Ok, not gonna lie. This place is not in the best neighborhood and was a little scary to drive up to. But once inside I was pleased to find a clean, if unfinished, interior that is well-stocked with beer, wine and liquor. I'm a fan of the low overhead retailer with discounted prices. I don't need a shiny, high ceiling, newly painted storefront in order to shop for booze. So, I really liked this place. It's conveniently close to Walmart at 121 and Beach street. I've driven by it many times and not noticed it because of its nondescript brown and somewhat forgettable name. Not anymore. The guy who checked me out appeared to be the owner and was very polite and quick. He has an incense burner at the counter which gave the place a pleasant aroma, not overwhelming as incense can sometimes be. I came looking for rum for a homemade egg nog recipe and found three shelves of options. The beer selection was perhaps the weakest of the sections. But, I can get my Winter Warmer at World Market. For wine or spirits, I'll be back here!

There's not a huge assortment of goods here, but they have your basics covered and you're not going to leave here with anything of poor quality. You'll spend a few extra bucks on the essentials; Maker's Mark, Fireball, Deep Eddy Vodka. The little wine cellar is really pretty and cozy, but don't come looking for bottles under $10 -- you're looking at $15 and up. And it's for the best, of course! I found some really lovely and not-so-common bottles of cab that I can't wait to buy more of. Nice sized walk-in cooler/beer cave/whatever you want to call it that has a pretty stellar variety for such a tiny store. The staff is great. He immediately responded without looking anything up that he had sold the last one yesterday. I then asked for a different one and again said, "we sold the last one just today." I then asked if they would be getting any more, he replied that they never know what's coming in. He did direct me to other Spec's locations. I immediately drove to another Spec's location in Dalworthington Gardens where the employee looked up the beer on the computer, asked to check the name again and looked on the stores app. She let me know that unfortunately Spec's does not carry this beer at all. Thank you very much to the Cooper St. employee who sent me on the wild goose chase where I found my NEW FAVORITE liquor store.
