Their pork chops are so good and ribeye steaks were delicious and tender-had to cut off a bit of fat but will do for the price. They have fun frozen seafood in small batches so you can use in one meal. Service is good, market is clean and well organized. Some things don't have prices which makes it hard to ask when it's busy. I looked at it the other day and saw it was coming up...and the day is finally here so off we go! You first had to go get tokens to buy food and pay $5 for a glass and then pay tokens to try different drinks. The local wineries and breweries were well represented as well as interesting things like Hard Citrus and Hard Cider. The BBQ competitors came from all over the west and, maybe, beyond. The smokers and grills were lined up all around the front of the park. They also had a corn hole competition in the tennis court area. The prize money for all the competitions was $10,000 so this was serious fun. At 10:30, many started serving samples for 1 or 2 tokens. Side note. I am not a big fan of heavily smoked foods but all the food I tried was good. None was heavily or harsh smoked. Many came with little sauce and you could add-or not add what the competitor had for sauce. The favorite of many at the table-though, no where near official or even a good survey-were the Tri-Tip from Big Boys BBQ and the brisket on a biscuit with pepper jelly was at the top, too. I thought the elote from Rattlesnake BBQ was amazing, too. Copper Ridge Winery has a Peach Amaretto Sangria that should have had a Grand Prize for being lusciously sweet and ice cold!! And they have delicious wines, too!! Go there to try them yourselves and hear a band on Sundays! The event was well-planned and executed. Everyone seemed to know exactly what was going on. The day was hot but Central Park in Sutherlin had plenty of shade to enjoy. There were a few picnic tables in the shade but they really needed more to let people sit and eat. This is their first year so I'm sure they will get even more amazing next year. Let's hope flyers get passed out again saying there will be a 2024 Sutherlin Bags, BBQ and Brews Throwdown!! They also had a good beer selection but since I was on the scoot I grabbed a Coke instead to go with my ham and salami sammich. It was good. Really good. The pickle that came with it was that old-school deli pickle, and it also came with a bag of chips. Staff was friendly and the food came out quick. No TVs, the place was clean and bright, and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. Great place to stop in if you're on the road.
