My opinion of the Bothell Crystal Springs Cooperative Preschool has always been good, even great, since I have been a parent there since 1983 since Senator Patty Murray started this location. She was an excellent teacher, as well as Gretchen, the other teacher we had and loved. More recently, in 2016, I enrolled with my granddaughter, who was in my daily care. I loved all the parents, and the other grandparent who came also. The children and parents all liked me and my granddaughter, and we had an enjoyable experience with all of them for 1-1/2 years. HOWEVER....... I feel I need to warn any other grandparent who would in the future join this preschool, only if Dorothy is still the teacher when they join. I later learned from a S.C.C. source that this teacher had only a Business Degree and NO Teaching Degree at all. She has 3 teenage boys and was hired probably on her years of being a parent there. Everyone assumes a teacher needs a Master's Degree, or at the very least a Teaching Degree. These preschools were formed on the premise that parents are included and every child is accepted, based on "cooperative" skills. Except for my terrible experiences between my granddaughter and Dorothy, I have nothing bad to say about the program. Dorothy, for some unknown reason, had a very "threatened" attitude toward not only me, but the other grandparent (s). It was as if, because we had more experience than she, only actual parents were to feel welcome. In our world today, 30% of grandparents play an important role in raising their grandchildren. My granddaughter was 3-4 years old when we were there, and because of Dorothy forcing very strict rules on her ("you HAVE to eat snack, even if you're not hungry", "you have to go potty when I say so, even if you don't have to go.") my granddaughter was confused and ended up in tears on many occasions. With my own kids, preschool was supposed to be FUN, and was never so regimented! My granddaughter suffered when we were "kicked out" because Dorothy said she "wasn't a good fit for the program." She is controlling, and compared to my 55 years of daily work with children, (I am 68) Dorothy knows NOTHING about children. Also, she would be overly strict with little 3-4 year old boys who were in my opinion "rambunctious" and having FUN. I waited 5 years to speak out, but the experience has not left me. Other grandparents need to be warned. I'm sure she will round up past parents in her defense, because she always had a trail of her "followers" who coddled her. They did not always see the "dark side" of Dorothy that I saw. Sincerely, "Gramma Betty" Schultz read more
