Just remember that they only take cards...debit or credit. First time I came here on a Saturday afternoon and waited about 30 minutes for a table of two. Only two of their cakes were sold out, so I guess we got really lucky! The second time I came on a Sunday afternoon, and 70% of their cakes were already sold out. They still had the seasonal Winterland Mille Crepe at least, so I ordered that one (although it was also sold out by the time we left). The Winterland has Oreo sprinkles on top and three layers of cream: Jasmine tea, taro, and hazelnut. The crepe had a lovely light and airy texture. I really enjoyed it! Personally, I'm not sure if the long wait and the fact that things are constantly sold out is worth it, especially since their matcha latte was average at best. My tip: If you get a cake, I would opt for unsweetened matcha.

And to be honest, they were not good at all compared to all the cupcakes I've had. I bake much better cupcakes myself. Nothing against butter cream, they should not be called Red Velvet or Carrot cupcakes unless they have real cream cheese icing. Butter cream is cheap and not worth the calories. Ten to Three Bakery is the first place I found that actually serve cream cheese icing on their cupcakes. The cupcakes taste good. The size is standard cupcake size (they also have mini cupcakes available). The presentation is good. The interior of the cafe is pleasant, spacious, and clean. The staffs are friendly in general. English menu is also available. Recommendations: - Red Velvet Cupcakes - Tea with 2 scones combo (it comes with jam and mascarpone cheese spread). The scones are quite different that the scones I'm used to. They're a bit more softer than a normal scone, but a bit more dense than regular bread.

I sent to Perfect Pastry an email inquiring about the possibility of making a custom birthday cake with a specific layered interior filling, and a custom inscription on the top of the cake, and a card. Nermina responded the very next day with detailed information and a price. Even with a nine hour time difference Nermina was extremely responsive, and detail-oriented. I was also able to request a specific two hour delivery window. The cake arrived at my in-laws' apartment exactly on time. The cake was visually beautiful, and the filling was exactly as I had requested. My wife and her family reported that it was one of the most delicious birthday cakes they had ever enjoyed! The cake was indeed perfect, and so was the experience in terms of inquiring, ordering and executing. It's a reasonably small place, so I wouldn't recommend it for groups, but it's very nice to sit inside when you're with a friend.
