What a lovely village nestled in a valley just off the main toll road.
La Misión (also known as Misión de San Miguel) is at about K-44, just between Rosarito and Ensenada -- a perfect location if you would like to plan a visit so that you can enjoy both of these Baja California cities. It is also a short drive, albeit down a windy road, to wine country. Perfect location for explorers.
While it does not have as many offerings as the larger cities, that is part of its charm. You will not find a lot of restaurants, shopping centers or tourist locations here. It is popular with tourists, yes, but it is a sleepy city still consumed by local folks and expats.
That said, it is a strong mix of tradition and contemporary. You will find a lot of new and newer construction out this way and quite a number of available Airbnb locations. And some of the more popular restaurants are highly popular with the tourist crowd (see: La Fonda and Splash).
But there are also the taco stands and enclaves where you can meet and chat with local folk who have lived here for generations. The ruins of Arcángel de la Frontera are located here. Also, it is also quite common to find horses, roosters, chicken, goats and other animals cohabitating here. We even saw turkey and a single ostrich. You'll also see a good number of dogs off leash.
A popular and favorite sight are the folks riding their horses down the valley toward the beach and back.
A nice slice of peace and quiet. Can't wait to return. read more
