My sister and I were dressed in average bikinis for women in our early 20s (nothing too cheeky or revealing but skin was showing). Staff were very quick to politely tell us we were not up to dress code. The staff was polite about it, but the rule itself is old fashioned and not at all with the times. As a young woman its NEAR IMPOSSIBLE to find a quality modest bikini that doesnt show a little butt. Out of touch rules that disproportionately affect women. Very disappointing to see the sexist turn the ocean club has made.

Amelia Island Plantation is a 1,350-acre Florida beach resort. At the resort there are acres of villas, a 3.5 mile strip of private beach and they are completing a second hotel by the end of 2012. The resort does offer a shuttle service so it is easy to get around the resort without jumping into your car. The resort provides many amenities including a spa, gym, hotel pool, restaurants, tennis courts, golf, a few shops. I used the spa during our visit and was disappointed at the lack of amenities at the spa. I was expecting to spend several hours at the spa, but there was no jacuzzi hot tub, steam room or dry sauna so once my spa service was finished I just showered and left. The spa should reduce their prices if they are not going to provide any of these typical spa amenities. I also worked out at the resort's fitness center during my stay. The gym was small, but had a decent selection of weight machines and the cardio equipment included built in tv sets. The locker room amenities were pretty much nonexistent so I ended up not showering in the locker room and took the shuttle back to my room so I could shower there instead. Overall, we had a nice and relaxing vacation and enjoyed being lazy and getting room service, but the area was just a little too quiet for my taste. I would only consider returning to the Amelia Island Plantation if they update and remodel the facilities on-site.

But even without AC, once the sun went down, it cooled down enough to sleep in the evening, and wake up in the middle of the night to watch the sky from the star-gazing field a short walk from our site. The best part was probably the 4 camp kittens. They were very friendly and funny, and will be for sure going back later in the year, when it is a little bit cooler, to see how they kittens are growing.

The folks who work at the campground; Charleen, Kelly & Rudy were just the most welcoming & warm people we've come across in a while. Check in/out was super easy, firewood that you purchase is delivered right to your cabin. Theres a shop with lots of things if you forgot anything & really pretty reasonably priced. Plus there's dvds you can just check in or out for free. Theres an adorable patio off the main building where we had a blast playing battleship and shuffleboard. We also ordered food. I'm from Pennsylvania and a good cheesesteak is far and few between it seems down south.. this place has the best cheesesteak I've had in years. It was hot, greasy & packed with flavor. Food was 10/10. Also; the bathrooms were surprisingly clean & it was a rainy day/night. Hiking trails are a 5 minute drive. Theres a dog park at the campground, that was awesome. The only semi negative thing I could say is the cabins are pretty close to each other so there's not a ton of privacy. If you're looking for an intimate camping experience, that also feels really safe, this is the perfect place. We will definitely back and I do HIGHLY recommend! At its peak, the train station served a quickly growing Fernandina Beach during the last year of the 19th Century. Today, the train depot turned welcome center, is a great first stop when visiting the island. The staff is very helpful and provides a plethora of information about the area, current events, history of the city, and the best places to go for a meal or night out. The welcome center provides a variety of free brochures, some include coupons to local restaurants and shops. There is not a lot to see inside, however, the outside of the welcome center provides a great opportunity for a photo op. If you are in the area, I recommend stopping in to talk to one of the volunteers to get the low-down on what's going on in the area. You never know, you might find serendipity.

My daughter had just purchased her first electric vehicle and, following the vehicle's navigation, was directed to the property's EV charger. Believing it was an available charging station, she plugged in for approximately 10 minutes. It was an honest mistake, and as soon as she realized the charger was private, she apologized and immediately began leaving. Instead of a polite conversation, she returned to find a handwritten note taped to her car accusing her of "stealing electricity and trespassing on private property." When she tried to explain that she was new to owning an EV and had simply followed the car's directions, the owner/manager repeatedly told her she "should know how to use her car." Even while my daughter was already backing out of the parking space, the owner continued threatening to call a tow truck. This happened on a quiet Monday evening, not during a crowded holiday or busy weekend when the parking lot was under pressure. There was no need to escalate the situation the way it was handled. I completely respect a property owner's right to restrict the use of a private EV charger and ask someone to leave. That was never the issue. The issue was the complete lack of courtesy, empathy, and professionalism shown to someone who made an honest mistake, apologized immediately, and corrected it without argument. The hospitality industry is built on customer service and grace. This interaction demonstrated neither. Based on the way my daughter was treated, I would not feel comfortable recommending or supporting this business.
