The CSUDH Library is really nice, I mean really really nice. When I first started going there, Dominguez Hills started building it. The old side of the library is just that, OLD. But they did fixed up the old part of the main floor of the old library, putting in a coffee shop, a studying area, and a place to lounge around and surf the internet on your laptop. The new part of the library as I said is really nice. A bunch of computer labs, private meeting/study rooms, tables, info desk, and etc. There is also a patio on the ground area next to the walkway from the old area to the new area. There is also a sun deck on the 4th floor (3rd floor of the new library) with chairs and such (enjoy sunbathing). The 5th floor is the cultural area/study area which I got to check out before they closed it off to students. It was like a mini-museum which also has tables to study.

Out with the old in with the new

Great place to study just make sure you are packed up and ready to go if you choose to stay until closing. The library staff will start ushering people out before closing time & will hover uncomfortably until you acknowledge their presence. All in all great place if you don't mind the pushy staff.

The children's section is particularly impressive, featuring a massive selection of reading materials and a dedicated playground area that keeps kids entertained. It is the perfect local spot for a productive afternoon or a fun family outing. The weekly programming is fantastic, especially the monthly Chinese story time. We recently attended a session led by Lily, who was wonderful with the children. She used a great mix of storytelling about caterpillars and fruit along with high-energy songs and movement. It was such a joy to watch my granddaughter get involved and follow along with all the actions. The facility is very well-designed for convenience, including the easy underground parking right beneath the building. Whether you are looking for a quiet place to read or an engaging activity for the grandkids, this library is a true gem in the Peninsula area. It's a wonderful community resource that we look forward to visiting every week.

Staff informed me that I was being banned from all public libraries because they believed I had smoked in a study room. This accusation is false. Additionally, when a fire alarm went off, I was blamed for the incident without any evidence and was asked to leave the library. As a result, I received a ban from all public library locations. I do not believe this decision was fair, as I was not involved in any of the actions I was accused of. Also every time I went in I was always looked at even when I turned the corner they will have someone go and see what I was doing even though I'll be on my phone playing my video games or doing my homework every time I looked up there was someone just staring at me and it made me really uncomfortable especially that I am minor my experience at the Michelle Obama neighborhood library was absolutely horrible and I would not recommend unless you want to be falsely accused of and being followed around and stared at.

Their children's area has an impressive "Comic Book" graphic novel and collected editions area with a lot of titles and books by Marvel, DC, super heroes and non-hero literature. I'd venture to guess they should and might have some Anime and Manga too. As of June/July 2026 the library has the front main entry that looks like it's "closed" due to construction and when you walk in, it's dimly lit and often empty looking as if it's closed, but they're open and I get a sense it's going to be a spectacular renovation They do have a Summer Reading Program focused for the kids to avoid that "Summer Slouch" of education, with bonus incentive prizes for reading.
