$90 for a barely 10 min exam that was "mandatory" for me to get the Meloxicam (that I could've ordered through chewy)
    Rachel K.

I'm writing this review 2 months after the passing of my beloved Syrian hamster Marcel - who lived to be 3 years (100 hamster years) old. I saw some recent reviews and would like to call out this business for the treatment of Marcel. Hamsters are different from other animals, as they don't go to the vet regularly unless there is something wrong. Traveling + driving to the vet causes considerable distress - as hamsters follow crepuscular/nocturnal schedules and sleep in their burrows during the day. Around May 2023, I noticed Marcel was walking with a slight limp on his leg. I thought at first it was a broken limb - and called Crossroads vet to schedule an appt. (it was the closest option) and suspected Marcel would be needing a pain medication like Meloxicam. I had called previously to see if I could bypass the appointment (as I was concerned about the toll of traveling on Marcel) just to get this generic med, and was denied - which I understood at the time given that I wanted Marcel to have an examination. When I got there, I had to wait an extra 20-30 min past our appointment time. While Dr. Jennifer was nice and gentle with Marcel she didn't offer much of an examination (it totaled less than 10 min) or explanation beyond a broadly vague "it's brain cancer" and "we don't do testing for that here" when Crossroads Vet is very clearly advertised as servicing exotic animals. I appreciated that Dr. Jen did provide alternative testing locations. They charged me $90 for this not even 10 minute exam (see image) and on the report even listed Marcel's birth date incorrectly as August 15 (when I wrote it was August 3). I understand the risk of testing on an elderly hamster but I was very distressed after hearing that conclusion without any sufficient exam or explanation. Marcel was so brave during the whole ordeal - and it was aggravating knowing I could have just ordered the generic Meloxicam for much cheaper online at Chewy pharmacy, and spared Marcel's traveling discomfort. I never received a follow up email or check in after this appointment as a first-time patient - which when thinking of long-term care, is a red flag. I wasn't noticing any results from the Meloxicam as Marcel's condition worsened while he was in palliative care - and called to see if there was a CBD like alternative for hamsters, and was prescribed Gabapentin. For this occasion, they finally let me bypass the appointment process to just pick up the medication (which totaled over $50 for a tiny vial month supply). This is where it gets VERY concerning: the vet listed on the Rx, Bruce Singbeil (a different vet who never saw Marcel) prescribed 0.25mL of Gabapentin when it was supposed to be significantly less - presumably 0.025mL (see attached images). I was already thrown off by the different vet listed on the prescription. 0.25 mL would have been a LETHAL dose for my tiny Marcel, and if I had not known what I know about hamster care and medication, I don't even want to imagine what would have happened. Even anyone with common sense could see how that dosage was so much for a hamster weighing 110g. I immediately called the office and barely received an apology from the receptionist - I never received a formal apology or accountability from the actual vet who made such a careless, devastating error. I saw a previous review calling Crossroads Vet out for a prescription error that led to the passing of a dog. It is horrible that there is continued carelessness and I will most certainly take my future pet children to other exotic vets - do better.

I can't believe some the reviews on here. I worked as a receptionist at a vet clinic for almost a year and am pretty aware of the standards and normal routines of the vet industry. Dr. Bruce has been nothing but great treating both my cat and dog within a week from each other. My dog got sick late last week during our first snow fall this year. After calling around to see who could fit her into their schedule (and ensuring they were open with the snow conditions), Dr. Bruce and the receptionist/vet tech (I forgot your name and couldn't find your profile online, sorry!!) were able to easily accommodate Gracie last minute. This morning, Jax, my cat, was yowling his head off after attempting to go up our stairs. I knew something was wrong when he wouldn't weight bare on his R hind leg and screamed when I touched his leg, so I called Crossroads Vet immediately. Again, the receptionist/vet tech was very friendly and able to accommodate our needs and, after confirming with the Dr, had us come in right away. Dr. Bruce performed a thorough physical on Jax and prescribed some pain meds. As he prescribed, if Jax still has pain in the next couple of days, we'll bring him in for X-rays but I greatly appreciate Dr. Bruce's attentiveness and not wanting to push to get X-rays right away (as was what I witnessed at the clinic I worked at previously). All in all, Dr. Bruce provided medicines for both of my pets based on their symptoms and I didn't feel like he prescribed anything or did anything they didn't need at the time. He also took the time to explain things in a way that made sense. Thank you so much for your help and thorough care. We will be back!

Today was a completely messed up day. My wife and I had to let our beloved cat pass along. The weeks prior had us meeting with Dr. Bruce Singbeil and his team for treatment options. From a busted fang to insanely quick onset neurological issues, Dr. Bruce and his team treated our cat with fairness and excellent care. When it came time for our beloved family member to pass, Dr. Bruce and his associate stayed with my wife and I through the ordeal. The team was kind and understanding to our needs at all times. I lost my best friend today. It was his time to go. Sometimes people lose sight of the fact that our doctors are still human. Not every animal can be healed and not every life can be saved. The nice folks at the Crossroads Vet did right by us. When we choose to save another life, we will be returning to you. Thank you.

i discovered my favorite chicken was not doing well today at 10 minutes to 5 pm. Dr. Bruce agreed to see her and she is now on antibiotics and starting to do better. I am grateful to him and his staff for seeing her even though they were officially closed. You guys are the best!

Dr. Bodily represented the Northwest at its best -- honest, collaborative, grounded, and genuinely committed to the animals in his care. What's here now feels nothing like that legacy. Nearly a full year ago, three vets -- Dr. Brown, Dr. Arnaz, and Dr. Bennett -- told me my senior cat, Tasmin, had only days to live. Weeks at most. Now it's nearly a year later, and at 18 she is still here, eating, active, and proving every one of their bleak predictions wrong. Instead of expressing relief or humility, they reacted with irritation and defensiveness. Whenever I shared good news, they ran straight back to the same line: "She's dying soon." Things came to a head when my pet sitter brought Tasmin in recently for a chronic issue, and Dr. Bennett immediately went back to pushing euthanasia -- again. No exploration of treatment options. No curiosity. Just the same script. It felt less like medical judgment and more like avoidance of the fact that their earlier predictions were flat-out wrong. When I pushed back and advocated for my cat, the situation became downright hostile. The practice manager, Arty, jumped in with a barrage of condescending, accusatory messages -- despite having never met me, never spoken to me, and never once tried to understand the situation. He didn't just "ask me to leave." He berated me, inventing claims that I was "harassing" the vets simply because I expected communication and accountability. I asked, repeatedly and calmly, for a basic apology for how I was treated. Instead, he told me to never come back and never contact them again. The entire exchange radiated classic passive-aggressive California-transplant energy -- brittle ego, zero accountability, all attitude. Whatever Northwest values once defined this building have been completely overwritten. This clinic does not collaborate. They do not listen. They become defensive the moment you ask a question and combative the moment you advocate for your pet. After nearly a year of incorrect predictions, they still refused to consider that they might be wrong. Their hours tell the same story -- closing early, no weekends, minimal flexibility. Convenience for themselves, not care for animals. And their "cat-friendly" branding? Pure marketing. When they opened, the walls were covered entirely with dog artwork. Only after I pointed it out did a few token cat images appear -- and even those looked like afterthoughts. If you value honest communication, actual collaboration, or simply want a vet who won't shut down and lash out when questioned, look elsewhere. Midlakes Veterinary Hospital made it painfully clear: the priority here is defending themselves, not caring for your pets. Your animals deserve better
