It isn't that close to Downtown, but you can take the tube at Aldgate East which takes you to the city centre. The hotel is clean and the staff mostly friendly. However, we didn't like the bathroom, it was to small! With 3 ladies and everybody has to get dressed this wasn't so much fun. Furthermore, the hotel is located directly on a street, which is noisy also in the night. I had to sleep with my earplugs because even if the window was closed, the room was still noisy! That was very unpleasant! Nevertheless, I would recommend the hotel because it wasn't that expensive and you can be Downtown in a short time. Don't expect luxury, after all it's a 3-star hotel. If you don't stay that much in your hotel room and just come here to sleep, you will like this hotel!

As…read morewe walked around the neighborhood everyday, we kept passing this cute little sign on the sidewalk in front of a hotel advertising high tea. My family *loves* high tea, so we decided to pop in and give it a whirl. When we entered the hotel, I was surprised to see a very formal, fancy atmosphere - definitely not what I expected. When we asked about the high tea, a waiter told us that it would probably be a couple of hours before they could serve us. Apparently, on the website it says that you have to make a reservation because everything is freshly made. Our helpful waiter seated us and told us that if we were willing to wait, he would talk to the chef and see how soon he could bring us our tea/towers. Being a family of 5 people, European restaurants often have trouble sitting us all comfortably, but this waiter went out of his way to put three tables together outside so that we could have enough room. After awhile, he came back and told us that the chef could have everything ready in about an hour, but that he could give us our tea ahead of time. Having nothing better to do for an hour, we decided to stay. Boy, am I glad we did! The hotel was having a special where we could get one complimentary glass of Prosecco or juice with our tea for free! Additionally, our food was ready well within the hour and each got individual pots of tea. Because it's London, while we were eating it started to rain, but the hotel had umbrellas that were heated, both sheltering us from the rain and keeping us warm - it was wonderful. As for the food itself, the tower was three levels, with the bottom being your traditional sandwiches, and the middle scones and strawberries, but the top layer was different. Inspired by a prominent writer who lived in the area, the top plate had egg tarts and sesame balls, which were both unique and delicious. While we were stuffing ourselves, the waiter brought out yet *another* plate (pictured below) full of delicious sweets. Seriously, everything was SO good. Overall, the back garden area where we were sitting was lovely, the service was so spectacular that it turned a very awkward situation into a wonderful one, the china was beautiful, and the food was remarkable. It was pretty expensive, but, in my opinion, worth every penny.

We took the train into the King's Cross station, where you can take the bus or walk over. And there were nights we came back from the Angels station. And finally when we left, we left from Pancras International which was across from King's Cross Station. Upon check in staff was nice, checked if we had food allergies, and gave us their delicious Doubletree cookies. We were given a 1 bed room on the 5th floor, which is their top floor. For my friends in the states, this is equivalent to the 6th floor because in London the first floor is 0 or ground floor. The elevators, or as they call it, the lifts were small in space. It can fit about 4-5 people without luggage or maybe 2-3 people with luggage. I liked that you needed to scan your room card to access the elevators, but I didn't like how our cards kept getting deactivated. Staff told me it can't be near phones or credit cards or it will deactivate. Pretty silly cause the card is card size made for wallets. I have been to many hotels and even many DoubleTrees all over the world, and this was the first time my card deactivated, and multiple times, during my trip. As for the room, it was very tight for 2 people. It would still be tight for one person. There was only one side table. Barely any space for 1 piece of luggage. The bed was hard and the pillow was flat. The TV only had local channels and the guide didn't even display what the channels were. Other hotels I have been to lately all have streaming options these days. There was a mini fridge that wasn't too cold and a blow dryer. The bathroom was so cramped it was hard to maneuver around. Barely any counter space. Good thing I have a hanging toiletries bag to give myself extra space and prevent my belongings from getting wet. Overall, the location is the main selling point about this hotel. Being walkable to nearby main stations is important when travelling.

I only thing that made me give them a 4-star rating is, it the entrance to the hotel is odd, and there's no clear signage so if you or your uber haven't been to the area when you are first arriving it, is hard to find.
