Croton Karate Dojo was founded in 2005 by Sensei Peter Doherty with the mission of bringing a well rounded martial arts training to students of all ages. Sensei Doherty teaches from a foundation in traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate and incorporates elements from other martial arts and self defense training. HIs goal is to equip each of his students with the knowledge and ability necessary to defend themselves, whether in the ring or in real world situations.
At Croton Karate we believe in teaching respect and discipline as an integrated part of martial arts training, and we seek to build self-esteem, character, and strength in each student
History
Established in 2005.
We offer a different approach to Martial Arts training.
We offer FIVE days of training per week, with classes at varied times to accommodate our members. Sensei Doherty teaches all classes and knows everyone's name.
Unlike many Martial Arts schools, one membership allows you to attend any and all classes at your level, with no restrictions. Moreover, another very unique quality is that we have no testing fees for colored belts! At Croton Karate your rank is earned by hard work, not your money!
Meet the Business Owner: Peter D.
Sensei Doherty has been a student of Martial Arts for over 18 years. He founded Croton Karate Dojo in August 2005 in order to share his knowledge, training, and passion for martial arts.
His chosen art, Goju-ryu, means "hard-soft style", and Sensei Doherty does teach both aspects of the art. In addition to the hard hitting elements of karate, Sensei Doherty teaches his students how to simply deflect physical attacks, and how to use their own energy and breath to calm and prepare themselves. He focuses on discipline and respect in his classes, as he guides his students to achieve the inner strength of martial artists, not only the physical strength of athletes.
