The smell of the combination of different broths and foods filled the air. It did make the room a bit warm but that's to be expecting in a room filled with boiling pots. After sitting down, we were quickly explained how to order on the menu and left alone. We ended up with a dual pot of hot and spicy broth and of tom yum kung broth. I'd like all of the meats and vegetables we ordered but it's best to say that the options were plentiful and I was able to get fresh shellfish. Yes, I could even get seasonal crab, razor clam, and scallop. It didn't take very long for the pot of broths to come out, along with the giant plate of foods we ordered to go along with it. I'm a big eater and even this looked overwhelming to me. And the quality of food matched the quantity. All of the vegetables were clearly freshly cut and the shellfish was clearly fresh. It was a very fun experience to cook foods in the pot. Occasionally they'd come around to add more water to the pot as it boiled off. They also offered to bring us more food. I never needed it but it was good to know I could get it. In hindsight I could have used more crab because it was clearly worth the price on its own. I really would want to go back. It's not exactly a cheap place but at £16.99 per person it was such a good experience that I'd happily go back.

I ate so much fish, even more than when I was at those restaurants I had in China! They also give Chinese lots of other genuine Chinese food as an add-on for free: steamed buns, roasted beef, chicken feet, ice cream.... Lots of appetizers! We had great memories at this restaurant. Prawn crackers were put on the table before drinks were orders but after the menus had been handed to us. My starter was chicken noodle soup which was delicious. I often have this without feeling the need to season it, however, this time I used lots of pepper and soya sauce. It's a nice way to eat it once in a while. My choice of main was chicken curry and boiled rice. I cannot complement the curry in here enough, it is so good I have boiled rice to appreciate the curry more. I think in terms of a Chinese curry it is perfect. Spicy but not overly so, and just a great combination of chicken onions and the occasional pea. The consistency of this dish is also great, I've eaten it many times and can't remember feeling dissatisfied with it. Desert was a banana fritter which was nice if a bit overindulgent for lunch on a work day. However, if you don't have it the cost is the same. All in all friendly atmosphere and a great lunch. It isn't a showy as other Chinese or oriental restaurants, even at dinner time, but for great food it is hard to beat and I know I'll be back in a heartbeat.

It is spicy, and when I say spicy I mean hot, I mean, you will need to keep some bog roll in the fridge for the day after hot. The place itself looks like you've walked straight into the kitchen of a nice Chinese family. There is only one real table, which will sit around 4 people and some stools around the sides where you can perch yourself on. They will play classic Chinese pop tunes through the mini hifi and offer you free Chinese biscuits and crackers as you wait. I must say, I felt right at home as soon as I walked in! The menu, well, it couldn't really be simpler. There is only one real option on the menu and that is this spicy Szechuanese style soup with various veggies, fish balls, meat balls, glass noodles and rice noodles. The Szechuan peppercorns actual numb the mouth, its quite an interesting sensation. So to begin with you will be asked to select how hot you want it, there are 3 options. Mild (i.e spicy), then the next level up is spicy (i.e. Christ on a bike that is bloomin' hot) and very spicy (imminent death, do not eat). I think there are two sizes also, you can get the full boonah which includes a giant, mutant like king prawn or you can go for the dish without the mutant, for £2 less (for £2 its worth a look, trust me). You will be asked if there is any particular veggie or meat or fish ball that you don't like and they will do the rest. The oddness continues when the dish arrived on a plastic covered dish! Why?? Having recently come back from Hong Kong I have realised that basically everything is different over there, so it best to just go with the flow and don't question it. The food itself was very nice, but nothing out of this world. Lots of fresh veggies in a flavoursome, hot stock. The fish and meat balls make the dish rather stodgy, so if it looks a tad small at first you will be stuffed by the end. I ordered aubergine and pork with rice for £7.50 and was really impressed - a big portion and really filled me up after a day of drinking. Staff were friendly, the vibe was relaxed and the price was very reasonable. Even including a couple of beers I think it was about £12 each. I'll definitely be back.
