Honestly as a library, amazing! I live in long Beach and didn't even go to csulb and they had free wifi for guests. The major major negative though is that parking is paid for and is such a major pain to find. The walk is really far from the paid parking and I tried to find free parking but couldn't find any. I used to love the graduate level floor, but it has been very loud lately. Looking for a quiet place to read or study, look elsewhere.

This is a fantastic place to study in the early mornings before class. I am a big fan of the first floor computer lab since there are more than enough computers available. Great for taking an online test or tackling some last minute studying between classes. PROS: The Starbucks is right inside on the first floor! Printers on site to for all your printing needs. Comfortable chairs too. Staff on site is ready to assist with any research needs. The air conditioner is a life saver during hot days. CONS: The library can get noisy sometimes especially when there are groups working on a project or students taking phone calls. Computer stations can be a bit messy so carry some wet wipes to wipe down your station. Good luck to everyone on their courses this semester! read more

Creepy dude is still at the front desk! I graduated from here a couple of years ago and stopped by campus for paperwork and decided to walk in the library. The creepy dude that two friends told me about is still working there. He meets female students by "chance" at the same time and date outside of their classes and begins to become friendly. Both friends told me that he tried to be too friendly and he got the hint that they didn't want anything to do with him. So he stopped showing at their classes. Ends up that since he works at the library, he could access their class schedule. So, if he saw a cute girl, he would "happen" to run into them outside of their class. Description of dude: early 40s (now), Asian, short, bushy eyebrows, dark hair with some gray and always smiling. read more

I love how they re-did the 5th floor. So many more tables and outlets. The library has very friendly staff who are incredibly helpful when you're having trouble. I just like having a place where I can find a table and sprawl all my stuff out. All the odd numbered floors and the basement are noisy. The even floors are quiet. The noisy floors never get super rowdy which I appreciate. And everyone knows how to keep the tables and floors clean. read more

CSULB Library - Libraries Near Me - Long Beach, California

Peak occupancy hours seems to be around noon until 3 or 4ish. All the study areas are in open spaces with some comfy chairs near the windows and 4person tables in rows that have chairs that are like...worn out, gross, and probably covered in loads of people's bacterial flora. Then you have individual studying tables in the vicinity of the stacks. 5th floor has the biggest capacity for studying but its usually loud because some people apparently have no where else to hang out so they do it in a library. I have witnessed on multiple occasions that a group will sit down and take out their materials but start chatting for a good 2 hours before anyone opens their stuff. Then in another half hour they all get up to leave. wow...seriously. CSULB needs to like add group study rooms that can be checked out. Environmental noise like talking is guaranteed to be distracting or disruptive no matter how anyone claims that it has no effect on them. read more

If you go here and have not checked out the library there may be alot you may be missing. Tucked away towards 7th street is where it lies. after the redevelopments this place is better than ever. My review is for the first floor, the second and third floor will be updated in the coming weeks. What does the first floor have to offer? Plenty of computers to log on to, like the Horn center but with a freaking library on top of it. Also, many great cushioned sofa's and large wooden tables in the back area, perfect for studying/spreading out materials and great for groups (just dont talk to loud). Between here and the coffeeshop, also in the library I completed alot of studying. The second and thier floors were always quited places to study. They also had computers up there so you can search for a library book and even use self-checkout with your ID card via the scan machine. They made changes after redevelopment, which I will examine more next week, I look forward to updating my review. read more

With the internet being so accessible and coffee shops as study areas, I feel libraries are under appreciated. The CSULB library is one that I feel many of the students appreciate. From the accessible Starbucks to the numerous computers available, this place is happening! I have never seen so many students in the library. Wow, they must be as studious as me! Haha, seriously though. The library is full of great resources! The staff is very helpful in locating items, but also helping with any questions. They are all helpful and informative. It is a great place to get papers done! If you're looking for a quiet area, the 2nd floor is where you need to go! The 5th floor has great table space for groups. During the beginning and middle of the semester, it gets packed, which is expected for a university campus. There are many floors, and plenty of spaces to study/sleep. On the first floor, there's the computer center which is actually pretty organized with the waitlist being digital. However, I wish they cleaned the keyboards and mice more often since they can be sticky. Gross. Top floor has a lot of group study areas where noise is permitted, but there's still plenty of noise on the other levels too, which can get annoying. One other thing is that there are not enough plugs in areas with individual desks. That should be fixed, IMO, especially since a lot of people store notes/pdfs/lectures on laptops or tablets now. Oh, if students need programs for classes, there's an area right at the entrance to the library (on the left, right when you pass the...metal detector? Book detector? Whatever that thing is). By just swiping your ID card you can get most class-associated software like MiniTab. read more

