CTA has a station at Logan Square that is actually pretty clean mostly. It doesn't look like much. Maybe the best thing is that it has multiple entrances and you can get in here all these different ways. Always has trains coming just minutes apart. This is a quick ride either to the Loop or O'Hare so a pretty good location. It gets so many riders at this station because it's a popular area. It serves the Blue Line. This is a major commuter route. A ton of people get off here. There's a need for all these entrances and they all lead to one platform. It somehow isn't all that crowded. This is one of the first stops coming from O'Hare. It's probably the first of these worth getting off if you don't live around any. There's lots of trendy coffee shops and restaurants. Fun place to get out and hang. The station itself also has some cool artwork to check out. An important area. It has lots to do around here. There's also access to busses outside the main station. read more

Sadly, my one interaction with a CTA staff member was a poor one. The $20 CTA 3-Day Pass we had picked up had expired, so it was our first time buying a 'L' train fare back to O'Hare Airport. I had done some research into the Chicago Transit Authority just over a week before our trip - bad idea. I was unfortunately too late to order a Ventra card online at https://www.ventrachicago.com/purchase/ as "Your new card will be sent within 7-10 business days." They could have shipped me a Ventra card pre-loaded with the 3 day pass, and I could have completely bypassed the $5 New Ventra card fee (which admittedly could be returned as transit value if registered within 90 days of purchase). So we ended up joining the line at the O'Hare Station to buy a flimsy paper ticket with our 3 day pass pre-loaded instead. Those flimsy paper tickets, however, can not be reloaded. And so here we were at the Logan Square station without a reloadable Ventra Card in our possession. I seemed to recollect that personal contactless bankcards may be used in the stead of a Ventra Card. But how? And would that avoid the paper ticket fee? And that's why I approached the agent box at Logan Square where I spied a staffer. But another agent saw me along the way and asked if she could help me. She commented that she was on her way off her shift, and I could tell from her attitude as we interacted that she didn't really want to be there. She laughed at my confusion and in the end told us that we should use one credit card to buy all 3 Single-Ride Ventra Tickets. Would that bypass the paper ticket surcharge, perhaps by charging us for only a single surcharge? No. We didn't see the point then, and proceeded to each buy our own for $3 ($2.25 fare + 25 cents transfer + 50 cents limited use media fee). Later, my friends told me that the agent had laughed to them that she could just slap me. I'm glad that I didn't hear that in person, as that would have made it difficult for me to continue to respond to her politely despite her own evident impatience, snarkiness, and the fact that we didn't actually find her helpful. If you didn't really want to help (especially when I wasn't approaching you anyways...), please, don't offer! read more

Out of all the train stops I've been too.I like the Logan Square stop, i've never realized the stop houses 2 entrances/exits which is why the station is so huge. Hey, I live in the suburbs and I've never got off at the stop so don't laugh at me. It's a very convient stop too and there's so many things to do when you get off, easy to access buses etc. read more

My go to bus/train station for most of my commutes especially to downtown. The benefit of the 10 to 20 minute bus trip from my house is a bonus. Also the mural art work right outside the terminal. There is always something to take in, a few coffee shops, one bar, and not to mention the gem of G Mart Comics and of course the newly renovated Logan Square theater. If the Diversey bus isn't running it is a hub for cabs/uber/lyft. You can't go wrong with the major transit hub of Logan Square. read more

It's not saying much... but amongst underground el stations in Chicago, this is one of the least bleak. Built in 1970, it's one of the newer additions to the CTA, and this particular location makes getting downtown or out of town via O'Hare airport very easy at a slick thirty minutes each way. The interior walls are tastefully built of brick, and the railbeds on either side run just moist enough to keep the rat count charmingly high (but at a safe distance). The escalators- both of them- are almost always functional and run upwards at a brisk 90 steps per minute (approximately) whether you want them to or not. That's where the positives end. The touchpads on the turnstiles are amongst the most unreliable in the city. My exasperation frequently reduces me to an overgrown infant, sighing loudly and enacting my failed card swipe with broad, sweeping gestures in the hopes that the CTA attendant will take note from their glass cage and make sure the problem gets resolved the next time. They care? About as much as they care about keeping up with the bingo scene in southwest Kansas. At least there's always at least one of five working, and sheer persistence will get you through. Above ground, it's a deathtrap. It's a suicide rap. It'll even rip the goddamn bones from your back, if you're not careful. The old adage of looking both ways before you cross the street doesn't apply when trying to Frogger ™ your way from the bleak concrete plaza to the more pedestrian-friendly streets on either side. I think there may be as many as nine possible directions from which a car can sneak up on you from around a corner and introduce you to the concept of death. Thank the spirit of General Logan and the watchful eye of the Eagle monument, I'm still alive. read more

Four stars is a lot to give this station, considering that it looks like a gas station from the outside. This stop was built at a time when people turned their back on making interesting looking small scale architecture and instead built Soviet style structures. Of course Moscow has some of the most beautiful subway systems in the world, but I just thought of that and do not have another adjective. Even the surrounding plaza which recently was spruced up with some trees is still bleak and wishing it had a fountain or team of mimes. What the Logan Square station gives up in aesthetics, however, it more than makes up for in charm and a fellowship of good manners from people who have a concept of how to behave in an urban environment. At any time of day there is a mixture of people that cannot be found too many other places. There are hipsters hopping, immigrants migrating, and first time visitors heading across the street to black out at the numerous whiskeymats. And is there a crosswalk on Kedzie for the over two million annual users of the station? No, but I soon as I have enough money in my paint budget, I will be fixing that. Still, this station is to good manners what Clark and Lake is to ignorance to urban mores. People stand to the right and walk to the left on the escalator. At street level there is a two single file lines for the east and west Diversey buses. The line is so strictly adhered to that it sometimes backs up all the way to the up escalator which creates it's own interesting problem. Four stars and three cheers for this CTA station: hip, hip, hipster. read more

