Indian Lakes Campground - Free open air concert

I have been coming to Indian Lakes Campground for 6 years now and have met many wonderful people…read moreand some of the best friends on the planet. I recently saw the negative review by a previous camper who wants to give a very one sided view of the campground and its owners. First of all, no one is evicted for a first offense. The campers in question had small children and would put them to bed early and stay up all night and sleep until afternoon while their children roamed the campground for hours in search of food because their parents couldn't get out of bed. After they were confronted they constantly harassed the people they thought told on them and tried to intimidate them to get them to leave. The cop that was mentioned did in fact break his leg but after he bounced a check to the campground and after given an opportunity to make payments again failed and was asked to leave. The campground owners will work with people but you have to be honest and make good on your promise to pay as they are running a business and not a charity. The owners have increased the fees but not every year. Some years up to $200 for the most expensive lake lot and nothing for others. The owners installed sewers with lift stations throughout the campground and pay tens of thousands of dollars a season to have the sewer treated from the Town of Wolcottville (who they tried to have meter the usage in hopes of getting the price down so not to pass it on to the campers to no avail). My family and I have made some wonderful memories here and love this place. The owners are wonderful family people themselves who will go through great lengths to accommodate anyone. I for one am grateful that the owners try to regulate the partiers so the kids and fisherman who get up early to be on the lake can also enjoy the park. There are also older people who come to relax. The bottom line is that you get what you pay for. This is a first class facility that is constantly being upgraded.

Beautiful beach area with soft, fine sand and a wonderful place to watch the sunset…read more Although the Weko Beach website reads "Dogs prohibited" on the beach, there is a dog friendly trail where you can walk South towards Warren Dunes where leashed dogs are allowed. For a visit in October, and after the Summer season, there is no $15 fee to enter the parking lot at this beach. However the concessions and restroom are also closed for the season. That was a nice surprise to not have to pay a fee, since we were only coming to watch the sunset. The parking lot is much smaller than at Warren Dunes but it was convenient to come for a short time. We look forward to returning one day!

This place is by far better than any beach in Chicago and it's worth the drive out. $15 to park and you don't have to walk too far and it's never terribly busy either. As long as you stop here early you'll be okay. They have changing rooms and concession stands as well though the food is a bit overpriced and the restrooms and changing rooms aren't the greatest but they're okay. This place is also great to go on a nice little walk too and there's plenty of people walking their dogs as well. Overall, I thought this was an incredible Beach check out and I will definitely come back again.

Can I please add another star? Visited with my husband and…read moredog. The folks here went above and way beyond to accommodate an unusual need I had. The grounds are meticulously maintained with level, shaded spots that provide great privacy. If you have kids, they will NEVER get bored here. Well-stocked store, clean laundry facility. If we are in the area again, this will be our go-to place!

Great family-friendly RV campground / resort…read more Our site was beautiful - it backed up against a forest and was close to the pond. It was a bit tight / cramped (my picnic table was virtually on top of the neighbor's sewer line), but the neighbors were friendly and everything was clean and well-kept. The restrooms and showers were spotless. Cute playground - we loved the pirate ship. The pond was a great place to walk our dog, and it seemed like most people (like us) were cleaning up after their pets because we didn't see dog piles everywhere like many other campgrounds in the area. One warning: This place is surrounded by a pond, a lake, and plenty of forest, and has a serious (but understandable) mosquito problem. We tried to sneak in eating 2 slices of pizza quickly upon arrival before putting on bug spray, and my youngest son got 14 bug bites on his legs in less than half an hour. Beware and plan accordingly! I'd highly recommend long sleeves, long pants, and shoes and socks, even if it's hot outside. Biggest qualm: my son was crying for the last 10 minutes of our drive because he was going to pee his pants and this is in the middle of nowhere - we hadn't seen a gas station or anywhere legal for him to go "number 1" since leaving I94. I'll admit I drove 15mph in a 10mph zone on the way in, because the map showed a bathroom next to the pool on the entrance road (before any of the campsites, before any pedestrian areas), and I wanted to avoid a pee-pee incident. After dropping them off, I stuck to the speed limit even when it dropped to 5mph. I was chastised (politely) upon check-in to watch my speed, which is completely reasonable. Separately, someone ran up to my wife and child (neither of whom were driving) as my 5-year-old came out of the bathroom and yelled at them, which is not okay. There are good ways to handle an admonition, and bad ways, and whoever yelled at my wife and son needs to learn a bit of tact. This is the only reason our stay wasn't a 5-star experience. It wasn't an isolated or stranger incident as the yeller was also the person who called the front desk to complain about it and I'm certain was a local / seasonal / permanent resident. There's "enforcing rules" and then there's "yelling at children for something they had no control over," and the management here was much closer to the latter.
