More Than Just a Library…read more Peninsula Center Library was the very first library I visited when I moved to the Los Angeles South Bay, and over the years, this place has been through a LOT with me. I've used it during periods of unemployment, for booking study rooms while interviewing for jobs, and simply as a quiet place to sit, read, think, or get some work done. It has become one of those places that holds a lot of memories for me. First, the building itself deserves some appreciation. The modern design and huge windows that let in so much natural light are a must for me. Walking into a bright library just makes my day better. There's also an underground parking structure, although it's limited, and I especially appreciate it on those hot South Bay days when having my car parked in the shade makes a difference. I also LOVE the Friends of the Library sales. They have highly discounted books, CDs, DVDs, and -- my personal favorite -- PUZZLES! The larger monthly book sales are especially fun because they open up the big room and have a much bigger selection. I've bought countless books and puzzles here over the years. I've participated in their reading program, too, and the staff have always been helpful. More recently, work has made this location less convenient for me, so I don't get here nearly as often as I used to. I now visit Katy Geissert Civic Center Library more often simply because of convenience. I used to come here 2-3 times a week, and now I'm probably here around 2-4 times a month. It honestly makes me a little sad because I still love this library. The library's online/app services have also been incredibly useful. I've used them to reserve study rooms and place holds on books without having to make an extra trip. And speaking of study rooms -- these have been a lifesaver. Whether I need somewhere quiet and private to focus on work or a reliable place to take a virtual job interview, being able to reserve a room has been incredibly valuable to me. I also love the bookmark contests! I get to see the creativity of local kids, and some of their artwork is seriously impressive -- sometimes downright jaw-dropping. I love grabbing a free bookmark on my way out. At this point, my typical library visit feels like: walk in for a book, walk out with a book AND a bookmark. The kids' area also looks like such a fun space, even though I don't personally use it. Overall, I love the staff, programs, resources, architecture, and just the general vibe of Peninsula Center Library. It has been much more than a place to check out books for me. It has been a quiet refuge, a workspace, an interview space, a place to discover books, and occasionally a place to find a great puzzle for a few dollars. Even though I don't visit as frequently as I used to, this library will always have a special place in my South Bay story. And yes -- I'll probably keep coming back for those Friends of the Library sales and puzzles.

When I stop to browse the paintings & photography, it's like a little indulgent break in the middle of the day that I didn't know I needed. I always leave just a tad bit happier :). I had been a DACA recipient for years and was a loyal customer to this downtown lawyer. I even interned for the man thinking that I could learn a thing or two to help my people. Also, I thought that he would have my best interest at heart and help me achieve my dream of becoming a US Citizen. He even promised me that he would do everything in his power to help make that a reality. Those were nothing but broken promises. Because of him and his incompetent staff, my DACA expired in 2021, and I was out of work for a month living off of my savings, even when I implored him and his staff to help me expedite my case. They never replied to my emails and every time I called, they told me that he would call me back, but he never did. I was never able to reach him, but my checks surely cleared immediately. If he did this to someone who was not afraid to make some noise, my heart breaks for all of those people who are too afraid to do the same in fear that they might compromise their American Dream. I knew that I had to make a change, so I looked up immigration attorneys near me and found Cynthia. Thanks to the many good reviews, I made the decision to switch attorney's and it was the best decision that I have ever made. From the beginning, she made me feel valued and important. She doesn't have a fancy office or a whole staff dedicated to brewing her coffee, but what she does have is COMPASSION. She sees you; she helps you, she puts YOU first, and not your money. Going back to the story... I was desperate to get my DACA renewed so I wrote to Maxine Waters, Alex Padilla, and Diane Feinstein and asked them for help. Cynthia encouraged me to do this and even submitted an expedite request on my behalf. During this time, there was a lot of case backlog so many people were in the same sinking boat. I don't know if it was Cynthia's energy, my persistence, or timing, but shortly afterwards, my DACA was finally renewed, and I was able to go to work. Things were finally starting to look up... I came to Cynthia with my approved I-130, a lapsed DACA, and damaged dreams. With Cynthia, my advanced parole and I-485 were approved and I finally obtained my green card in December 2022. I can't wait to come back to her in three years to apply for citizenship in order finally make my dream come true.

