My husband and I joined CFH a little over a year ago, and I can hardly express how much I love this gym! The gym itself is clean and spacious, but it's the people that really make it an amazing experience. The owners and instructors are so welcoming, and make even the toughest workouts fun. I was completely new to crossfit when I started at CFH. I felt intimidated by the exercises before my first class, but that all changed once I started working with the coaches and attending classes regularly. The coaches are patient, and great at breaking things down in a way that really makes sense. I have accomplished things I didn't know were possible for my body -- box jumps, rope climbs, pull ups, and speed steps were all things I'd NEVER done before training here, and now I love these movements! Despite these being group classes, it feels like you're working with a personal trainer because of how specific and targeted the workouts are. All of the coaches pays close individual attention to your progress and technique, and are always available to help guide you to optimal movement (or find a modification if something is too challenging for your body). I feel very supported in this gym, and I've come so far in my strength/fitness goals since starting here. A community with a great camaraderie. I'm an ICU travel nurse from NYC & got an assignment in Nashville. It was my first time to be in the south. When I visited CFH, I felt welcomed right away that I belong with them. The coaches are wonderful & they take time to observe each member during class. They are dedicated & good motivators. You can lift weights and work out many places, but CrossFit Hermitage is my favorite place of all TIME. Knowledgeable coaches with differing areas of specialized ability + intentional workout planning in cycles that build upon the work you put in last week + constantly varied exercises that don't leave you in rut = awesome. Literally best decision I have ever made was joining this phenomenal gym. Coaches and fellow members have not only become friends but family. I started out unhappy and unfit and really had no clue what to do. Brandi and all her crew got me back to loving the gym and helped me find that motivation I needed to get my life back in shape. My husband and I joined CFH hoping we could get some consistency in our workout routine. We knew about CrossFit from our siblings but we had no idea how much of a treat it would be to join the gym that is CrossFit Hermitage! I come from a competitive swimming background and in the recent years (reads "I turned 30 and nothing is the same as my 20's body") I got into running and have done 3 half marathons and a bunch of 5K/10Ks. While I enjoyed running leisurely, my natural tendency of competitiveness wanted more but I never knew how to train to be a better/faster runner. Eventually I started getting injured here and there and running became more of a drag than enjoyment and that's when we joined CFH. First of all, before CFH, I never TOUCHED a barbell in my life, let alone lifting anything above my chest; I just couldn't pick up anything heavy to go above my chest is more accurate way to describe it. After the foundation classes with Coach Brandi, we were well informed and taught the proper forms on all things: squats, push-ups, deadlifts, sit-ups, pull-ups etc. So getting into full CrossFit was a bit scary but also exciting to see what I would be capable of doing. First of all, let me just say, I couldn't do a single push-up before. A year and some months into it, not only am I able to do multiple push-ups, I am squatting heavier than my bodyweight, snatching more than half my bodyweight, and did Hand Stand Push-ups (upside down push-ups) during one of the Open (competition) events! It is really easy to see the physical results from a year ago to date. Oh and the running thing - I'm way better at it now than ever! But the best and most important part of CrossFit Hermitage is that we are surrounded by amazing coaches and great community anybody can ask for. We ALL support each other. We ALL cheer for one another. If a WOD is killing you? They will come save you or be dead with you (not literally...). I can't really describe how awesome this community is because you just have to be there to experience and soak it all in! I kept going back and forth about whether or not to dive into CrossFit. SO GLAD I chose CrossFit Hermitage! The coaches really took their time with this newbie and had much more patience with me than I had with myself. And the members!! I felt instantly like I was part of the community and I really needed that to encourage me on my journey. I originally started back last Fall but then had a medical situation which brought it to a screeching halt. I was so bummed! Brandi kept in touch with me through my recovery and made sure I knew that they would welcome me back as soon as I was ready. Well, I finally got medical clearance in June and started my first full month in July. It's taken a beat for me to get back to where I was but between the coaches and the members, the future is bright!! As a fairly new crossfitter, who has been dedicated to the art these past 6 months, I did not want fall off my game while on vacation for two weeks. So, I coordinated with several gyms in TN & AR to work out with during my travels... UNEQUIVOCALLY Crossfit Hermitage is the best gym I have ever come across. If you want to belong to a gym that cares about your safety, your progress, and how much fun you are having then you want to be a part of this family. Albeit the following anecdotal story is small, it demonstrates how the coaches care for their athletes. When I walked into the restroom, above the trashcan there was a sign that stated "no food in trash can", but then it went on and explained why there was no food to be thrown away and I thought to myself that if the staff took the kind of time to explain a simple rule like that, then they will definitely explain why you need to do a movement or workout a certain way. The WOD that day included Deadlifts which had long been my Achilles heel, but no more. While warming up the coach looked over, saw what I was doing, made a recommendation, and voila I'm on my way to becoming a deadlifting beast. Give Crossfit Hermitage a try! Honestly, I think I'd run out of space before I could get halfway through fully describing how wonderful, welcoming, and life-changing the community at CrossFit Hermitage is, so I'll just hit a few highlights. Before Crossfit, I would never have considered myself an "athletic" person. I'd been fortunate enough to lead a reasonably healthy lifestyle for most of my life, yet