Birdsong Resort Marina & RV Campground

Birdsong is a great place on the TN river, situated on Birdsong creek off the main channel so you…read moreget somd peaceful sunrises and sunsets. They have a full service marina with marina store, including fishing supplies, drinks, snacks and yes they have beer. ( lots of stops along TN river are in dry counties) They have fuel, transient docks and access to a pool, community center, playground and larger store at the pearl museum for parts and repairs. The resort part of Birdsong has cabins and trailers that can accommodate small to large groups, all with full kitchens, heat and AC. The owners are accessible and eager to please, and there are space for RV's and even an area for tents. A beautiful spot for boaters, campers and vacationers.

It is truly a trailer park. 3rd of all, the website indicates hiking trails...there are NO HIKING TRAILS in the campgrounds. We were told 2 miles up the road there is a trail...we didn't go. 4th thing, the campsites are so close together. No real privacy. 5th thing, the single stall shower in the bathhouse is smaller than the showers on most RVs. And lastly, the permanent residents get the best sites. the sites are definitely not worth $80/night. There is a highlight of the stay. The lady that works in the Pearl museum was very knowledgeable on the Pearl farm. She was so nice to thoroughly explain the background and the history of the farm.

Little did I know that I would eventually make my power cruiser home port not far away and find myself returning here from time to time. (This is my power boat not my sailboat, the sailboat home port was another 100+ miles north, it's complicated) Anyway, this marina has fuel services (both diiesel and gas), limited boat repair, permanent slips for all size boats from fishing boats to 40' party boats, tansient docks, a retail store with snacks, supplies, swimming, fishing gear, fishing bait and more. There's also a restaurant (separate Yelp page) but there are very integrated but none of the partying goes on in the ship store, not officially anyway. They celebrate everything here from cinco de mayo to Mardis Gras. There's karaoke and a juke box at the restaurant. Speaking of celebrations, people come by boat and by car for the 4th of July because these folks float a small barge about 150 yards out and load it up with fireworks. I din't think they hire a big time professional because a couple years back we decided to check 'em out and while tied up to dock one volley went sideways and sprayed across the bow of our boat, yep tense moment. Verdict, the fireworks are not so safe :-) Of all the memories the one that will live in infamy is one hot ass day in July. We had been cruising all morning and the heat was just wearing ymus down so I took an assessment of our location and decided we'd shoot for Mermaud for lunch and some indoor air conditioning to get a break from the increasingly relentless heat. Imagine our surprise when we rounded the band to the entrance and we see people flowing out and sitting outside. People were carrying arms full of goods and we asked what was up. They were giving away all there ice cream, food and perishables because, what for it, THE POWER LINES HAD ALL MELTED. Seriously! The tall power towers outside carrying huge power lines both to the marina and surrounding homes & businesses had literally melted and come undone!! Wow that is friggin' hot!! So we grabbed some ice, some free ice cream and decided that this incredibly hot day was best spent ashore and we headed back to our hind port, hooked up to shore power and cranked up our AC and settled in for the rest of the day. Bottom line: They have a decent supply of all the basic goods needed for your day on the water or a stopover if you're cruising up fron Florida or down from the Great Lakes. It's approximately midway from Pickwick and Paris Landing and does offer shelter from weather.
