The Beef Burgundy was especially delicious. The chicken was also very flavorful and yummy. We will certainly recommend this caterer for other events. Great job! Took 1 star off because many at our table had to wait extra time for water refills. Staff was super busy and kept walking by the table without refilling waters. I rarely give 5's unless well deserved. Went to the Quin Murphy Foundation fund raiser and bid on a private dinner for 6 by Culinary Concepts. My first thought was that it was for a good cause and the kids that are helped by the foundation would be well worth the price bid. I did not expect the executive chef plus team of 3 to take over and provide an AMAZING high-end meal that we haven't stopped talking about yet. A most enjoyable and beautifully plated experience. We were told by a number of friends that doing tastings with candidate caterers for our wedding would be one of the most enjoyable parts of our wedding planning - and they weren't wrong! But Culinary Concepts stood apart by a lot, and we are incredibly happy that we went with them. Katie was our point of contact and she did such an amazing job helping us understand the whole process from the tasting to glassware rentals and then the big day. This was our most expensive option out of the set, but we truly believe it was worth every penny. Guest after guest noted to us how highly they thought of the food. Culinary Concepts Catering is one spectacular catering company. For one, they understand their customer. Most catering companies usually have a list of dishes they can make and you create your menu based on their selections. However, Culinary Concepts was able to create a custom menu for our wedding that felt completely ours. When we first started discussing our wedding, we gave them a simple instruction: we're looking for something modern and unique with a Southeast Asian flair. We were impressed that their first go at our menu, we asked for ZERO changes. Everything single bite we tasted from their custom menu was absolutely delicious and was well inline with our vision. We couldn't believe it. You could tell they really listened to us and understood the vision we were trying to achieve. At our tasting, we brought up that although their food tasted amazing when cooked for just us two, we hoped they could execute at the same level for a 200+ guests count wedding. Given the caliber of their tasting, we trusted them and they sure did deliver. The food tasted even better at our wedding than it did during our tasting, and our guests could not stop coming up to us and raving about it! One guest said, "Chicken is always dry at weddings, but for the first time I preferred the chicken over the fish (although both were delicious)." The biggest hit of the night, though, was not the proteins but the Glass Noodle Salad. It was simple and fresh but with an incredible flavor profile. It is something you never see at weddings and we were so happy that our guests loved it. Not only was the food delicious, but the service was impeccable. Our guests were so impressed that they had so many staff available to keep the event running swiftly and efficiently. They were also so kind to help traypass desserts from another caterer (Sweet Cheeks). Also, they served our food at the buffet with teak chafing dishes instead of the typical aluminum dishes. The teak really elevated our buffet tables and matched well to the aesthetic of our venue (Scripps Seaside Forum). Lastly, their coordination staff was a pleasure to work with. Working with Merlot, Jay, Melissa, and Emilie on preparing our menu through the execution of our wedding, we felt fully comfortable and confident in their abilities to handle the most important day of our lives. There is no doubt in my mind that we would absolutely work with them again if the opportunity arose. Before working with Culinary Concepts, having been to several weddings in our lifetime there was not one wedding where we remembered the food. Our first thought is always overcooked chicken breast with mashed potatoes and carrots. Culinary Concepts, however, raised the bar tenfold. They showed us that wedding food doesn't need to be boring and forgettable. Instead, it can be unique, inspired, but most importantly, delicious. I attended their 25th anniversary party and had a blast! It was a pretty big event and it was nice to be able to roam around in the front and back patio. The decor was perfect for summer and I loved all the flowers they used for the centerpieces as well as the fruits on display. They had Snake Oil Cocktail Company making their signature drink "Strawberry Fields" which had vodka, fresh strawberries and rhubarb, pressed lime, mint, and almond orgeat. I had mine without vodka and it was very refreshing! I also tried several bites- I had the quinoa salad, pork belly,diver scallops, lamb tacos, Moroccan spiced fries with harisa aioli, and buratta. Everyone was excited when they were passing out ice cream in sugar cones! There was chocolate, vanilla, and raspberry? sorbet, but I went with the chocolate one of course! They also had a dessert station with plump strawberries and whip cream, slices of mocha cake, and a cheesy dessert. I seriously loved everything I tried, except for the cheesy one lol. All the bites were gorgeously presented and surprisingly filling. The staff was very friendly and welcoming...There was even a photo booth, musical entertainment, some pretty nice prizes, and a goodie bag to take home. Their chef, Donald Coffman, premiered some of his newest recipes at this event and I'm glad I was able to experience his amazing culinary talent. Culinary Concepts is fantastic! They catered my wedding last month at the Scripps Seaside Forum and brought their A-game. Gina was great and worked with my budget and didn't make me feel like a scumbag/cheapskate-- she even offered creative ideas to class-up our menu at a reasonable price. Unlike other caterers I spoke with, Gina seemed to actually take an interest in our wedding/menu and care, you'd think that is a common, no-brainer, but it wasn't. Her follow-up and personal interest made the difference. CC's staff was 110% attentive during the reception, but despite reminding me to eat at least 3 times, asking what I wanted on my plate, asking if they could bring me a fresh plate (after mine sat at our table for 30+ minutes), I barely had 2 bites (so sad!). We received many compliments on the food, and though I didn't eat