My experience was wonderful with this company but I don't know if they are still selling watches anymore.

This is mid December 2022. I submitted a description and pictures of my watch to Hodinkee either as a trade in or cash outright. Because they are getting more watches than they sell I got an offer of a gift card towards the purchase of one of their watches in their inventory. I reached out to 4 watch dealers and Hodinkee's was by far the most generous. I had an eye on a Rolex Datejust 41 so I accepted their trade in offer. I sent in my watch to them and read the reviews after the fact. Boy was I horrified and worried. Winds up I didn't have to worry at all. They received my watch and my final offer was the same as their initial offer - nothing subtracted. I accepted the offer and sent in my trade. It arrived overnight and I got my final offer the day after. I then bought my new Rolex which they held for me. They assured me they would not sell it out from under me during the trade in process. I made an error in my purchase order but they rectified it for me. Emails were promptly answered. Associates were very courteous and professional. Getting a live person is another thing. Often times, you are told to hold and after awhile you are dropped into voicemail. The secret to getting a live person is call on a Tuesday or Thursday just when they open. They are slammed on Mondays and Fridays. Anyway, pictured is my new watch which was overnighted to me. I'm delighted. It was described as "in general excellent condition." It looked even better - more like "used unworn" imo. So shiny! Spot on accurate too. An outright sell to them for cash is another thing. I sold them a couple watches beginning of this year and they were slow to pay. I'm not subtracting a star because this present deal was so good. Below is my new watch. My watch came today and it is gorgeous. I left my Rolex in a hotel two years ago and it still makes me sick to this day. I was going to buy a new Rolex Milgauss but a Facebook ad from Crown & Caliber piqued my interest. I bought from Crown & Caliber a similar watch to my missing watch, it was delivered yesterday. I was so excited, I didn't care about the cheap packaging. I bought a Shinola watch, the package even came gift wrapped?! I ripped open the cheap paper packaging. The watch band is tight on my wrist. I called today and I was told since Crown & Caliber isn't an authorized Rolex dealer, they are not able to sell me a link or take the watch back to add links. Listen, I love the watch. C&C is just okay. I bought a submariner (114060) from them and the price was fair and I loved their youtube content and hodinkee just teamed up with them so I was expecting good things. I was surprised however when the customer support and attention to detail was lacking. Its very common practice for online watch dealers to size the bracelet before sending out the watch, especially on a very expensive purchase, they however refuse to do that for "logistical issues" and told me to go to the Rolex dealer in person... when there is a global pandemic risking my health and for my family. I have bought from other watch dealers before such as DavidSW, and the attention to detail they bring to the purchase end to end is superior. When the watch arrived it had a ton of extremely sticky stickers on the watch as well, which left an awful residue on the watch, and I had to wash the watch immediately. From my experiences, great businesses have two things in common. 1.) An extreme over the top care for the customer, and making sure the customer is happy. 2.) A relentless deep obsessive nature for the details in the products they produce or sell. C&C lacks in both categories. It's so unfortunate because their online presence and youtube channel is fantastic. I love the watch, but this will be my last purchase from them unfortunately. read more

I just don't get the logic... I was working with them on a watch trade-in deal to buy my Seamaster from me. I mailed my watch in and was shocked to see my deal was ultimately killed after they inspected it and apparently found low amplitude and debris in the movement. Not only a massive surprise that this was the case given it was working without issue, and I don't care that they're just carrying the water here and telling me what they allegedly found.... My gripe is the wasted time and inability to move forward at a lower purchase price vs. the whole thing falling apart. You guys have an in-house service team, provide a warranty through you, not the manufacturer on used watches you sell, so why would guys just shut down and fold instead of finding a workable way forward with both parties? Take another grand off, it'll still be 2k+ cheaper then the one you have for sale on your site, AND you'll get it back in spec for MAYBE $250 of your cost? It's like going to trade your car in at the dealer and learning it needs new tires....take that off trade offer and everyone moves on. Now you've wasted my time, I will be out of the watch for ~2 weeks of total transit time to you and back...just for you guys to tell me something I could've been told by any local watchmaker. I find your trade program flawed and stupid and lacking any sort of elementary level logic for a business in the used watch game. read more