I am now a proud permanent resident of the US and I could not have done it without her. I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for an amazing immigration attorney. I already had TSA PreCheck, but after a long international flight, the last thing I want to do is stand in a long customs line. The application process was surprisingly easy. I completed everything online and received conditional approval in about a day. After that, I was able to schedule an interview at the Global Entry office near LAX. The office itself was conveniently located right off the freeway, with easy parking directly out front. Once I arrived, the process was just as smooth. They asked for my passport and a few basic questions about myself. The interview was very brief, and I was probably in and out in about 15 minutes. At the end, I was told I was approved and that my Global Entry card would arrive in the mail within about a week. The real payoff came when I returned from my international trip. They used facial recognition, and I basically just walked through the gates and breezed right back into the United States. After a long flight, that convenience alone made the entire process worth it. Overall, my experience with Global Entry was easy, efficient, and incredibly pleasant. Definitely glad I signed up.

Wow, I haven't actually typed out a review on a PC in like, at least 12 years…read more Gosh, I even had to pull up my Yelp password. My situation is that my family and I are avid skiers/snowboarders. (Steamboat once/every year and Mammoth at least 3x/ever year) I know the IKON pass has created exponential travel opportunities to the famous 'japow' slopes in Hokkaido for non-natives within the past 3-4 years. We've earnestly prepared ourselves from a feasibility point of view to do this trip this upcoming Winter '25. We've looked into our kid's school to understand what we need to go on a 2 week trip to Japan. The wife has ensured she would start making sure her work would be blocked out during those 2 weeks. I actually have an email from my supervisor confirming I could take the 2 weeks off during that time. We've saved/scrimped this past spring/summer by not taking our 'normal' vacations and we are now at the point to pull the trigger on flights/hotels/tour packages/etc. But we have no experience traveling to Japan and I wanted this trip to be perfect. (Don't just rely on whatever I've read on Reddit.) It just so happened at my church, a fellow churchgoer had an amazing trip just this past summer and he was showing me pics on his phone/telling me tales about how he and his large family had headed over, how everything was perfect and amazing. I asked that million $ question, "how did you book it?" He actually recommended Nippon Travel Agency to me and I was so stoked, because for some reason it hadn't crossed my mind to use a travel agency. (* The pic of this review is proof that this place was referred to me by a churchgoer friend of mine. Some of you naysayers can say, 'oh, anyone can create that on photoshop.'. But the way their corporate signature is laid out, they will know I'm not making this up. Clearly this review is mostly for the ownership.) So the following Tuesday, I called and asked for help to plan the trip. The lady who answered the phone said she would transfer me after I explained my purpose. Unfortunately, the transfer dropped the call. I called back to the same lady, she tried to transfer me, and it happened again. The call dropped. The third time I called back, it was another lady. She sounded annoyed that I called back and she asked me what I was looking for, which was to book a trip to Japan for family and myself. I asked if I could make an appointment at their office so I could come in since it's less than a 15m drive from my work. She sternly advised me that no one comes into their office and everything must be done through email. She told me to send it to support@ntaamerica.com. I sent the request 8 days ago and crickets. Not one response back.

When my order was ready for pickup, I received an email to confirm that the order was ready. The office is easy to find. It's located in a large building in Gardena with plenty of parking spaces in its parking lot. The office itself is located on the 6th floor of the building right when you exit the elevators. The office is quite small and no one is staffing the front area, but there is a phone on the table at the entrance with instructions on how to reach someone. I appreciated that they had sanitizing wipes and sanitizers next to the phone to keep things clean. I dialed the number on the instructions and a woman on the other line immediately picked up, verified my name, and brought my order out. The woman was super friendly and helpful. She gave me each of the vouchers and confirmed that all the names were printed correctly, gave me guidance around exchanging the vouchers and activating them at the station. She also gave me some guides for JR and Japan in general. Overall a very smooth experience!