2nd and 4th floor are quiet floors where you get work done. The basement, 3rd and 5th are non-quiet aka no one actually does work here. They just come to "do work" but end up talking the whole time. Outlets are only available at the tables by a wall or pillar, and those are usually always taken. If you need an outlet, you either have to share a table or keep an eye out for when people leave and swoop in! Starbucks on the 1st floor which is awesome because then you can decide if you do need caffeine later. Also, it's nice because you can bring whatever food you want and eat at the library! I just wish they had a library on lower campus, because the walk is SO FAR from lower campus. And it gets super packed during the day! You can take the shuttle during the fall and spring semesters to the library, but the all campus one is only from 7pm to midnight. The east loop shuttle will get you close to the library, though at the McIntosh building. read more

Parking is NOT free. I followed a review on here and got a $50 ticket. Parking does suck if you get to the library around 5-7....but spots open up after that. But I'm glad I was able to find a place to study even though I wasn't a student or alumni. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Perfect place to focus. read more

I have spent many hours in this library. This library has changed since the very first time I came to CSULB. I love the 1st floor with all computers available to use (four hour limit) and print papers. There is also a Starbucks with many tables to sit and enjoy a drink while surfing the net or watch the news on the large tvs they have. I spend most of my time on the 3rd and 5th floors. These are the group study floors where you can work in groups or if you choose, you can grab a private desk. There are plenty of tables as well as comfy chairs to lounge on. During finals the library is open 24 hrs and people literally stay here all night long. They no longer allow blankets and "camping out" though. The staff here are always friendly and willing to help out with anything you may need. This is my go to study spot. read more

Great study spot and open to the public. Closest parking lot is off W. Campus Drive right off of 7th Street. If you're coming from 7th street it will be your first lot on your right hand side. Great library to study 24/7 during finals week at CSULB. Although you will have no access to WiFi if you are not a student here. Has a Starbucks on the 1st floor, which is an amazing feature that we don't have at Chapman University. It's also great that they have quiet floors (2nd and 4th floor) and a group study floor (5th floor). Some tables don't have outlets though, which I find inconvenient for some students like me, who need their laptops to study. But the desks here are large enough to fit all my shizz. At the end of the day, I feel that I am able to focus and study here when I don't feel like going to my own school or my house. *Note: Parking without a pass, $5/day. read more

This is a pretty good library, it could improve in a few areas though. staff: I don't interact with the staff too much, but when I've needed something from them they are always there to help (specifically, the computer area staff do a good job). cleanliness: This place isn't filthy, but it could be cleaner. The desks and tables need to be cleaned more often or at least better. Especially on the third and fourth floor, the desks set around the perimeter of the floor are often very dirty - with coffee stains, sticky leftovers, and sometimes completely spilled drinks. And when I come back a few days later, the same desk(s) are still dirty. noise: Usually quiet enough, but there is always one jackass making a little noise, even in the quiet areas. The staff would do well to patrol the floors every now and then to make sure no one needs to be kicked out (I wish they would do this). And see complaint below. note: Avoid this place during finals and midterms, there will always be more than a few people not minding the library etiquette. It isn't such a nice nor quiet place during these times. It can also be difficult to find seating during these times. research: They have professional librarians (no they are not hot) standing by to help you with research. I've only used this service once, but the librarian was so helpful, so knowledgeable, I wish I got to interact with the research staff more often. They will help you find whatever paper or journal you are looking for. It doesn't matter if the journal isn't free, or if the paper is obscure, they will get it for you. note: The research desks are not always open even when the library is, so check their hours if that is what you need. caffeine: Yes, they serve this. The bottom floor has a Starbucks, its hours more or less reflect the hours of the library (but if you come on the weekend, or later in the day, you might not have access to Starbucks). The Starbucks is clean and well run. They also have seating for probably about 30-40 people, lot's of space. people: Not bad, but again, there is always one bad apple on every floor. view: The view from the fourth floor is quiet nice - it overlooks the large grassy area that is the heart of the campus. Late in the evening there are groups of birds hanging out on the roof of the building directly north of the library, they compliment the view and help me to relax. books: There sure are a lot of books here! Not sure why, seems like they hardly get used at all. But it is always nice to procrastinate a little by pulling a random book off the shelf and taking a look. My favorite so far... an entire book on the scientific study of bird song. And if that isn't enough, there are several books on Guinea Pigs in case that is what you need. maps: There is a cartography section in the basement area, take a look. They have all sorts of weird useless maps that you'll never need (including a topographical globe of the moon). Good times! seating: There are plenty of desks and tables. People often forget the basement area, head down there if you can't find seating. note: There is always seating at this library except during finals and midterms. You should avoid the library during those times. hours: Not bad, especially during the school year. When school is not in session they close on Sundays and their hours are shortened a bit. The research desks are not always open even when the library is, so check their hours if that is what you need. They are open all day and night during finals too. complaint: The staff that work in the offices on the fourth floor are loud! They are in their own rooms, but their voices can often be heard through the glass. There is no way they are talking at a normal volume in there. There is one specific office I am talking about (on the far north-west side of the fourth floor) - but the other staff could exercise a bit more thoughtfulness as well. read more