Crown and Caliber has continuously admitted to their false advertising practice, but have yet to provide sufficient remedy for their unethical behaviors. Please read the 177 other reviews of the company that are hidden on this site. There is a link at the bottom of the reviews titled "177 other reviews that are not currently recommended". They are primarily negative reviews that highlight this company's frequent unethical business practices, including Fakes, False Advertising, and Bait and Switch. I was told a week ago someone from the executive team would be contacting me. I had to hunt them down late on a Friday afternoon just to get a response. They provided the same excuses for their immoral behaviors and offered an insufficient remedy. I've been lied to by several folks at the company now. That doesn't include the false or misleading information they site with no data to back it up. I've begged them for data supporting their assertions and have yet to receive anything. Every one of them has looked me in the face and told me a 1.87% discount is a great remedy when the only data published on this topic shows the actual discount should be 20%+ (see photos attached). They have offered me 1/10 of what they should be offering me disregarding any punitive damages for their false advertisements. Sent a second watch few years later they stated its fake and are refusing to return, so pretty much have stolen it. Phone number is just tells you to go to their website. UPDATE: Crown & Caliber reached out to me after I posted my review and got the issue resolved for me. While it was initially a frustrating experience to to be told to basically 'pound sand', to their credit, they did end up resolving things commendably. --These guys are royally pissing me off! I cannot recommend CROWN AND CALIBER and suggest you avoid them. Really bad and frankly, they seem evil so I have to give them a bad review since they are problematic and issue prone. A day after I received the Rolex, they had a coupon sale include the same model. Yet, they are refusing to honor that for me. That seems unfair since the same exact model is part of the coupon sale, and I've spent nearly $35k with them in the last 3 weeks. I'm also even within your return policy to return the watch for full refund. Why not just honor the coupon for me? It seems they would rather me return the watch for a full refund than honor the small promo for me. Wow. That just seems unfair and jerkish not to mention, totally petty. I've never had such a bad experience like this before anywhere. We bought a Cartier watch that stopped working in six weeks. I thought the batteries were dead so took the watch to a nearby shop to replace the batteries. The watch still didn't work. I mailed it back to C&C for inspection. This was their feedback: "Case has been opened by 3rd party. The cell was improperly seated, and the back gasket was pinched. The caseback with smudges, cell with smudges. Unfortunately we do not cover issues that are caused by 3rd parties opening the watch. We will be returning the watch to the client promptly. " We have spent over $10k with this seller but they were not very helpful in resolving the issues. read more

When in fact I have the receipt showing it is real. I definitely would not buy a Rolex from this company as they are shady as all! Stay away! Ever since this place was bought out by HOSTINKEE they've gone downhill quickly. Here are my issues: Bought a submariner that was gaining 20+ seconds a day and clearly wasn't serviced or even checked. Traded for a planet ocean and they didn't actually reserve the watch for me so I had to select another and guide them through every step of the process. I had to do their job for them every step of the way to get the ball rolling. Ridiculous. Recently bought a Brosnan era Seamaster 2531.80 that lost 20 seconds in the first half day that I wore it. It's stopped overnight twice now indicating no power reserve (yes watch was wound and worn all day). For all I know this thing may be a fake as it doesn't hold time and stops overnight. Also, they claimed a 90's manufacture date when the serial number was tied to 2006 manufacture. Don't even know what they're selling. Complete garbage company that has no place selling watches as they don't know how to service or check watches. These guys are clowns. read more

For the good. C&C are reliable dealers and you don't have to worry about franken or fugasi watches. For the bad. If you are interested in selling them a watch and you wish to use the proceeds to purchase from C&C, they won't hold the watch you are interest in buying. By the time their evaluation of the watch you submit results in store credit the watch you had your eye on could be gone, and you could be stuck with store credit since currently they are not offering cash for watches. Furthermore, they won't allow you to use your store credit retroactively if you elect to purchase their watch to ensure it isn't sold while you wait. Additionally, when you sell to C&C you take a bit of a hit since their offers are generally lower than one could receive by selling privately, so for many of us funding a purchase is an important part of selling to C&C in the first place. They don't make it easy unless you are open to purchasing several watches in their inventory. Why don't they just include an optional hold fee that you can use towards the purchase if you go through with the deal? read more

