I called ahead to book an appointment for a hitch install on my car. Confirmed on the phone that…read morethe appointment was set for 11am, I would stay with the car, and drive off the lot no later than 2pm. I dropped my car off on time, was greeted with quick remarks and attitude from the gentleman inside who informed me my car was "scheduled for 12pm but I have no idea when we will get to it" and to come back and pick it up later. From being told and confirming all the details on the phone to getting told a completely different story in person is just not up to my standard of customer satisfaction. There was no "waiting area" besides a bench outside (it was raining) and I hadn't arranged for a ride because I was expecting to wait for it to be done. My car was done around 4pm and the new people inside were nice and easier to talk to than the grump earlier in the day. The hitch has performed as advertised, but I would have saved myself the headache and gone elsewhere if I had known I would be without my car for the better part of the day.

This was my second hitch installation at this location. I had one done last year and the experience…read morebetween the two was night and day. First time was great. Clear information given, the process was explained top to bottom, the tech had a great personality and genuinely seemed to care about my experience. That's what brought me back to get a new hitch put on a new car. Sadly this time didn't start off right and I should have bailed then. Appointment was made online via the U-Haul app for Monday the 18th a week ahead of time. On the following Friday I get a call from a tech (didn't provide a name) telling me the parts for my installation hadn't come in. He said that it was a FedEx issue and that they would be in Tuesday morning and would I want to reschedule for Wednesday. I explained that wasn't satisfactory as I have a camping trip planned and was leaving after the install on Monday. The tech didn't care, continued to blame FedEx and that there was nothing he could. After back and forth with his excuses and having to raise my voice over his to speak, I asked for his manager. He told me his manager (name not provided) would call me back shortly and explain the situation. Immediately after hanging up the phone I called U-Haul customer support and was helped by Josue, who was great and after hearing about what was happening looked in his system and could see all my parts were in stock and that he would call the location to see why they couldn't do it. Surprise surprise, there was no longer an issue and my appointment was all set for Monday morning. ( thank you Josue). Saturday morning I get call from someone named Steve from U-Haul who offers me a new appointment on Sunday, which I took seeing as I was leaving on Monday. Sunday, I'm dropping off my car and while handing the tech my keys I asked to confirm that the work order said I needed a 7pin round/4 pin flat combination plug. It's not standard and I had to select this option when setting up the appointment. As he starts to answer I realize this is the tech that had called me to get out of the job on Friday, I can tell by his attitude. So no name tech starts to tell me that they don't do that. It's always a 4 pin flat and they don't even carry them. I told no name that I was here last year for a hitch and they had no issue with putting a combination plug on. So he decided to ask his manager. The manager comes in, doesn't introduce himself to me but instead carries a conversation with no name about my install as if I'm not standing at the counter. After a few minutes no name manager leaves and no name tech magically pulls out a 7pin combination plug and tells me I'm gonna have to pay extra. At this point I'm livid and just want this to be done because I'm stuck. Trips tomorrow and I need this hitch. So I hand them the key and went on with my day. Install was completed by 12. I DO NOT feel comfortable with this hitch given the experience. I've towed for 13 years and have never felt more unsure about hooking up to my car. The technician was not competent and the manager (Steve, who only gave his name at the start of the phone call saying the job was done)did nothing to elevate those concerns. In fact he exacerbated them. This was not what I was expecting at all. The first experience was so good and the second was so bad that I don't understand what happened. New management? New employees? Poor training? U-Haul should really look at the reviews for the Oakland beach location in RI and consider making some adjustments. I'm sure this isn't how they like their name attached to something. All I can do is hope this was done professionally even if it didn't seem like there was a professional in the building today. I will never use the Oakland beach location again. I will travel if it means I'll be treated like a customer who's spending a good chunk of change and not some nuisance that's only there so you can get paid
