Cummings on 7th East is a classic! Delicious hand-dipped chocolates, beautifully packaged candies, and sugar-free options, too. Holidays get very busy for them, so it's always a good idea to call in advance to place your order. I called first thing in the morning and they made, boxed, and wrapped several boxes of chocolate covered cherries and grapes for Valentine's Day and wrapped them beautifully! Be sure to linger and check out the beautiful displays at this quiet, lovely, little candy factory.

This little chocolate store holds a special place in my heart. When I was young, my mother and grandmother would bring me here periodically for a special treat. I could not remember what we would get, until recently when my mom and I stopped by. It's the cherry cordials. And they are remarkable. I picked up a few other items, and they were fine. But those gooey cordials are the reason I'll drive back again and again.

The employee was super nice. Gave me good recommendations and was helpful otherwise. I got a bag of half price "seconds" which weren't pretty enough to sell but they're still amazing! The fillings are smooth. The dark chocolate is rich and yummy. I'm digging it.

We really REALLY love their dark chocolate and milk chocolate sandwich mints, that we buy several boxes at a time and their Victoria Rum Truffle (I think is the name), but other than that...their service SUX, the employees don't seem to know their products and I've had to help them find things, for other customers. It's weird. It's happened with not just one, but several employees. I don't get it. It's a small store. I asked about gift ideas and they really don't have answers, despite their "gift basket" displays, which are super unappealing. Benefits: You get 1 free sample, there's a seating area and parking. We'll keep going back for the mints, but that's all.

Chocolate covered caramel hearts-I think these only come out at valentines.

This is my neighborhood chocolate shop so conveniently located next to Liberty park. And it has the best chocolate covered grapes you will ever have. The strawberries are really good as well but the grapes are so addicting. I don't need a special occasion to get these, I just stop by after a run and treat my self. They do close at 6pand sometimes sell out of the chocolate covered grapes, strawberries and raspberries early but I have their number on speed dial. They also have a lot of other prepackaged chocolate treats that are tasty like chocolate covered cinnamon bears, pretzels, caramel hearts and nut varieties beside the boxed chocolates you can get. They have been in slc for over 50 years and I'm not sure they have ever updated their motif but it's still charming nonetheless. Plenty of parking and easy to walk to from Liberty park-bop over next time your in the area and support local and enjoy a classic slc treat.

Many moons ago, I thought their chocolates were the stuff dreams were made of. Yesterday, after many intervening years of not having any, I bought some of "triple-flavor opera" and vanilla creme truffles. Now, I am no expert on this thing called "life" but it seems that either my memory is flawed, or my palate has changed drastically, or.... the quality of their stuff has taken a considerable hit. I hate the idea that they have taken shortcuts in how they make their chocolates, or that they have changed the recipes for other reasons. At the same time, I don't know if my ability to discern "good" from "bad" has changed, or if my memories of how good it was have been implanted in me by some alien technology, such that their chocolates were simply never that good to begin with. All I know is, despite my apologetics to the contrary, they taste like garbage now. Waxy milk chocolate is nasty. My appreciation for their candy will have to remain what it is: a distant memory. RIP

Since the 215 exit off Foothill is closed I've been taking 7th East all the way home each work day, and every time I pass by Cummings Studio Chocolates I've thought, considering my great love of all things chocolate, I should probably check it out. I didn't have super high expectations, and while the type of chocolate they sell is mostly what I imagined, it is a cute shop, and there were a few surprises. It is most definitely on the old-fashioned side. The chocolate itself isn't particularly high quality: not snappy at all, some a bit bloomed, and very soft and melty, although I have to admit the flavor is not bad. When making my selections they asked if I wanted dark or milk chocolate. I was confused because all the chocolates looked like the same color. I honestly had to peer right up next to the case to see that, okay, yes, maybe the ones on the right were a little darker? Regardless, this clearly isn't any fantastic chocolate. Same goes for the fillings: some were most certainly artificially flavored and colored. I was surprised to see they had sugar free and vegan options. That's super cool, and in fact one of the chocolates I requested, a lavender truffle, happened to be vegan. Sadly, I didn't get to try it because the girl assisting me neglected to add it to the bag, even though I very clearly expressed my excitement, and asked for it twice. Another annoyance was that many of the chocolates weren't labeled. What a waste of time to have to ask what each one was! They have some prepackaged chocolates and candies, including gummies and fruity treats, and Marich brand sweets which aren't the greatest, but slightly better chocolate than your average candy bar. I can't quite recall everything that I got, but I do remember triple flavor opera fudge and a strawberry chocolate (those two particularly artificial tasting), some sort of nut nougat (decent), orange peel (decent), raspberry truffle (pretty tasty), and a toffee truffle (the clear winner). Prices are $35/lb for dark chocolate, (I think) $30 for milk, or $33 if you get a mix of both. This is very reasonable for good chocolate, but not for their quality. If you're curious about what that will get you I paid about $9.00 for 7 pieces. They let me choose a free chocolate after I checked out, so that was nice. Not sure if a purchase is required in order to get the free chocolate. If the price was, say, $20 a pound I'd probably give them 4 stars, but as it stands they ask too much for a fairly low quality (though not terrible) product, so they get 3. I'm curious about the vegan chocolate, and I really love lavender so I'd like to try the lavender truffle. I also saw that they have seafoam (one of my favorite treats) on their website. So I might stop by once more to try those sweets, but otherwise there is little reason for me to return.

For a Mothers Day gift my husband and son surprised me with the most beautiful box of chocolates. They had carefully selected a variety of dark chocolate flavors. We did a taste testing after dinner and I thoroughly enjoyed the smooth dark chocolate and delicious flavors. They were given excellent service and we would definitely bring friends in to try these delectable chocolates in SLC.

Really good quality chocolates. There was nothing We felt they had that Other chocolatiers wouldn't have but we would definitely be by to purchase again. A bit pricey but we've been to enough chocolate shops to know that's pretty standard. We loved everything we got including the assorted truffles my husband picked out. Staff was helpful since it was our first time. We were getting chocolate for a recovering family member and ended buying for ourselves as well.

Spent $10 on a chocolate egg for my niece for Easter and it didn't look great so I asked them to fix and they said no. Not going back.

Whether…read moreyou are into candy, fudge, soda, caramel apples, cotton candy or ice cream-this place has it. The selection is rather impressive. Candy takes most of us back to our childhood, so it's appropriate that the theme here is "retro." Along with candy from yesteryear, there are cool vintage looking signs and knick knacks for collectors. There are also tons of glass bottles of soda-the kind that you probably grew up drinking, or wish you had. Leatherby's ice cream (arguably the best out there) is served here as well. Want chocolate? Yup, plenty of decadent chocolates as well as a mouth-watering assortment of caramel apples. Really, there's something for everyone. If you don't find something here that you like, I would really question your level of contentment in life. I docked a star for a couple things. First, the location is tricky to get to. There's no direct access from the road, you have to maneuver around the building and enter from the side opposite the main road. It appears that another entrance is planned, but a temporary concrete barrier prevents it from being used until it's fully developed. So that's a challenge-one that will be resolved as the area grows and fills in. The other challenge was the customer service. There were two young ladies working there and neither of them greeting us when we entered. (It's a small enough space, and we were the only customers. It just felt awkward to walk in and start browsing while she just watched us.) When we checked out, I attempted friendly small talk and it fell flat. She wasn't rude, just not the friendly personality I'd hope to find in a local, small business. Otherwise, it's a great place and I'm sure my sweet tooth will guide me back again!
