I began coming here six years ago due to chronic nerve pain in my lower extremities, which is very difficult to treat. My doctor, Dr. Kokayeff, was absolutely amazing. In my opinion, the most important thing is to feel as though you've been heard during any interaction with a physician. Each and every time I walked away knowing she listened to o what I had to say and worked with me to ensure the chosen therapies were the best for me. Then, almost two years ago, something happened I wasn't even prepared for. Dr. Kokayeff and I had been working together for five years when she told me I would be a good candidate for a pain pump. I had never heard of one so she gave me a lot of information to look at. After reading through everything, I knew that this would further improve my life. I went through the process of getting approved for it and began taking the necessary steps to have it put in. In truth, the first few months were hard. The amount of pain I experienced increased because they have to start off at a low dose and work their way up. However, once that dose is reached it is nothing short of life changing. Imagine never having to think about meditations again. Imagine being able to travel and live your life on your terms without worry of refill dates and appointments. Imagine only having to go to the clinic four times a year. This is my new reality. If not for Dr. Kokayeff and Dr. Will, I don't know where I'd be. In addition to the above, I have better pain management because of the pump too. I am now working with Britta Carlson, who I believe is a PA. She is equally thoughtful and caring regarding my care and takes the time to ensure everything is going well with me. Equally as important is the staff at the Woodbury location is phenomenal. From the moment I walk into the clinic I am greeted by name. Even medical staff I don't work with are kind and considerate of how you are doing. I cannot stress enough how finding the right place is a case of life and death when it comes to pain management. For those who suffer from chronic pain, you know the toll it takes on you both mentally and physically. You are not alone. The front desk personnel, Sylvia, gives off a passive-aggressive, patronizing attitude while dealing with clients, even new ones like those who were treated rudely by her while she was on the phone and for 8 min and made sure you knew you weren't to interfere. I made a call beforehand, stating I would be running behind and the person on the phone said, "head in," even after I told her my ETA. She said she would speak to my provider. Upon arriving, I was met with Sylvia's "pleasant" attitude, and accidentally responded when she said, "Hi." Little did I know, she had just ended one call and began another. The 8-9 min spent on the phone without letting my provider know I had arrived, is most likely the reason she said that she wouldn't meet with me. I had explained the previous conversation on the phone and I believe she thought I was trying to undermine her, when in reality, I just wanted to explain why I traveled 20+ min and arrived late with assurance of seeing the provider. It's sad that in 2026, when a Muslim woman is by herself, certain people feel the need to assert dominance when nobody else is around. Then, when the other "new" clients came in behind me, the way she treated them was rude as well, as if she didn't feel either one of us fit in to be there.

Remember what a mess drug prescriptions were? Everybody's dog was scripting drugs, even simply at the patient's request. Well, medicine has become more specialized and pain is no exception. This is a good thing. Congress has made drug regulations very detailed, and insurance companies have created an obsticle course, so much so that Family Doctors have a tough time dealing with all of it. These new pain clinics are designed to deal with all the regs on drugs insurance companies AND protect both the doctors legally and the patients medically. Skilled and talented nurses have rigid rules that keep everything in accordance and running smoothly. Special procedures are in place for everyone's protection, and they are important. Excuse me if this is repetitive. I want you to understand. In my opinion, nurses handle most all patient contact, evaluation, analysis, prescribing, everything, often in consultation with the doctor. Doctors will avoid any comments, referring you to your family practitioner for questions or evaluation. They are totally protecting themselves with the nurses as buffers. You can not call to speak to a nurse or doctor for anything other than scheduling. They even have assistants witnessing and recording their interaction with the patient, now. This is all a good thing. Insurance companies and laws, litigation and misdiagnosing, etc., etc. have to be dealt with, firmly and strictly in order to serve patients efficiently, safely, legally all in the patient's best interest. The pain clinic program has been, for these and other reasons, a huge success in helping deal with the 'War on Drugs." Yes, I have felt some 'rudeness' at times, seen the hard and fast rules, but nobody tells you why. Dr. William Fox, MD. (retired) explained to me over the years of his involvement in this program and the forces doctors have to deal with. He gave me an insight not generally available. I've had a chance to see both sides of the picture and it's not perfect. Humans are prone to failure. That's how we learn. We are still learning about pain, still trying new things. I have had great success along with some 'kinda' successes, but on the whole, I'm happy as a bear in honey with iSpine. They have my pain under control and I have a ton and a half of pain. I'm a regular Evel Kinevil with this, that and everything broken and the rest just one big pain. The few "Pains" I may get from iSpine are in my best interest and I don't need a special procedure for them. They…read moresaid they needed my entire medical file (no one has ever asked for that - including surgeons). I got the file and was told to send to their admin email. After not hearing anything, I contacted them and they said they wanted access to my file directly. I contacted my clinic and was given a code they could enter to view my file. I notified them of this with the code and have not heard a word back from them since. What a joke and to think I wasted all this time on their behalf. Won't even comment on my impression of clients in waiting room. Do not waste your time.
