Working out has played such a big role in my mental and physical wellbeing in the past couple of…read moreyears so when I moved to Seattle, finding a gym was a priority. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into TPH and immediately felt like home. After trying out different gyms on ClassPass and other crossfit gyms in the area, I finally tried out TPH trial week - best decision ever. Programming - I am not new to crossfit but when I first started crossfit, the workouts didn't make sense to me. After a while I realized that good programming matters, as well as knowledgeable staff. The programming at TPH really impressed me, and that it is communicated well to the class. Every workout primes you to move better in the next workout, a lot of focus on form, safety, efficiency rather than just gains and PRs. Community - members and coaches are really friendly and supportive. Great mix of experience levels. There are some community activities that I have not had the opportunity to partake in, but maybe in the future. Space & equipment - Any and all equipment you need, and they are well maintained. There is a separate space in the back for personal training, and individualized training. Normal class size is about 8-12, sometimes we have to share a rack no more than 2 per rack - and the workouts are well thought out so it's never an issue with equipment or space. Bonus: Parking lot! (but don't park immediately in front of the Subway storefront because the Subway folks get mad).

They make various activities to keep the community included. Such as the seasonal Friday Lifting Nights or Friday Night Light Hero Wods. The gym has made such a great job with taking precautions due to COVID. So no need to worry when you're here! Not only they provide group classes, you have the option of Personal Training, Nutrition Program and/or Individual Design Program. So, no need to adjust to only one thing! If you had certain goals and need that extra help, I HIGHLY recommend getting a coach to help YOU. If your in the Ballard area and need a great workout, I recommend having this place in mind.

I attended this morning through ClassPass (signed up on the app, attended class), and I get this crappy email from the owner (see below). She informed me she would charge my credit card for $28.61 (she did!) - my card is on file only because of my previous contract. She sent me an even longer email explaining more or less that ClassPass isn't great to work with. Not my problem. ClassPass told me that the Fitness Lab never told them they wanted to be removed. From Dillon, the owner: Thank you for attending our 6am class this morning. It's always great to have you here. Unfortunately, we are no longer working with ClassPass and I am not sure how you were able to register for a class. I have contacted them and will let them know they need to refund your credits. We have not had sessions available since April. You may want to follow up with Classpass on your end and ask them to refund your credits. You will be charged for your session at our regular drop-in rate.

I have been training here for about 3 months now and here is my preliminary review…read more 1) Cleanliness - The mats are swept / mopped after classes. I have yet to think about the mats or my partner as anything less than spotless. The other students take pride in their school and keep it as well as themselves clean. 2) Size - This could be my only complaint. The classes attract a lot of people and if it were possible to expand another couple hundred square feet, it would be perfect. As it is, we'll bump into each other on an odd occasion - it's nothing that happens all the time. Just everyonce in a while when sweeping someone. 3) Instruction - Incredible!! Brian Johnson is a Machado Blackbelt under David Meyer & John Will. He has won multiple tournaments (including NAGA, ADCC & Grapplers Quest plus more) and he is the primary teacher for the basics & advanced classes. - One of the reason I chose to train at NWJJA was Brian's Curriculum and his willingness to show & explain it. Basic 24 (Which will soon be turning into the Basic 48) is a set curriculum that students must attend before going to the advanced classes - Giving everyone a base from which to build. - With his new curriculum it is focused into 4 separate days a week. Example: Mon = Guard Attacks I Tue = Guard Attacks II Wed = Guard Attacks III Thu = Guard Attacks IV. This way you are learning new things, but are drilling the same core concept for the whole week. And this is just the GI classes. NWJJA also offers NoGi classes as well as open mats & competition classes. NWJJA offers, what in my opinion, is a great way to learn. Consistantly building on the foundation in a progressive way. 4) Other Students - The atomosphere in NWJJA is relaxed and welcoming. Every single time I have made a mistake or had a question, they were there helping me and explaining how I should do things. I've read that in other schools, some people don't even try to remember names until someone has achieved their blue belt (About a year or 2). Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) has a high drop out rate. It ain't easy and belts aren't handed out as often as some other styles. As such you see a pretty tight group of blue belts and up, because a lot of white belts quit for their own reasons. This hasn't been my experience so far with NWJJA. Blue, Purple & Brown belts train regularly in the basics class and I have never felt ignored. That's my review so far! Also - beginning soon there will be a kids class as well.
