Asked in irritated tones, 'You wanted takeaway, right?' Er... no... 'That's an extra 50p charge for eat-in...' Grumbles ensued, and our confusion escalated, before finally he relented, saying 'It's okay, it's okay... sit down, we'll bring you your kebabs.' Even if there -was- a 50p extra charge, we'd already paid a pound over what their signage indicated... Whatevs. In the end, we were served huge plates with mounds of meat tucked into little half-pittas. Heaps of salad with brilliantly purple crispy cabbage came on the sides, and two tubs of properly spicy harissa and yoghurt sauce were welcome offerings. Whilst I will admit that the meat I had at Crystal Kebab near Kings Cross a few nights prior was superior in tenderness and flavour, the volume of food at an affordable price at City Best was undeniable. They have a fantastic bar where you can grab drinks while you wait for a table (they give you buzzers). I tried the Negroni and another tequila-based cocktail (sadly I can't remember the name), and both were phenomenal. Shared plates are definitely the way to go at Dishoom. We ordered the gunpowder potatoes (incredible), an appetizer with potatoes and pineapple (not my favorite; the pineapple threw me off), monkfish curry (amazing), and chicken curry. It was a lot of food for just two of us, but I couldn't stop eating. I seriously wanted to bottle up that sauce! The service was surprisingly impeccable, especially considering how busy they were. We ended up spending about £110 for an incredible dinner, and we nearly couldn't finish everything. Lastly, the ambiance! Inspired by Iranian cafes in India, the atmosphere at Dishoom is eclectic. A permanent fixture located in the hip Boxpark Shoreditch area. It's kind of like the container park in Las Vegas, except with great weather and 99% less douchy. They're open 7 days a week for your doner fix, or as an invitation to introduce you to the delicious Vegan version of a classic Turkish food. Think of a falafel wrap, but with Seitan instead of chickpea balls. It was so good that my babygirl who normally is quite indifferent towards middle eastern food, gobbled up more than her fair share of the wrap. I was quite proud of that girl! Don't forget to ask for a side of hot sauce. Very friendly service and the wrap came out at lighting speed despite being fairly busy. They DO NOT skimp on the filling here. That bad boy was quite girthy! It was also fairly reasonably priced @ £7.95 or so. In addition to the doner, they serve some sort of pizza and some salads. Although honestly, what more do you need than a Vegan doner wrap and a cold beer? (Brewdogs is just down the street)

