What's it like to have your expectations exceeded every time you show up? One word that comes to mind is "awesome!" First of all, the dojo is spotless. Secondly, from the first time I showed up, I was treated with respect by the students and the people who work at the school. (As an aside, other places I visited I was barely acknowledged - I had to practically flag someone down to get some questions answered!) And when I looked around at the other people in the waiting area, everyone was friendly and had great things to say. Lastly, my interest is mainly in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and I was glad to find out that there's a structure in the classroom where students can actually learn what they're supposed to do. All the instructors are gracious with their time, and they're very patient. As a beginner I was a little worried that I'd get wiped out in the class, but it was the opposite - I feel like I'm starting to get a grasp on jiu-jitsu. So much so, that my wife and I made the decision to introduce our elementary aged twin daughters to Seido earlier this year. The children's program is wonderful and puts exceptional credence to safety, development, and building confidence among the kids and teens. I've witnessed this firsthand as I help assist children's classes periodically. It's been a pleasure to refer Seido to many of our close friends, who also are either members themselves or enrolled their kids in the children's program and train with my girls. All of the instructors are wonderful people who I would trust with my daughters implicitly, without reservation. They mixed up the classes from cardio, to self defense, to ground fighting and forms. Both my younger sister have gone through the program and Hiawatha and Steve have done everything to make sure we got the best deal. It's a safe clean environment. Waiting area for the parents with TVs to watch the all the classes from other rooms. My sisters and I would rotate doing homework while the other was in class. It's close to the metro north and to many food places in Larchmont. I am certainly not the more trained or most athletic person but I absolutely love this place and care about the instructors like family. Another big plus is that his schedule is flexible, and he offers a wide variety of class times, which makes it easier for my wife and me to schedule lessons, given our busy schedules.
