Normally I enjoy my fairly frequent visits to The Garage but this past Sunday, I had an awful…read moreexperience with the bartender/server, Anthony. I walked in around 8pm, and he was visibly upset to have more patrons. He walked over, provided menus, but didn't take drink orders. We had our menus filled out by the time he came and took our drink orders. We ordered fairly simple drinks, but he kept asking me and my friend to repeat our drink order. When I repeated "casamigos reposado", he rolled his eyes at me and said "obviously". He was clearly annoyed he had to serve us, and only after we finished our food did he ask if we wanted refills. I've never had such terrible service at The Garage and I would not stay if I walked in and he was behind the bar. I know this isn't the norm for The Garage, but it's disappointing that they employ childish bartenders.

We really appreciated her humor and patience with us (especially with the situation with the bench seat). All in all Addison was a great person to have wait on us. The Brewers tied in Cincinnati. The US men's national team handling Bosnia. Basically every screen in the place was must-watch TV and the bartender -- understandably distracted, perhaps -- decided that was the ideal moment to restock straws and cut fruit. We waited. In the heat. Our server was genuinely good when he materialized, which wasn't as often as we'd have liked. Food: the cheese curds earned their reputation. The Mekts burger was fine -- solid, no complaints. The Reuben rolls, however, arrived looking exactly like what they were: a Sysco product plated with minimal ceremony. Hard pass next time. As for the name -- if you're picturing a dock, pilings, maybe a gull or two -- walk outside and squint hard past the road and the rooftops. Big lake's out there somewhere. Technically. Maybe a 3.2 night in a 4.3 restaurant. I'd go back on a slow Tuesday in October.

We stopped at The Spot briefly just to get my root beer float and another drink. They had a menu that was quite a bit more extensive than I would have expected, to be honest, and though some of it looked like something I wanted to try (particularly the pickles) we didn't have time to wait for them to cook. The root beer float isn't the best I've had, but it was fine. It's a car hop model, which I didn't realize at first since I'm used to places with carside service having a different kind of physical structure and this was basically just a parking lot. I don't know for certain if they are cash only but that would be my guess.

We encountered Smackin' Burgers at a fair in Winthrop Harbor. We had not heard of them prior, but…read morehappy they attended, set up shop, and delivered their delicious burgers. The burger presentation was nice, each layered perfectly as ordered and individually wrapped and bagged. They can certainly cut cost by adding a sharpie marker to mark which burgers are which and put them all in one bag. Not sure if they did this was just for the fair or not. Their set-up location was clean, under a tent, and provided all condiments and napkins. I had the opportunity to speak with the owners who were very friendly and informative. I learned they had been asked with short notice to attend and set up. Very pleased they agreed to the offer to set-up. We have since learned they have set up shop in Kenosha at Lucci's. If you haven't had the opportunity to check out this new small business and try a burger, you certainly don't want to pass it up. No website just yet, but they can be found on Facebook.

We got a table right at the main entrance and we were served promptly and pleasantly. I got help with ordering, which can be common for first timers, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. They have a nice tap list so getting a cold, refreshing beer was a must! My one critique if you will, the fries were limp.. not soggy but definitely not crispy. I didn't even bother finishing them, but the burger was filling enough that it didn't matter much. If I am in the area, I would stop here again and try a different burger, because they all looked so dang good!!

The only parking option I saw was on the street. Inside it's attractive with its own nautical character. Its food menu is burger centric and is kind of complicated to figure out. You complete a form that itemizes the kind of burger, fries, etc that you want. Even my waitress tried to help me and she got confused. Ha! I finally ordered a bowl of their beer cheese soup to start for $10.45. I then added an 8 oz grass fed beef burger with hand cut fresh fries for another $12.45. Yes, it was more food than I needed but I wanted to try the beer cheese soup which was delivered first with 4 pieces of sourdough bread. The soup was delicious being rich in cheesy flavor with cheese strings and bacon bits on top. It was a full bodied flavor soup and with the bread I could have made a meal of just this. After finishing the soup, the burger and fries appeared. It was a hearty and very good tasting burger on a quality bread bun. Also the fries were very good tasting with a good potato flavor. I couldn't finish it all but I wanted to. With a drink and tax it was about $28 before tip. I'm glad I had lunch here.