This library has so many great recourses for students, and was I place I definitely took advantage of during my time here. The library has 6 stories (including the basement), with two quiet floors if you really need to focus. On the 1st floor, there is a giant computer lab which I used often when I did not want to bring my laptop or when I just needed to kill some time. There are usually always some spots open, but if you do have to wait it isn't too long. They have PC's, Macs, and group study areas, all with printers available. This is such an amazing recourse to students and is one of the biggest computer labs on campus. Also on the 1st floor they have a Starbucks, which is very smart to have in a library for those days when you need some study encouragement. Throughout the different floors of the library, there are so many tables, comfy chairs, and individual work stations available for people to use. It can be super difficult to find a place to sit during finals week, but it is open 24 hours, which is seems to be helpful for many students. Whether you are hanging out with friends on the 5th floor, or cramming for a test on the 2nd floor, this library is great for everyone. read more

This is honestly one of the best libraries of all the colleges in the OC and SoCal area. I have no idea why some people have rated this anything less than 4 stars -- maybe for the disappointment they received because they couldn't deal with patience or certain people. as a student, the library has so many resources beyond the obvious. they are so many tables and outlets for students to charge and just sit down and work. one thing i have to comment is that even though the tables might get fulled quickly, people are always willing to share an open seat with you so its possible to sit at a table of 4 with 4 different people that aren't in a group. the AC is always a plus too on a hot day. the floors are divided so that the even floors (2,4) are quiet floors while the others (0,1,3,5) are collaborative study (you can be as loud as you want). parking might be a little difficult since this is part of a california state university, and i unfortunately don't know how it would work if you were not a student (how to get onto campus, where to park). definitely recommend this as a great place to study or jus to hang out with friends and even grab a bite. the hours are very flexible and in addition, very reasonable. of course there are peak times but like i said, even then, there will always be a spot for you even if youre looking for a nap. read more

In the summer this place is a haven because of it's air conditioning. I hardly use the library as a resource and its a pity because it's open late, there are plenty of computers to use, and you have access to the printers. I like that during finals week the library is open 24hrs. The odd floors are group study and the even floors are quiet study. The bathrooms are located on the opposite side of the floor through two doors. Only thing that can get annoying in the quiet study is when someone is sick and they're dying right next to you with their coughing or sneezing. It gets really distracting! read more

yay for unsanitary public computers! If you could have seen the candy wrappers, dirty klenex and food crumbs that get left behind by the people before you...you would cringe just like me! I like this library though because there's lot of ample space for studying and doing homework. There's a couple "quiet-zones" and noise/food permitted floors. I do like the electronic queue system if you want to sign up to use one of the computers. Even on those busy days, like M-T 10:30am-3:30pm, the wait for a workstation is never more than five minutes. Just make sure you put some anti-bacterial sanitizer on your hands after using the desktops lol Solid WiFi connectivity throughout the library and there is also a Starbucks on the first floor. The whole library is also a dead zone for cellular reception though, so save your snapchats, and nude selfies for the privacy for your own home! read more

