I've been going to TCPC for 10 years. I was on pain medication when I started going here, so they…read morekept me on the dose I was on (high dose). I have multiple reasons for being in pain. Fast forward to about 2 years ago. I was forced to cut back on my pain meds. However the cut back ultimately was a good thing and I could live a life I could handle. Last year at this time I was told I had to cut back even more and I was not happy about this. My provider at the time ( Bethany who is no longer there) went to bat for me with no luck, they decreased my meds. She said it would be a long process of further decreasing my meds, but she was wrong. 9 months later and they cut back my meds again. I am now on their acceptable dose and they keep asking me if I want a spinal pain pump. I do not!!!!!! I'm old school, do the least invasive thing until it no longer works, then do the next least invasive , and so On. Spinal pain pump is the last resort for me. I'm in my early 50's, I hopefully have many more years to live, I don't want the big guns for pain now. No way, I'm saving that for when I need it later in down the road. However, what do I do now if my pain gets worse? I have variable pain, and sometimes I need more meds, but I can't have them. It's frustrating to say the least. They told me the won't even start new patients on painkillers!!!!!! In a rare circumstance, the might, but the pt is only allowed to stay on for 1 year. Really? It's no acceptable at all. Chronic pain is real, most patients with chronic pain follow the rules religiously. It's just sad that it has come to this. Pain meds are right there, but we can't access them, and we need them to live quality of life.

If I could leave less than 1 star I would. I was shuffled off to a lesser provider and they seemed…read moremore concerned with weening me off medications and putting a spinal implant in (an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS surgical procedure) then actually helping or even maintaining a level of care. I have been a patient at the Maple Grove iSpine Clinic for a good number of years. I have read all…read morethe negative comments on this page, and am also aware of the other side of the story. Remember what a mess drug prescriptions were? Everybody's dog was scripting drugs, even simply at the patient's request. Well, medicine has become more specialized and pain is no exception. This is a good thing. Congress has made drug regulations very detailed, and insurance companies have created an obsticle course, so much so that Family Doctors have a tough time dealing with all of it. These new pain clinics are designed to deal with all the regs on drugs insurance companies AND protect both the doctors legally and the patients medically. Skilled and talented nurses have rigid rules that keep everything in accordance and running smoothly. Special procedures are in place for everyone's protection, and they are important. Excuse me if this is repetitive. I want you to understand. In my opinion, nurses handle most all patient contact, evaluation, analysis, prescribing, everything, often in consultation with the doctor. Doctors will avoid any comments, referring you to your family practitioner for questions or evaluation. They are totally protecting themselves with the nurses as buffers. You can not call to speak to a nurse or doctor for anything other than scheduling. They even have assistants witnessing and recording their interaction with the patient, now. This is all a good thing. Insurance companies and laws, litigation and misdiagnosing, etc., etc. have to be dealt with, firmly and strictly in order to serve patients efficiently, safely, legally all in the patient's best interest. The pain clinic program has been, for these and other reasons, a huge success in helping deal with the 'War on Drugs." Yes, I have felt some 'rudeness' at times, seen the hard and fast rules, but nobody tells you why. Dr. William Fox, MD. (retired) explained to me over the years of his involvement in this program and the forces doctors have to deal with. He gave me an insight not generally available. I've had a chance to see both sides of the picture and it's not perfect. Humans are prone to failure. That's how we learn. We are still learning about pain, still trying new things. I have had great success along with some 'kinda' successes, but on the whole, I'm happy as a bear in honey with iSpine. They have my pain under control and I have a ton and a half of pain. I'm a regular Evel Kinevil with this, that and everything broken and the rest just one big pain. The few "Pains" I may get from iSpine are in my best interest and I don't need a special procedure for them. These guys do a fantastic job and they get my many thanks for trying to simplify what seemed to be at one time, an insurmountable job. You give 'em a break, too! Bob K. Oak Grove, MN

Thought we had a plan to do sympathetic nerve block immediately followed by PT. Instead I was referred to a physical therapy doctor so he could refer me for physical therapy! Tried several times to schedule the sympathetic nerve block but never received calls back to do so. Only received a call back after submitting a cancelation request for the already scheduled PT consult. Hard to trust your doctor when your being told something different by the nurses than what the doctor said would happen