much that day, I assure you it is super delish. I cannot remember names any of the staff that actually worked the day of, but Javier took over after Gina had the menu locked down and he was great too. He delt with our changing guest count, table count, and my lack of ability to coordinate table assignments and made it all work out. I have been working with Culinary Concepts for over 10 years both personally and for my business catering needs. Culinary has always expertly handled every event; providing good food, that guests always talk about later, and presenting it with style and by smiling staff. I write this yelp now, because a few weeks ago Culinary Concepts and their incredible staff saved my graduation event with more than 300 people in attendance from a complete disaster! Due to several over sites by myself and my venue, I somehow contracted catering for the graduation the day after the actual event date. I showed up at the venue a few hours in advance and because we have used Culinary twice a year, for over 10 years, I knew immediately that there was a problem and that no caterers were onsite. I called, only to find out that I booked the next day. What happened next is a tribute to the dedication of this staff and to the loyalty they hold with their clients. With only a few management and a sous chef, whatever food they had prepared for the next day, was loaded in a truck and rushed to the venue. The last serving tray was paced on the table as the doors opened and my guests poured out. They called it "catering triage" and I had tears in my eyes. Not a guest knew what happened and all ended beautifully. Culinary Concepts will deliver in the best of times and also in the worst of times. All times, no matter what occurs will be wonderful! Nearly a month after the wedding, and do you know what I'm still hearing from the people who attended? "What an amazing wedding...the food was INCREDIBLE!" Both me and my husband *love* food, and it's a love that's shared by pretty much all of our family and friends. Our guests range from total Foodies (with a capital F) who read food blogs and are always on the lookout for hot new chefs, to grandmothers and aunts with killer recipes that have been passed down for generations. We knew that food was going to be the one thing for our wedding where we were willing to splurge a little. We also had a bit of a strange dream: we imagined a caterer who could provide the perfect mix of Mexican and Polish food. I'm Latina, he's 1st-gen Polish-American...so what better way to celebrate the joining of our families? There were only a few caterers that we contacted that were confident that they could take on this challenge. Only three were responsive enough to arrange a tasting that could accommodate our busy schedules. Of the three...Culinary Concepts blew us away. The chef cooked his first pierogi ever at our tasting, and it tasted almost exactly like my mother-in-law's pierogi. And so on and so forth -- I wish I could list all of the incredible food that they made for us, but there's not nearly enough space! On the day of the wedding, the food was JUST AS GOOD as it was at the tasting -- awesome when you're cooking for ~120 people! Culinary Concepts also somehow managed to cater perfectly to my mother, who is allergic to EVERY kind of pepper. Yes, even though the menu had peppers in nearly everything, they prepared special versions of each dish in a separate pan + plate JUST for her. My mother felt super-special; I'm sure she's never received that kind of service in most restaurants. And the service, overall -- really top-notch. We had a backyard wedding, and it was just about transformed into a 5-star restaurant. Every member of the Culinary Concepts team was swift, clean and courteous. One more thing -- we did our catering family style, which was a very happy medium between plated and buffet. Culinary Concepts worked with us to create a special menu that went with a modern Mexican fiesta theme for our wedding in March 2012 at the Darlington House in La Jolla. We chose 3 different appetizers for cocktail hour, a plated first salad course, which was good, and 3 food stations of braised short ribs, chicken mole, and street tacos. All the guests were raving about the food, and many said that it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding. Our wedding planner suggested them for our wedding at Scripps Seaside Forum, and we were blown away with their presentation and professionalism during our tasting and on the actual day of!! Everything was served so perfectly, we were so happy with our service. While it's a small detail, we had originally agreed to a few minor items that didn't pan out on the actual wedding day. No one else noticed but us (because the guests didn't know any better) but I was a little disappointed in these missing items (having two types of tortillas, having the salads plated vs. being in line with the buffet, not having rolls as we were originally promised). Still, they were WELL worth the money and overall we were extremely pleased with the quality of the food and service. I attended our work holiday party at the Library that was catered by Culinary Concepts. The. food. was. fabulous!! It was a sit down dinner and we were presented with lovely salad greens and a warm pumpkin soup in a small glass. I had the salmon (yum) and it was served with multi colored carrots, and cheese potatoes. Desert was mini cheese cake, carrot cake (my fave) and a pyramid chocolate mouse cake. Finding a caterer for a wedding is not a fun undertaking. Our venue had a set list of who we could use. I looked over the sample menus and contacted three from the list. One company was out of business already, so it was down to two. The other company, TK & A Catering, seemed to have a good menu, but their customer service was horrible. The moment I contacted Culinary Concepts, Gina was very accommodating and helpful. The decision was easy. We used Culinary Concepts as our caterer for our wedding in May and they were amazing! People rarely talk about food after a wedding, but people are still talking about their chicken skewer dish. Gina and Craig were great to work with. From the initial communication & all the way to our wedding day - the customer service and attention to detail was on point with Culinary Concepts. Let's work backwards....EVERYONE raved about our food, and went out for multiple servings (we did a station style set-up). Many of our