After a certain point on the Turnpike, service plazas all started to look the same. After reading over other peoples reviews of this place, I must of came upon it after their tear down and revamp. It looks much like the other plazas and is nice and new. I cannot remember the restaurants that populated this one particular plaza, but I'm fairly sure there was a Starbucks here at least. The bathrooms were spotless and there is ample parking. Smoking area outside on the opposite side of the gas pumps. Easy entrance and exit from the turnpike. *edit: ha, after I posted this, I remember I took a picture, so if you want to know what's here, look at my picture.

Cumberland Valley was an older style service plaza. I stopped here to take a break and possibly get some food. They had Starbucks and Roy Rogers. Seriously, where did they dig up Roy Rogers? They might as well have had Trigger there, too. I'm guessing that eating at Starbucks would have been the cheaper option because Roy Rogers was expensive for what it is. I should have taken a photo of the menu but $8 for a combo meal seems a lot and it wasn't just one item. So, I said forget that and drove to York instead. Unless you need fuel, don't bother until they update Cumberland Valley service plaza.

Stopped for a snack on our cleveland rock and roll hall of fame trip. Auntie Annie's hit the spot with some pretzel sticks and lemonade.

Winchester Safety Rest Area - Virginia Welcome Center

You know how people will make a long social media post just because they wanted to share a thirst…read moretrap? Like friend - just post your lil shirtless pic and go. This is kind of that - the Center had the cutest Virginia Is For Lovers sign and me and my love wanted a pic in front of it lmao. **************** Growing up, we did a lot of road trips and my mom taught me to avoid rest areas. Make sense from a safety perspective as women. Welcome Centers are typically a class of their own though - and this one just across the state line off I-81 is no exception. Brightly lit, inviting, ample tractor trailer parking, and sparkling clean - I can't believe I've driven past it hundreds of times and never even noticed it. Too busy making a beeline for the Bojangles at the next exit lmao. On one side of the center are the restrooms - choose from men, women, and single room "family." Truly a spot for everyone - IYKYK. The bathrooms themselves were incredibly clean, and there were a couple of larger stalls for accessible access. As a fat, nothing worse than rubbing up against the door or the seat :shivers: going into a bathroom stall. There was even a stall with a mini commode perfect for smaller people and kids. On the other side was the actual welcome center - staffed with an actual employee and hundreds of brochures, booklets, and coupon books of state attractions. Lots of vending machines too. There are two entrances - the front for car drivers and the back for tractor trailer drivers. We had some Truck Business to attend to in nearby Winchester and parked the rig overnight to sleep, then left the truck here for a few hours and it was perfectly safe. We also had our dog with us (mind your business) and were able to give him a long sniff walk around the property and tucker him out. There were a lot of employees tending to the restrooms and the grounds and they were all very friendly. Just a very nice vibe and not at all the seedy trafficking spot drilled into my head since birth lol. Now, I can't speak for what happens when the sun goes down, but during the daylight hours this is worth a stop. Enjoy!

We travel constantly and o must say this is one of the best rest stops I have ever been to. It is clean both inside and outside. Very spacious with lots of vending machines and an area to sit and relax or have a meal. The men's and women's bathrooms are kept clean and tidy and are also big and can handle numerous patrons at a time. The outside is just the same, grounds are beautifully maintained and they even have a large "LOVE" sign for pictures of your trip to their state. Graph a magazine or brochure from the rack and see everything this state has to over. I wish all rest areas were like this one, your trip would be so much more enjoyable.

Hotel A relatively…read morenewer establishment, the Homewood Suites in Carlisle was the location I picked when needing to spend a week in the area for work. Check in was a breeze and the lovely lady working the evening I got into town was happy and just extremely pleasant to deal with. she got me on my way in a few moments after I arrived. Rooms were good sized and very clean- as were all areas of the establishment: Common areas, hallways etc. Bed was comfy, and the hot water was hot - without having to wait forever. Perfect. In the morning, they offer what I would say is one of the best free breakfasts I've had in quite some time. Coffee was not only hot, but tasted very good - a rare find these days. The hot offerings changed daily and pretty much every dietary preference was covered in some fashion. the folks doing kitchen duty were obviously very dedicated to their jobs, and it showed. Round it all out with an indoor pool and fitness center as well as a small outdoor patio seating area, and you have a very good place to unwind after a long day of meetings or whatever it is that brings you to town. Overall a wonderful experience and I would absolutely use this location again if back in the area.

The managers reception in the evening was very nice, I'm in course, a salad bar, free, beer, and all sorts of snacks and drinks. The morning breakfast spread, is substantially better than a lot of the breakfast I pay $20 for another Hilton properties. Each room is like a little apartment. The fitness area, is better than the average hotel gym. This will be my new stop over, as I travel Across Pennsylvania every couple weeks. Very nice, highly recommended, just a short drive from the turnpike.