From the outside, this 1970 structure is both homely and underwhelming. Compared to the more impressive above-ground entrances of the Blue Line Damen stop and even the California/Milwaukee stop, Logan is an homage to the utilitarian. Underground, however, is a completely different story. There is but one central platform and numerous escalators - one leading from the street to the first level of the stop (usually moving from bottom to top) and another leading from just past the turnstiles to the platform. And the escalators are almost never broken! The station is relatively clean - I've been there when one of the CTA employees is actually mopping. The advertisements on the side of the tunnel change pretty frequently; if you are a regular El user, I'd recommend a book, as they are not changed frequently enough to alleviate boredom. Due to recent derailment on the Blue Line, the train does not travel as fast as it used to. Build in extra time to get to your destination if you haven't yet gotten used to the new slower El. There is disappointingly little seating at the stop, in the form of granite benches. Be prepared to stand during rush hour. I personally prefer the Kedzie/Milwaukee entrance. The other entrance requires commuters to dash to the train if they are running late. I've seen many a latecomer run to the train. Didn't they learn from their teachers in elementary school that you should walk, not run, in potentially dangerous places? And with a live third rail, this el stop definitely has hidden dangers. Temperature-wise, this underground stop is almost perfect. You won't freeze in the winter or sweat through your t-shirt in the summer. Now that there is a new installation of art along the wall outside the El Station, there's even entertainment of the canned sort once you come above ground. The voices of Logan Square greet you as you walk by. I'm not kidding. Metal silhouettes, painted blue...speaking. A highly recommended el stop. read more

I'm the duchess of this station and I typically hold court here twice a day, going to and from work. It's nice to be underground on cold snowy and/or rainy days. I wish the cell service was better, but other than that, I can't complain. It's better than standing outside waiting for the train. read more

Drip ... drip ... drip ... Dodging falling water is one of the best parts of my commute! Oh boy! Also, a word to the wise: much like longcat, this platform is looooooooong. It's nice that it's underground, at least - I've been known to just cut straight through the station when walking down Milwaukee on rainy/snowy days to get out of the weather (only do this if you have a monthly/weekly pass with unlimited rides, haha). But if you're coming from the Spaulding side, the race to catch your train can be a bit crazy since the trains pull alllllllll the way up to the Kedzie side. read more

This is a great stop. It is underground, so it is warm. Plus, it isnt downtown so it doesnt smell like urine! One time I walked to the long end of the stop to see where it took me....that was strange. Finally, my favorite thing about this (please look for it) is above the stop by the bus stop. The people always line up single file to wait for the bus! I have never seen that in chicago or any major city, so grade school (and dumb in the cold weather). Sometimes it stretches all the way to the stairs and it is amazing how people respect the line. read more

It's an ugly lookin station above ground, and it has a bunch of leaks on the inside, but who cares, IT'S INDOORS. When winter and summer hit, you'll thank God you get to wait for the next train away from the wind, rain, and unbearable temperatures. It would be nice if the CTA spruced the place up a little, or commissioned some artwork, but the place is fine for now. And to all the Spaudling-side whiners: there are literally four times more people entering from Kedzie, so that's why it stops all the way to the east. read more

Pretty damn close to my house. Creepy water dripping at all times even when it has not rained in weeks... Really REALLY long so you get a morning jog if you enter in on the Spaulding side when your train is coming.... Otherwise not a bad little stop. It is indoors so that is nice in the winter or on rainy days. The lighting is terrible though. I don't really care to go much into this, but it would be nice if this station was part of the chicago transit beautification project and we got a mural or something. And no, that one painted bench is not enough beauty for the whole station. read more

Its sure as hell better then the Divison stop. But I had a friend, a few years ago who was attacked and almost thrown onto the tracks by some crazy man. Everything is okay now though, we got that really bright and diverse public mural, that'll keep the crazies out. read more

The escalator has been broken FOREVER! Its a narsty little L stop. But a lot of the underground ones are gross. Thankfully the CTA are handling that issue one at a time. read more

I like the Kimball entrance, much closer than the Kedzie entrance for me. I like that it's underground. I prefer a subway to an EL format given Chicago weather. I wish the actual train stopped more in the middle instead of at the Kedzie side. That would make it more convenient for us from the west side of the square. The decor could use a lot of help. Talk about a typical '60's utilitarian type design. Oh well its my new subway home for the foreseeable future. read more

I don't know why I don't use this stop more often. Since the Blue Line is under construction during off-peak hours and weekends, riders are forced to use this station as their end all be all. It is not to inconvenient if you are heading down Milwaukee as you can just jump on the #56 to continue your ride. They also offer a shuttle bus that will take you on your way to the Western Blue Line stop so you can continue your ride at no charge for the "transfer". You can expect minor delays but construction is a sign of growth, bigger and better things to come. A little patience won't hurt anyone. read more
