I just got my first cut from Sam and it's so lovely. This was my first visit to BGS and by good…read morefortune I was matched with wonderful Sam. Couldn't be happier with her work. The phone system (in which you don't automatically get a person but rather wait for someone to call you back) is a drag. Admittedly I got a call back very quickly, but for the price I would assume/hope I could call and get a person. Small issue and wouldn't keep me from going back. What will keep me from a second visit, though, is the price. I do like my haircut and I'd probably pay to have a coffee with Sam as much as have my hair done by her, but my very basic cut/clean-up trim was $165. (I stupidly didn't ask about the cost when I made my appt - my bad). For a hole-in-the-wall Ypsilanti shop (as opposed to a salon in NYC, Chicago) this seems exorbitant for a simple trim/cut. Maybe I'm out of date, but it's out of my budget for sure. Bummer bc Sam is the best.

This review is for eyebrow threading. When I moved from Boston (land of eyebrow threading on every…read morecorner by foot) to Ann Arbor, I had to do some research to find a new eyebrow place. Luckily, Yelp came through and pointed me straight to Saloni. Saloni is hands down the best eyebrow threader I've ever been to, and I've been to many. She is skilled, thorough, listens to what I want, brings out the inner beauty. She exudes warm, healing energy. Appointments are super easy via text. She is now in a new office space that she has lovingly decorated with bright colors and a lovely waiting space (I wasn't there long, as she does not keep people waiting).

Whether it's waxing, facials, makeup, yoni steams, etc. she does it all. She is very knowledgeable about her services, and natural products. Did I mention that she makes natural products? Enough said. If you're looking for someone who truly cares about their clients and delivers amazing results, look no further. Kierra is a VirGOAT, and I couldn't recommend them more highly!

Update after owner response:…read more I want to clarify a few things in response to the owner's reply, because it does not reflect what happened. The conversation that led to this situation was not started by me. While I was in the chair, the discussion had already shifted into conspiracy topics. A client then came in and brought up the Israeli prime minister and his cancer, making comments expressing happiness about it. The tone of the conversation included laughter and engagement from others around, which made it extremely uncomfortable to sit through. As a Jewish customer, I felt put in a very difficult position, especially being mid-service and unable to simply step away. The direction of the conversation is what led me to speak up and say that I'm Jewish and that I didn't agree, even though I was genuinely nervous to do so. When I said that, there was a visible shift, people were caught off guard, apologized, and said they don't hate Jews, they "just hate him." That does not change what was said or how it came across in that moment. The owner was the one cutting my hair and was part of the conversation. When I said I needed to leave, I was already overwhelmed and in a state of panic. My hair was not finished, and I had to ask for clips to be removed so I could go. I then found myself at a locked door and had to wait to be let out, which added to the distress of the situation. I do want to be clear that I did verbally express myself strongly toward the end. I'm not denying that. My reaction came after everything I had just experienced, not before. The owner's response mentions creating a safe environment and staff feeling uncomfortable. I did not create that situation, I reacted to it. I was the one sitting in the chair while this conversation was happening around me. After I spoke up, the response included references to "Jewish support groups" and comparisons between Jewish people and the queer community that felt dismissive and out of place given the context.

I want to preface this by saying I usually don't get professional massages and I've only been here…read moreonce. But my experience was amazing and I loved every minute of it! I walked into a calm, relaxing atmosphere. Once you exit the lobby area and go to the back, the lights are dim. The changing area was clean, there was a locker to put my personal belongs in, and the robe and sandals were super comfy. There was a shower and a toilet and a waiting area outside the restroom with an electric fireplace on the wall. The massage itself was super relaxing and enjoyable. The woman who did my massage spoke softly asking me what areas I'd like her to focus on and what would be included in my massage. She gave me clear direction and privacy. She was firm, and worked out a knot in my shoulder and did a full body massage. There was calming music playing softly. At the end, they gave me a cup of tea to drink while I changed. I was not rushed in the beginning or the end. I would absolutely love to come here again one day for another massage. The main thing that stops me from getting massages on a more regular basis is the cost!
