The whiting was crispy, well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The mac & cheese was really good, and the sweet potatoes were on point too. Honestly, the food itself was a 10/10. No complaints there at all. What brought my overall rating down to a 9 was really just the atmosphere. The restaurant is very small, which is fine, but it wasn't the cleanest. There were boxes in the waiting area and quite a few flies flying around, which definitely took away from the experience. The person behind the counter was really nice and polite, so no complaints about the service either. Overall, Soul City gets a 9/10 from me. It was obvious that my food had been simply thrown into a microwave. The couscous although hot it was overcooked and mushy. The chicken was warm on the bottom but extremely cold as I cut into it. The Short Rib dish had the same problem. The pasta was steamy hot but the rib was cold. I really don't have a problem eating cold beef, but I can't eat cold chicken. I would have sent my dish back however it was obvious that they weren't going to make a new dish I felt they would have just nuked it longer. If I wanted nuked food I could have picked up a frozen dinner at the grocery store. Go for the wine, not the food.
