Grifols Talecris - Plasma Donation Center

Since then, they have changed the rules so you have to make an appointment every single time...the wait time has been significantly reduced since they started doing that. Everyone I have encountered at the center is friendly and willing to answer questions. I enjoy going to Talecris twice a week to a) get out of the house, and b) make a little bit of extra money. It is important to remember to eat a balanced meal both the day before and the day of your donation and to drink plenty of water. If you eat really fatty foods before donating, they may not be able to use your plasma...so be conscious of what you put in your body. Also be sure to rehydrate yourself well afterwards. It's not like donating blood...they don't provide any snacks or juice (although they do have vending machines).

The staff has become increasingly incompetent, with inexperienced technicians who jab your arm blindly. When they fail to get a proper flow, they simply blame it on the donor having 'bad veins.' I returned today after recovering from the flu, only to have two inexperienced techs repeatedly probe my vein. Even when the machine alerted them of a poor flow, their only solution was to jab me further. I eventually had to refuse when they tried to move to my left arm. To make matters worse, they seem to have changed their pay structure. Compensation used to be for your time, but now it seems to be based solely on the volume collected. Last year, a technician blew my vein and caused a severe hematoma (see attached pictures). You're better off doing DoorDash than letting these 'pretend' technicians play with your health.

I have been a consistent donor at this center since 2022 and have completed nearly 100 donations. Despite this long-term relationship, I have been subjected to disrespectful treatment by staff, and my previous complaints have received no response. Most recent incident: I arrived at approximately 11:00 a.m. I was screened promptly and waited about ten minutes for a bed even though the center did not appear busy. Because I am a hard stick and other floor phlebotomists have repeatedly failed to access my veins successfully--resulting in digging in my arm, no flow, high-pressure returns, incomplete donations, and leaving with only $12 instead of full compensation--I specifically requested that Titi (the employee over the floor, screeners, and productivity) stick me. I was told she was on lunch. I stated that I was willing to wait. The office staff member (a manager whose name I do not know) refused, stating that allowing me to wait would "mess up my times" and that I would be stuck by whoever was available on the floor. Approximately five minutes later, Titi appeared on the donor floor, put on her lab coat, called a donor, and stuck him. She then told another donor, in front of other donors, that she no longer sticks request donors "because I don't have to," delivering the statement with a visibly negative attitude. I felt singled out, disrespected, and hurt. The claim that Titi was on lunch was contradicted by her almost immediate return to the floor and her willingness to stick other donors while refusing my reasonable request for a competent stick. Prior complaints and lack of response: This is not an isolated event. I have previously submitted formal complaints by email and phone concerning negative experiences with phlebotomists and managers at this center, including the pattern of staff picking and choosing which donors to assist and treating hard-stick donors poorly. Those complaints described treatment that left me feeling hurt and disrespected. To date, I have received no return call, email, acknowledgment, or indication that any investigation has taken place. Personal impact: As a long-term donor who has reliably contributed nearly 100 times since 2022, I expected basic respect and professional handling of a reasonable request. Instead, I have been made to feel like an inconvenience. The combination of the treatment on the floor and the complete silence following my prior complaints has personally affected me. I am now seriously considering leaving this center. Requested action: I request that this complaint, together with my prior unanswered complaints, be thoroughly investigated. Specifically, I ask for: Written confirmation that the complaints have been received and logged. An investigation into the staff conduct described, including the refusal to allow me to wait for a specific phlebotomist who was present in the building and the public statements that request donors would no longer be accommodated. Appropriate corrective action to ensure donors are treated with basic respect and professionalism. A written response outlining the status of the investigation and any actions taken. I am available to provide additional details if needed. Please respond in writing so that there is a clear record of communication. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I first started donating as a good friend needed plasma transfusions due to a medical disorder and it felt nice to be able to help people in need. The money was also a nice help with bills of course. In my experience over the years everyone there is always friendly (unless you get belligerent with them, which is not tolerated in the center thankfully) and willing to chat a little as you get hooked up. My boyfriend and I have tattoos also and have not found anyone insulting us or complaining about them as a previous reviewer stated. We go there at varying times of the day and have NEVER seen any high employees, or employees yelling at eachother on the floor as a previous reviewer stated either. Anytime we're there, the staff either talks amongst themselves or to the donors, and there's a very casual feeling on the floor. It's not stuffy like a hospital or doctors office, and it's a nice change of pace to feel comfortable and normal like everyone else there. Some of the conversations can get rowdy depending on what donors are there, but nothing over the line or rude, it's just like hanging out with friends. Overall I'd recommend Octapharma to anyone who's willing to donate. Signing up for the first time is a lengthy process, but donating isn't bad if you listen to the instructions and don't half-ass it. Drink lots of water. Eat high protein foods. Pump your fist when the cuff tightens. It takes me about 35 minutes to finish donating, and if no one is in line maybe 5-10 minutes at most for us to get checked in, and my boyfriend takes about 45 minutes to donate.

This time, there were 2 people working in the whole place. 9 people in vitals line and more already done with vitals waiting to be stuck. Utter ridiculousness. How can you staff 2 people?!
