I purchased a back-of-the-house storm door from Lowe's, who hired Crume Installations to put it in. The positives of this company? Well, the installer did a good job on my door. He seemed to know his stuff about repair and installation, and, two weeks out, the door seems installed well and works perfectly. The negatives that outweighed the positives? Well, there are two major ones: 1) Their phone system is terrible: cumbersome, uncaring and impersonal. They left a voicemail for me to call them. I did so. The phone answerer, obviously outsourced and going by a script by rote, took the information and said I'd get a call with the date. I can't just schedule right then? What is this? I got the voicemail about 4 days later, with a date that didn't work for me. So here we go again. I call them back, get a different outsourced person (I'm sure there's a hundred or so of them), who takes the information and says I'll get a call in the near future for a new date. That call comes, for a date I could attend, but I still had to call them again to confirm. All of it totally unnecessary and time-consuming. 2) the installer who came twice -- once to measure and once to install the door -- had ABSOLUTELY NO customer service skills. None. When he pulled in to do the measurement, I asked him to pull all the way in the drive so my neighbor could get in. He blew me off, walking past and saying, "I won't be here that long." And he didn't wear footies in my home (a must for workmen who respect the customer's home). But then, the day of the installation, his behavior was outrageous. At first I felt very sorry for him, because it was hot & humid outside, and he looked sweat-soaked and miserable. At that moment I even forgave that the end of his arrival window was 2:00 p.m. and he arrived at 1:55. And got him some water, ice, and wet towels for his neck and face. Yes, it was a frustrating installation, as my door's screws were stripped. But, even given the frustrations, he waaaay over-reacted. He repeated told me how much he hated Cincinnati (my hometown & the place of the installation, BTW), and blew up in loud frustration at every snag he encountered -- I heard every onomatopoeia of disgust there is --- aaaaaaaagh! Aaaaaaa! Ugggggghhh! -- You get the idea. I can't believe I was standing there, watching a grown man who was invited into my home throw a full-on lengthy ongoing temper tantrum in front of me. So, no, despite my pleasure at the professional job Lowe did in advising me and selling me the door. And despite the professional job the workman did, I would NEVER recommend anyone order a product from Lowe's that Crume would need to install. No value is worth this kind of hassle. One encounter with this experience was definitely too much. read more