Location: The restaurant is a little out of the main road and it is just down after the Hakkasan which is next door so easy to find once you get on the right road. Decor & Lighting: Modern design with low light levels and separate bar area as well as a separate private dining room so great for events and private parties. Open Kitchen so you can see all the work. If you want to take photos in the evening you will need to take a light and/or flash. With large glass windows however i think light levels will be fine during the day. Ambience & Acoustics: No need to shout here and music is background and not overpowering. I am sure they can turn up the volume as desired should you want more of a party given i have seen they do live music events in the bar area. But during a normal dinner the level of background music was perfect so you can actually talk without needing to shout. Drinks: Many options here but as i do not drink i focus on the mocktails and they had a good selection and again the staff were able to adjust and amend any based on your taste. You also can get masala chai by the way for all the fans out there. We had the following: Passion Infusion - Asked for one to be more citrus and loved it. Very fresh and sweet but i really enjoyed it. Darbaar Smoothie - A nice red berry drink, thick but full of flavour, i got a hint of cinnamon but i like cinnamon so no complaints there. Food: There is a good selection of food but not too much that you cannot make you mind up. It does seem at first that there is a limited vegetarian selection but this is not the case as they are able to accommodate and make dishes off the menu. One of the party was vegetarian and did not go hungry. Portion size is perfect as any more and we would have wasted it. Worth sharing dishes so you can taste a wider selection. Food all arrived promptly and hot. We had the following: Papad and Chutneys - Great selection and mini papad making it a lot easier to share. Came with three chutneys, all were great and different to the usual. Corn Fritters - Veg option and small portion size but it was nice but not spicy Grill platter (to share) - We asked for the salmon to be substituted which was no issue and you get a selection of Panner, Lamb Sheekh, Murgh Malai Kebab as well as Tandoori Salmon which we had subbed out. The selection and food was fresh and clean. All tasty but mild with the exception of the Lamb Sheekh which had a little kick to it. Chutney served with the dish was just right. Nothing was left.... Nizami / Baby Aubergine - Again everyone liked the dish and something i have not tasted before, came in a sauce which i tried as i don't really like Aubergine (just the consistency i think) but i did enjoy the dish and great vegetarian option for a main course which is not on the menu. I noticed another review said it was caked in oil but i did not find this was the case when we visited. Cumin Roasted Potatoes - Cooked perfectly and a nice side dish. Kasturi Butter Chicken - Cooked well and tasted nice but i am not sure how you can really make a butter chicken taste much different as you get a similar taste in many good Indian restaurants but not too sweet and classic taste so you know what to expect. Rice / Garlic Nan and Roti all served cut and initially looks like a small portion but really fresh and not thick but plenty for us. Garlic nan was really nice and not overpowering. The rice was also really perfectly cooked and very aromatic. Could have eaten the rice just by itself. Desert - Not a large selection but plenty to choose from and they do specials of the day. I was lucky as the special was one of my favourites a Dark Chocolate Fondant with Cinnamon ice cream. Really lovely chocolate sauce inside and it was really good, even though i was full i could not resist and had to eat all of it. Single portion size but enough for a dessert. Highly recommend this dessert if you are a fan of chocolate. Staff / Service: Everyone was super friendly and attentive. There was only some confusion over a second drinks order but this was rectified with no fuss and it is important to know that any issues are dealt with. Head Waiter was always attentive and kept passing by and was always able to help and advice on dishes and happy to make amendments to a dish and even suggested and made off the menu items. We were also introduced to Abdul Yaseen who is the owner and chef. Which was a nice touch. Bill / Cost: We had three in our party and we shared dishes with only mocktails and no alcoholic drinks and the bill came to £50 per head (£150 total for three of us) which i think is reasonable for fine dining. But i would add another £20-40 for those drinking depending on how much is consumed. Conclusion: I would highly recommend a visit and its nice to be in a different area

I think the answer to this problem may have been provided by the staff of Kebab zero. Simply wear a dirty apron with so many stains on it that no-one will notice the tell tale blood spatters, hack up the body, turn it into a doner kebab and sell it to people, who in all honesty, deserve what they get. To be fair though, when my friend got beaten up by patrons of Kebab Zero, the staff did call the police before locking the door and watching the attack through the window. Also, as kebabs go, I wouldn't say that Kebab Zero's offerings are any worse than the other skanky establishments lining the high street. Drunk people really don't care what they eat as long as it comes wrapped in a paper bag saturated with grease and various sauces and looks as much like a tumor as possible. Those, as far as I know are my drunken requirements and Kebab Zero really does deliver on this. Their chips with garlic and chili sauce are a welcome companion at the bus stop of doom on Shoreditch high street and I for one have received more than a few admiring glances and even some timid requests for a chip whilst standing here waiting for the 149. Obviously this place is best avoided for health reasons, but so are tequila shots, cigarettes and class A drugs. It doesn't stop everyone from doing them and then crying about it afterwards. If you want a dirty kebab, man up and deal with the consequences, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and based on this I believe that Kebab Zero are providing a very necessary public service.

Placed at the corner of Hackney Road, opposite Shoreditch Church has a high turn around every night, considering the people queuing up for it. Back before that stretch became trendy, and when people were generally cautious to go down there unless they were drunk, it was then I first experienced the delights of the East End Turkish takeaway. The place has a standing bar and more then 4 people are serving simultaneously. I normally go for a Chicken Kebab with lots of onions (!), salad, tomatoes, radish and a spicy chilly sauce. I tried the burger once and do not recommend it. Make sure you have somewhere to eat your Doner, as it otherwise gets a little bit messy Even though there are much nicer places to go for a meal, this is the only on which is open late hours. If the queue is too long, there are two or three more equally good Kebab shops further down Hackney road!
