You'll find mostly regular older gents and some younger lads that are over to watch the match. Yes, you might be stared at if you're not from the area or their typical crowd, but they quickly stop caring and you can make this pub your own. Graingers has a good selection of beers and even some cocktails. You will also find a smoking area out back (heated), and there is plenty of space inside for large groups. They usually feature some local rock duo during most nights, and I'm pretty sure they still do quiz nights on Thursdays (which are quite fun, even for the 21-30 year old demographic). It's also vape friendly, as long as you are discreet and don't start blowing big clouds. If you do, just head out back or sit out front on one of the two tables to watch the world go by while vaping/ smoking. Pint of Guinness is 4.50 and you can get two cocktails for 10 euro. Bathrooms are usually mopped thru out the night, but can still be a bit messy. Then again, could be worse! If you're looking for a nice peaceful evening without too much excitement and / or just want to grab a pint to unwind and watch a game, Graingers is great for those living around.

When a pub is located within the unappealing confines of the Donaghmede Shopping Centre, you should…read moreget some indication of the type pub that it is going to be (i.e a shit one). The Grange/Donahies/Donaghmede area is a strange one. For a place with such a large population (think mile upon mile of suburban housing estates) the locality only has one pub (two if you include the O'Tooles' clubhouse, which I won't). This doesn't leave the people with a huge amount of options as to where to go for a pint. Apparently, many decide not to go at all at all, as not that many people drink in the D Inn. And if you've ever been in this pub, you might understand why. Exclusively locals, a lot of them rough, all of them men. It wasn't too bad during the day when I went there, but there's frequently trouble at night. The staff are all ignorant assholes who talk to each other and maybe one of the lads at the bar while ignoring your frequent attempts to get their attention. Aslan played there a couple of years ago. That's the type of place we're talking about here, people.

They have two large projector screens and at least half a dozen TV screens. This is great for anyone who is interested in racing or sport. I would see it as a big bar rather than a lounge. Because of this I see it as a very expensive pub. It's well run and they always seem to have friendly staff

Raheny

I wouldn't normally be one to plagiarise the work of others in my reviews, but I think that for my…read morereview of The Cedar Lounge in sunny Raheny, I may have to borrow the headline of The Star's Pub Spy's review, which hangs laminated behind the bar: "THE CEDAR LOUNGE WAS 'TREE'MENDOUS: Locals should be proud of this really classy boozer". Well, we are. The Cedars is the nicest of Raheny's pubs. While the decor may have been nicer in the sadly missed Shieling Hotel, for ambiance and quality of the pints, the Cedars has always been head and shoulders above the rest. It's unlikely that you would stumble across the Cedars, as it is off the main road, so it gets very little passing trade. The Cedars has a very small catchment area, and is frequented mainly by people living in the surrounding housing estate, but don't let that put you off. When you get to the main door of the Cedars, there's a door leading left, and another leading right. In to the right is the bar, where there's s television and this where all the regulars drink. There's almost never a woman in the place, and my group of friends are the only people under forty who drink there with any regularity. We wouldn't change it for the world, however. In to the left is the lounge, which has no telly and looks a little less like an old man pub. It's still very nice, though; it's where the couples and such tend to sit at the weekend. During weeknights, it can be a little dead. The Cedars can also boast two smoking areas. Well, one is actually more of a yard with a few tables in it that no-one really goes to, but the other is a really nice covered smoking area, nice to sit out and have a few scoops in. There's also one room that has books all along the walls, that you can buy at the bar for a euro. There's one other bookshop in Raheny that is useless, mainly schoolbooks and a few bestsellers, very small, so the Cedars is also technically the best bookshop in Raheny as well as the best pub. The Cedars also periodically hosts tables quizzes for deserving causes, plus they do a raffle every Sunday with the money going to hospices and hospitals and whatnot. And they have a golf club, so they really have all bases covered. The Cedar Lounge is easily one of the best pubs on the northside and is absolutely worth a trip, so why not give it a go this evening, there's a fair chance that I'll be in the bar. You can buy me a drink to thank me for making the recommendation.

Jump forward 30 years & the young people have grown up & moved out of the area. The result is an older crowd now. It has always been a very well run pub & is the only pub in Raheny never to have needed security on the door, even in the 80s & 90s when it was packed. It's a well run pub, great friendly staff & reasonable prices. They even still do toasted ham & cheese sandwiches

The pub is quite large and can accommodate a large party such as ourselves for the afternoon. Lots of TV's to catch a match and craic to feel at home. We had a lovely veg soup upon our arrival to take the cold from the gravesite out of us and get the warmth back in. The soup was piping hot and light enough to leave room for a lovely tea sandwich or two. And the tea sandwiches were served with crunchy rippled cheese and onion crisps (Hunkey Dorys) that complimented the sandwhiches nicely. The service was a bit scattered but can't slag them considering we were quite a large party all at the same time. Once they got going they were friendly and attentive. The Guinness was nice, the tea and they make a lovely Irish Coffee as well. To you Uncle Paddy, it was an honor to sit in your local and celebrate you!

Thought provoking albeit populist musings on systemic corruption in Irish politics are always offered. If hunger in addition to an unquenched thirst draws you to Kenny's then I suggest the Planter's Peanut salad as an appetizer followed by Cheese 'n Onion Lasange. For smokers, the front patio offers spectacular views of the sun setting over Lorcan Avenue.