I previously rated them 5 stars but since they were bought by Hodinkee, service has gone down the tubes. I've bought and sold a little over a dozen of high end watches to them over the last few years...I even had a relationship manager. The last couple of transactions have been brutal. Previously they've never once changed a quote after inspection, however the last two times (and coincidentally after they were bought out) they've reduced a quote by $500 saying it needed a new strap (a strap that I sold afterwards for $400 privately...guess it wasn't in that bad of shape after all) and outright pulled an offer on a very high end piece, starting that it required a regular service. The piece was 20 years old, which they knew before I even shipped, and not to mention that I've sold them much older pieces which required more even servicing in the past. The worst part is that emails are never answered anymore. Even when you call in and they say they'll get back to you, they don't. Had a shipping inquiry and they never bothered to even call me back. Service was good before...it is non existent now. Don't waste your time, there's other companies that deserve your business. read more

When received, they tell me they are not interested due to dial discoloration. No problem, it's 26 years old. The problem was they kept one of my links. Finally reaching someone they tell me, not likely, but we may have made a mistake. Then I received a receiving report they made up that showed the lesser amount of links. I recently sold my Breitling Navitimer to Crown and Caliber/Hodinkee as they offered the most compelling offer. The initial process was smooth and easy as I accepted the offer online and immediately received the prepaid shipping label. I brought the watch to a FedEx store the next day and the watch was delivered that following Monday. I received an adjusted offer on Tuesday due to the condition of the crystal so now my offer was $200 lower. I still proceeded with accepting the offer as their offer was still the most compelling. After accepting my final offer that same day, I paid $25 for expedited shipping (deducted out of my final offer) and was informed via email that I will receive shipping information within 3-5 business days along with a tracking number. Fast forward to the following Monday and now 3 business days have passed. Still nothing from the C&C team so I decided to call. After waiting on the phone over 60 minutes, I finally reached a rep who said that she didn't see any updates and would follow up with me after reaching out to accounting. Another day passed without a follow up so I reached out again, only to be disconnected due to the number calls. I tried reaching out again later that same day and they were already closed as they are open from 5 AM PST to 2 PM PST. I called the following day and I finally reached someone else. I was informed that the check was issued but they could not give me a tracking number since they typically "do not" give tracking numbers, although, their email stated otherwise. I received a notification from UPS My Choice later that evening informing me that I would be receiving a next day express package from Illinois. I was confused because C&C is located in Georgia but I was not expecting anything in particular so I figured it was from C&C. That following day on Thursday I did indeed receive the C&C check. All in all, it took over 9 days or 7 business days for me to receive my check with expedited shipping. That was not terrible but the issue is C&C should work on level setting customer's expectations and train their customer service reps to give out accurate information. Don't tell me I will receive a check in 3-5 business days when in actuality it takes 7+ business. When sending out a valuable asset worth thousands of dollars, sellers expect accurate information from a buyer. read more

I have to say that the search for the timepiece that I really wanted was quite involved. I had to first figure out what I wanted, the style and features. Once I determined what I wanted in my first Rolex, I set out looking for it. After finding multiple roadblocks to finding them new, I decided to check pre-owned sources. I wanted to first find a reputable dealer and spent many hours researching many online dealers. From my research I came to Crown and Caliber. Their website is very clean and easy to use, and they had the exact style of Rolex that I was looking for in the size that I wanted, an Oyster Perpetual 36mm with rhodium dial. I had some questions so I called the customer service line and though I was on hold for a while, once I got through to an assistant she was extremely knowledgeable, patient and very kind and answered all of my questions. Once I got off the phone with her I purchased my first Rolex. I got the overnight shipping and it was packaged very nicely in a Crown and Caliber box as well as a leather pouch with pillow as well as the original Rolex box that was mentioned in the listing. This timepiece exceeded my expectations, though it matched the description of a very very small blemish on the crystal (I plan to have the crystal replaced) it otherwise looks brand new from the factory. When I am in the market for another timepiece I will be buying with Crown and Caliber. read more

