Short walk to the falls and beautiful! Take a book, walk down to the falls, sit on a large rock, listen to the falls, read your book and enjoy the day!

Cucumber Falls July 20, 2019 Ohiopyle State Park in PA with hubby Tony Vanoy. This is a free area to Enjoy and the hiking down continues farther down about 500 ft to the Youghiegheny River. There you can swim, enjoy sandy beach and large rocks. The waterfall has a wading pool area you can swim also but everything is at your own risk. Lots of people there the day we went. I can't wait to go again

Beautiful waterfall located in close proximity to the Youghiogheny River! The parking area is smaller than the demand for it, so it was a little bit tricky. Once we got a spot, we headed down to admire the falls. It was very pretty, and the stairs and trail down gave several different angles from which to see it. We followed the trail down to the river, which was also neat to see. It was calm in the section near Cucumber Falls, and there were a lot of rock formations to sit on and enjoy the sights of fishing and the various watercraft on the river. This is a great section of Ohiopyle State Park, and the trail options offer several options for enjoying it.

Some say I'm still stuck up there lol

This place is gorgeous. I'm only knocking off one star, because it could use a bigger parking lot. If you are lucky enough to find a spot in the lot you have just a short walk and some stairs before you can see the falls from an overlook area. If you venture down a flight of stairs you can approach closer to the falls. There isn't a very easy path to get right up to the falls. You will have to climb over a rock or a downed tree or two. It is worth it if you can make it up to it. The falls wasn't a ton of water when I was there so we were able to approach it and sit right under it for some stunning photos. A couple was there taking their engagement photos when we arrived. For the more adventurous there is a ledge behind the falls you can climb up on and circle around the falls. It does get pretty slippery though. There are also some nice hiking trails near the falls which I'd say were about moderately difficult. One of our party only had the use of one hand and she was able to navigate the trails. Also, if you follow the water out from the falls you will see the river and can watch rafters and kayakers go by.

It's a really cool waterfall and a little bit down the patch is a river with people white water rafting. Good spot to fish too if you wanted

Cucumber Falls, while it was a bit underwhelming due to low water levels, definitely tickled my pickle and made me smile.

Motoring in my rented SUV through the gorgeous Laurel Highlands region, I had roughly an hour to drive the seven miles between the two homes right through this park. Right in the heart is a most worthwhile stop, Ohiopyle Falls, a twenty-foot waterfall that spans the wide Youghiogheny River over a couple of dramatic levels. The parking lot was huge and pretty empty, and it was a quick stroll to the broad observation decks that jut out over the river. There was a group of kayakers huddled together as they were preparing to navigate the whitewater torrents. The hamlet of Ohiopyle provides a welcome coffee break. We explained that the State Park Ranger had assigned the site upon checkin and mentioned nothing about a "No Dog Zone". They indicated that since we were checking out the next morning we would have to move. The officers were very nice however them being so heavily armed was a bit unnerving!! In Pennsylvania state parks, dogs are generally not allowed in swimming areas, inside buildings, or in designated non-pet overnight areas like cabins and group tenting areas. They are also prohibited in any area specifically designated as closed to pets. Responsible pet ownership is expected, meaning dogs must be leashed, attended, and their waste must be cleaned up!!! After a seven hour multi state slough we finally arrived at Ohiopyle State Park in PA. Site 139 was an easy back in however due to an afternoon thunderstorm there's no power to the campground upon our arrival but thankfully it came back on a short while ago! We've decided to enjoy a second day exploring the river, local sites etc. Really enjoyed our stay. While the entry roads are a bit tight the facilities were clean plus the staff was amazingly friendly. Highly recommended.

My recent visit was promising at first, but the rain just kept coming all day long and it "dampened" my spirits completely. I stopped by the main office and got directions to the Jones Mill Dam. Since it was raining so much I gave it some time to clear up, but to no avail. This park is certainly worth checking out and it will be super beautiful later on in the Spring. The wood frogs, spring peepers and other animals will be active. On the same road that this park lies on is two other parks: Kooser State Park and Laurel Ridge State Park, so it is possible to hit those up while in the area. I will certainly make the trip out here later on towards May.

What a great spot for a hike, but an even better place for a swim, relaxing, a picnic on the grass or some sun on the sand by the water. So after we arrived we hit the trail that ran along the water while taking in the small but beautiful lake. We then proceeded to head into the woods. It was a great little hike and the trails were very easy. After we were done hiking we got the huge blanket and the cooler with snacks and drinks in it out of the car and headed over to a shaded spot under the trees. We sat in the grass area in the left corner of the parking lot and listened to music, ate, drank and enjoyed each other's company for a good while. Then after that we packed up our stuff in the car and headed down to the water and enjoyed the lake which is very clean and refreshing and the scenery is absolutely beautiful. I love that they have sand and everyone looked so happy. They also have an area where you can purchase food and beverages but they also have many other great amenities which I am sure can be discovered on here or on their website. I am so glad I discovered this place. I will most definitely be stopping by again when I am in the area. Enjoy :)

This place is amazing!! A big thanks to Susan D and her list of hiking places for pointing it out! This is not to be missed if you're looking for some outdoor adventure and some great hiking along miles and miles of trails. We drove out here solely to spend a great fall day in the woods. Armed with trail maps we got online we picked out roughly the miles we wanted to hike and started off. What surprised us was the condition of the trails - amazing! Some were pine covered making for soft comfortable walking. Others were moss or grass covered and a few had some loose rock that you had to be careful with. I know this is Laurel Mountain but I was amazed to be hiking through dense forests of spectacular mountain laurel and rhododendron. What a gorgeous place! We were there after all the leaves were gone but we are sure to come back when the place is in bloom or in full fall color. We didn't run into a single person anywhere during our extensive hike ( we enjoyed it so much we went far beyond our initial hiking plan!). If you enjoy hiking and being outdoors, I highly recommend you give Bear Run a try. It's worth the drive!!
