Columbus has plenty of things to see & its just a hop skip and a jump from Madison. Wednesday morning, some extremely rude man from this shop called my office, accused us of cold call telemarketing and hung up before I even knew who he was. So, I looked up the telephone number and found out it was "Light House Lamp Repair." If that's how they treat potential customers, I certainly won't be giving them any business. I didn't catch they guy's name, but he could stand to learn some manners.

The Beaver Dam Antique Mall just kept going and going and going!…read more The "mall" is comprised of several antique sellers who each have their own little area inside the store. Once you think you are done browsing through all the shops, you notice a set of stairs leading to more finds upstairs and then a third floor! Wow, I could have spent all day here! There are various items from all different time periods and some great deals. I scored a red "train bag" with a 70's style Amtrak button still pinned to the outside. My friends Carolynne and Andy also both found some great stuff. If we had more room in our car, we would have bought some great furniture. I found a cute telephone desk and a writing desk in need of refinishing. Carolynne had her eye on a mammoth set of mail sorting shelves, which would have made a cute bookcase. This will definitely be a stop on our next trip and we'll make sure to rent a U-Haul for all of the great furniture finds.

Not impressed with this place at all. Think more "the crap someone pulled out of grandma's pole…read moreshed" versus hidden treasures. The place is loaded with "knick-knacks". The few furniture pieces lacked character, and were significantly overpriced for their state of disrepair. It's also super offsetting to walk into a store in small town Beaver Dam and to be asked to lock your purse in a locker. This isn't Chicago or Milwaukee, and even more to the point, who even steal grandma's old salt and pepper shaker collection?

Parts of the area has seen better days. We popped into both this is antique store, and one down the block. They had an interesting selection of items and they were reasonably priced. The Post Office window-service was already closed for the day at 11:30am!

But Ryan, the manager, made the whole process easy and actually enjoyable. He listened carefully to my concerns and really took the time to understand what I needed--not just what was on sale or what he could sell me. It took a few tries to find the right fit, but Ryan's patience, knowledge, and people skills made all the difference. Thanks to his help, I am now the proud owner of a QN LuxeAdapt 2 Soft mattress, and I finally wake up without pain for the first time in years. If you're looking for someone who genuinely cares and knows their stuff, ask for Ryan. You won't regret it.

They stock almost all of the different types of Blue Sky Alpacas yarn (my favorite), and have a great selection of yarns from other manufacturers. Prices seemed reasonable to me, but this could be compared to buying the same yarns in the UK. In addition to a great selection of yarn, there is a great selection of needles from Crystal Palace Yarns and Brittany to name a few. Be mindful that the store is not open Sundays and Mondays, so plan accordingly if you're making a special trip! Also, if you are not fond of winding your hanks by hand, the staff are happy to wind them for you, free of charge! All in all, I loved the place, and will most certainly stop in the next time I'm visiting home.