One of the best (if not the best) places to buy a luxury watch. The pictures and watch details are transparent and true. Some online retailers may show a good deal on a watch but only show you one picture and minimal details which is not comforting when your spending thousands. In my case, I bought an Omega Seamaster 300M and got a great deal....below retail and below other retailers. It was used but in perfect condition in my opinion and it was only a few months old. C&C periodically give great coupon codes so I saved even more. They are also updating inventory everyday because this watch wasn't on their site the day before I bought it so check often for the watch your looking for. I purchased a Cartier watch from this outfit. The day it arrived I realized that the date changing function was not working. I also later found that the sapphire on the stem of the watch was chipped. I immediately called C&C and was told that I could either return it or have it repaired. I am going to return it but nobody answers the phone, or the phone is busy, or emails are not answered. I have deal with crown many times and was satisfied but when I went to sell my Rolex Daytona, they screwed me over big time. I submitted the watch, they requested photos and then they offered me $17500. I sent the watch in and they said sorry due to condition being very good and not excellent , your offer is now $13500. Be careful buying a watch from these guys. They say fully inspected which is certain not the case in my situation. Damaged water seal and a part feel out. Wasn't able to provide me their inspection report and I had to end up sending to the original manufacture. Due to the poor business practices of this company, I had to wait a month to receive payment for a watch I sold them. Integrity is everything. If you make a mistake, and miss a deadline, own it. Don't lie to your customers. I sold an Omega Seamaster Professional to Crown and Caliber. I mailed it December 23rd, and I accepted my final offer on December 29th. With the understanding that New Years Day they would be closed, I waited patiently for my check to arrive. On January 11, I still had not received my check. I called customer service to inquire. I was told that, due to the New Year being Friday, all checks for watches sold that particular week were printed and shipped on Monday, 4 January. I was also told that the 10 days referenced on the website in the email means ten business days, and that I should call back on Thursday, 14 January if I had not received it. January 14th I called, and was told by a different employee that my check had been printed on Friday, 8 January. When I explained what I had previously been told, the employee double-checked and confirmed January 4th as the ship date. At this point, I requested the old check cancelled and a new check sent via FedEx. I was told it would be printed and shipped on Friday, 15 January. The following week, on Wednesday, 20 January, the original check did actually arrive. Two important things to note about this: the date on the check was 5 January, not 4 January as I had originally been told; and the postmark on the envelope was dated 11 January - a full week after the check was printed. The same day, 20 January, I called to request a racking number for the FedEx envelope with the reissued check. I was provided one that day. The check finally arrived on Friday, 22 January - a full month after the watch was shipped to them. Again, something important to note: the date on this check was 19 January, but I was told a new check would be issued and shipped on 15 January. Again, integrity is everything and should be everything to a business. If you miss a deadline or a payment falls through the cracks, then own it, identify it, and fix it. Also, I do have a recommendation for mailing checks: you are dealing in thousands of dollars, and your selling customers are trusting you to take their watch and send them money. Maybe send the check via registered mail, or priority with tracking. After all, you purchased my watch for $2970 (a reduction from the original offer because the dealer that sold it to me failed to stamp the warranty card) and similar models with no box and no paperwork are selling for over $4100 on the website. I think you can afford the $7.40 base commercial rate for a priority envelope. read more

I sent my watch in for a warranty repair and not only do they not honor their warranty. They have had my watch for 3 months and are not responding to emails. I sent 2 watches that were pristine and like new with all the documentation, paperwork and boxes to sell to their company. Crown & Caliber came back with a quote and I accepted seeing they have a big online presence. I received 1 final offer on 1 of the watches but not the other. I called and Brett told me that there was damage to the ceramic case on the other watch. He said there was a crack and looked like someone was turning the crown with a tool. I said this is impossible as I don't treat my watches in such a manner and there is no reason EVER to put a tool on the crown of the watch. This watch was indeed tampered with by Crown & Caliber as I see the screw heads on the case back have been marred. This shows that an employee or watchmaker there opened the caseback up. I understand the reason because they must make sure it's an authentic watch. However upon doing so they damaged the ceramic case. The ceramic case can't be fixed, it must be replaced. This is the only option with ceramic watches. Crown & Caliber will take no responsibility and Brett told me to put a complaint with UPS for shipping damage. But I know it wasn't damaged in shipment because the watch was surrounded in styrofoam and then 2 boxes. Brett was telling me to commit fraud by blaming it on UPS which shows his character and the culture at Crown & Caliber. Pass the blame on to others. This can't be an isolated incident, I'm sure similar situations have happened involving Crown & Caliber. If they break or damage something and blame the client what is our recourse? I want this company put on notice. This is unethical and they should be held accountable. read more