friends and family are from the east coast, so we truly wanted to have the flavors of San Diego at our wedding, so one of our options was grilled fish tacos for our main course. I've always known food was the most important facet of a wedding from the point of view of a guest, so it's no surprise that food at my own wedding would be of the utmost priority! We tried a few vendors and while a few were strong, we decided on Culinary Concepts because of the taste as well as their ability to customize the menu at an affordable cost. We were able to customize our menu to match our honeymoon (Italian food!), from the appetizers to the main courses, and Katie worked very closely with us to make sure every detail was how we wanted, from napkins to glasses to plates to the food. What blew us away was the actual experience. The food was excellent (better than we originally tasted somehow!), and we had servers making sure that we enjoyed each course. Culinary Concepts made our wedding the best day of our lives! We started the planning a little backwards and researched catering before anything else. When we found Gina Eliason and tasted the food, we knew our search was over. What sold us first was the quality, taste, and variety of food they offed. Second, Culinary Concepts is more that just a caterer, they help with rentals, planning, timelines, and anything else you need. I explained to Gina what kind of wedding we were looking for and what our budget was and her recommendations nailed our vision and dreams. She recommended our DJ (Mike Farmer) our venue (La Jolla Woman's Club - Sharlene) and our rental company. Gina had a handle on all the preplanning and kept me organized and sane. When we got closer to the wedding I worked the Craig Martin, who is director of operations, and handled all the details of the timeline and service at the wedding. He was amazing and addressed all of my questions and concerns. On the day of our wedding Gina and Craig were on location making sure everything went smoothly. There was a moment before the ceremony when my mom's purse broke and without hesitation Gina pulled out magic tape that held everything together! After the ceremony and the recessional Kevin Servais, our serving Captain, was waiting with tray passed hors d'oeuvres for the wedding party and offered us something to drink. Kevin made sure all our guests were fed and happy and continued to check on me and my husband throughout the night. We decided on a dual entree of chicken and fish and everyone raved about it. At the end of the night Kevin gave us an two additional dinners and a slice of all four cake flavors to take with us and eat later that night at our hotel. After traveling to Spain, my husband & I wanted to add a little Spanish flavor to our wedding menu. We were having a difficult time finding a caterer who could pull it off until we met with Gina. Everything from the linens to the dessert exceeded our expectations. We had a family style dinner for a wedding of 180 people. We had chicken, pasta, veggies, and two flatbread pizzas. We can not have enough greats things to say about this catering company!! This review is a little overdue as this company catered our wedding in March at the Martin Johnson House. Every interaction leading up to that day was nothing but professional. Phone calls or emails were returned promptly, we never felt pressured or uncomfortable with the process, and we really felt that there was a team working on our wedding, especially the day of. Katie, our initial coordinator, was awesome and was present the day of the event. The wedding day staff were all excellent. We really can say that we did not have expectations in mind regarding the service going in to the day, but the crew that handled our wedding could not have been better, especially the lead (i am sorry we do not remember his name but many thanks for keeping us and our guests happy)!! Our wedding day was the day a rain monsoon decided to open over our outdoor venue :( and we really think the excellent service played a large part in saving the day. For weeks after the event we continued to hear praise about the service and the food. Not going to lie, we definitely had a little bit of sticker shock going in to deciding on a caterer but the cost was worth it. We used culinary concepts for our wedding this past March. It was very important to me to have a professional and organized caterer because our venue required everything to be brought in (including kitchen equipment). Culinary Concepts was truly full service and a pleasure to work with. Emilie (our event manger) was calm, cool and collected during the entire process, which gave me confidence the event would go well day-of (and it was!) As for the food - AMAZING! There is always a concern when you are cooking in a temporary kitchen for 150 guests, but the fish was moist and flaky, the short ribs were tender and the sides were crisp and warm! We got endless compliments on the food from our guests - it was the definitely one of the highlights from the night! As for apps- The crab cakes were a HIT! Plus - we even challenged the chef to add some central american inspiration to our dishes.. and he did great! Day of Service - I can not compliment the staff that was at our wedding enough. They were attentive and executed everything flawlessly. If your on the fence about culinary concepts - don't be. They service is top notch and their food is award worthy. Culinary Concepts catered our wedding in June and we were so happy to have them be a part of our wedding. First of all, the food was amazing. They worked with us on creating a menu that incorporated our food interests, which meant we had food that was unique to our wedding. We received many compliments from guests that this was the best wedding food they've had. We also loved the personal touches CC provided, such as making additional entree plates for the bride and groom to take home. We enjoyed being able to enjoy the dinner again the night after our wedding. Additionally, Culinary Concepts went beyond providing excellent food, they provided incredible service throughout our entire wedding planning process. The team was thorough in making sure they covered every detail, including things I would not have even thought of myself. On the day of our wedding, they coordinated with our other vendors to make everything run smoothly and were consistently checking in to make sure all of our needs were being met.