My favorite library. Why? Free wifi, spacious, lots of tables and chairs, starbucks and convenience store next door, you can eat wherever you want, and it's quiet! Great place to come and study Currently they are renovating the 5th floor so the 3rd floor is temporarily the new 5th (the new loud floor). Also the parking lot behind the theater building is also being renovated so it may be hard to find a spot. Great place to study on Sundays (12pm-12am) not too busy - Much easier to focus on studying here over anywhere else I have tried. Every floor to this place is different! On the first floor, everyone is able to chill at the Starbucks, use the computers lab, or simply print out some homework The next two floors are just filled with tables so students can study their little hearts out. I believe it is the top floor that is very strict! Students must have their phones turned OFF (not even on vibrate). This floor is so quiet you can almost hear your own thoughts. I can never stay on this floor too long because I am clumsy and will make noise anyway. Best believe that all of these floors are put to use during Finals! If you need to study and not be interrupted, this library is for you! read more

After the Rec Center, The library is my favorite place to pass the time on campus. There is a floor for every type of studying and I have even met people there studying on a Thursday evening to end up at a party at night. The third floor is the party floor. I am not personally a fan of Starbucks but I recognize the genius of having on at the bottom floor. Many students rely on that caffeine boost to get through their studies. I spend most of my time there on the computers at the bottom floor. Ill hop on FB and play tetris if I have 30 minutes free before class. Its also relaxed environment for students to nap if they need some z' s to earn those A's. Go Beach! read more

This is a damn nice library. If more students would use it, they may actually like the library. I don't tend to use the library while students are in finals or even on campus, but it's relatively easy going outside of busy periods. It's set-up is rather nice and not convoluted. There are a lot of spaces, outside the stacks that are kept quiet and allow for solid uninterrupted work. I much prefer this library to CSUF. read more

This library is pretty nice but it can get pretty crowded during the afternoon. I usually study here in the evenings but try to avoid coming anytime before that. It's also hard finding a plug when using an individualized desk. Also, the computers are always being used in the mornings and afternoons and the wait can be long (which is why I have to take my laptop to the library but can never find a plug!) I wish they had longer hours on weekends. On Fridays and Saturdays, the're only open till 5. I wish there was another library on campus. This library has a Starbucks, which is pretty cool. read more

Honestly, it is a good library when there is no school. There are bunch of noisy and annoying students who don't deserve to be in this school. When the library sign stated, "quiet room" that means be quiet. I guess they don't understand English. Love studying at this library! It has so many levels and is well organized. Each floor is either a quiet floor, or a group floor (where you can talk, study and socialize). There's a Starbucks on the first floor so you can stock up on caffeine. Computers are also on the first floor if you need to print or just use a computer. During finals, this place gets crazy packed! The library becomes a home for scholars! They are open 24 hours during finals and will offer tooth brushes and other toiletries to students who plan on staying overnight in the library. I love studying here! Oh yeah, wi-fi is only free if you are a student at CSULB. Sounds fair, right? read more

The front desk is extremely helpful in providing me information on how to find articles, journals or even a text in a hard copy book, online! I also love that the library is open until midnight during the week. I do wish it was open til midnight on weekends but not everyone likes to stay in and study on a Friday night. Plenty of outlets and the Starbucks as well as Beach Hut next door to give you a caffeine fix. read more

The library needs better wifi, period. I can BARELY maintain wifi connection higher than the second floor. Working on the 4th floor - the quiet floor, where I prefer to work, is nearly impossible because of the poor wifi signal. Faculty - you really need to solve this issue. Love the library when it goes 24/7 during finals week because of its convenience and the coffee but it gets crowded real quick and finding parking can get ridiculous. I am a grad student. I think we all know that means... I spend an ungodly amount of time in this library. Like, too many hours during the school year to count. I love the fact that a computer is always available for me to use. The desk staff is super helpful. The study area is quiet and peaceful. There is a Starbucks for when you need a caffiene fix. Printing is only .10cents a page. I LOVE coming here to study and write papers. In fact, I come here in place of working in my own home. Filthy horrible place. The tables, I can swear on it, are never cleaned for weeks. In fourth floor, they placed trash cans just next to tables, and rude inconsiderate students put their smelly lunches in there - the whole level would smell. I really hate coming here, but got no other place to go. read more