I'd never felt strong, fast, or particularly fit. I never played team sports as a child; let's be honest, I didn't even like to get sweaty. My idea of a workout was carrying a backpack full of textbooks from class to class. So exercise? Fitness? Working out? The gym? On my list of "things I'd like to do," these were right up there with "sit in traffic on 440" and "try to lower my cable bill by phone." But once you roll into your third decade of life one thing leads to another. You can't deny your love of tacos, your pants (even the stretchy ones) no longer fit quite the way they should, and maybe you just want to keep up with life. So you try a fitness program -- maybe one of the at-home ones with the funny trainer. But you get bored or you skip days or you aren't even sure you're doing the moves correctly (hint: you aren't.) Then you decide to just watch what you eat a little more carefully. But in a world where there are tacos, how can you expect that to work? It took me three weeks to sign up for CrossFit 101. Pushing that button to join the 101 class felt almost exactly like jumping off a bridge into icy waters below (haven't we all been there?) I fully expected to end my first class collapsed in a pool of sweat (and maybe even vomit) with a coach barking insults about my mom. I've now been a member for three years. THREE. YEARS. In that time, here's what's happened: - I've become part of one of the most welcoming and supportive communities around. When I say these people are family, I mean it fully and sincerely. The coaches and members care about you inside and outside the gym. Last one to finish your workout? You're going to have the entire class cheering you on to keep going. Hit a new personal record or fitness goal? Prepare your hand for high-fives. Need to borrow a table saw? I'm not even kidding, the CFH community is right there. - I've received specialized, focused training on specific personal goals -- as part of my regular membership. In addition to the regular workout programming, the coaches at CFH are happy to provide additional individual support for your personal goals -- this may include nutritional goals, overcoming mobility or other limitations, training for a race or sporting event, or even helping you do your first ever unassisted pull-up. - I've learned *proper* form for a variety of athletic movements -- some I'd done before and some I'd never tried. In the process, I have received attentive assistance and instruction directly from certified coaches in order to prevent injury. You don't get that with those at-home programs. You don't even get that with most group fitness classes. Every single movement in every single workout can truly be modified to meet the needs of every member, whether 9 or 90. There hasn't been a single workout that I "couldn't do." - When I started CrossFit, I could barely lift the empty barbell over my head. I can now deadlift nearly twice my weight, squat more than my body weight, and lift 85% of my body weight over my head. Not only does this feel great as a milestone, but if you need to carry some mulch through Home Depot it's a great skill to have! - I cut over five minutes off my 5K time. In addition to the standard CrossFit classes, CFH offers a variety of specialized training classes. Don't want to lift barbells? There's a class for you. Want to work on running? There's a class for that, too. Hate running, but want to hate it less? Yep, CFH can help you, too. - I've signed up for, completed, and ENJOYED community athletic events. - I've experienced varied programming that keeps me from getting bored, but includes just enough repetition and retesting to let me track and document progress. The best of both worlds! - I've learned a tremendous amount about myself and my capabilities. As a result, I've become more confident -- not just in my athletic abilities, but in work and daily life, too. I'm also more patient and less easily frustrated by trivial matters. So if you're reading this and still thinking "But I've seen CrossFit -- it looks hard." Well, yes. It IS hard. But that's also what's so wonderful about it. CrossFit -- and specifically the coaches and community at CrossFit Hermitage -- WILL enable you to do those things you never thought possible, both inside and outside of the gym. My boyfriend and I train at Crossfit Hermitage, and it is by far the best Crossfit gym around! Brandi and Tom are extremely knowledgeable, and each class is organized, efficient, and challenging regardless of your skill level. There is definitely a "team" environment as everyone works great together and has a great time! I was not getting the results I wanted from another Crossfit gym in the area where I previously trained, so I left that gym for Crossfit Hermitage. I am still pretty new to Crossfit, but so far I have really enjoyed it! The workouts can be intense but are always a lot of fun. What I like most about Crossfit is that it challenges me mentally and physically and makes me want to continue to try harder and set goals for myself. This was my first experience with crossfit. I have always worked out fairly regularly but I wouldn't consider myself an expert at all when it comes to weight lifting. This has been such an amazing experience. I am 1 year into my crossfit journey and I have to say that I absolutely love it. However when I visit other gyms now I am realizing that my gym is one of the better gyms. There is so much space to really get a fantastic work out and the people are so friendly. After coming to the conclusion that I needed to improve my general health and attempt to "get in shape", I had heard from a variety of friends who had started taking part in Crossfit classes. I wasn't sure if it was for me but I knew that anything had to be an improvement from time spent on a treadmill. So I decided to give it a try. 3+ months later and I'm still going because I see & feel real improvements. The workouts offer modified versions to allow all skill levels to succeed and being on the more "amateur" level, I appreciate that. Even though the sessions are in a group setting, you still get the individual attention needed to not only improve your technique but also to do your best. My husband and I were looking for an exercise program that was different than your typical "Y" workout. When someone told us about CrossFit, we did some research and were happy to find a box in Hermitage close to our house. After watching a class, we instantly knew that it was what we were looking for. Brandi and Tom (the owners and coaches) were very welcoming and told us about their programming. We signed up for the introductory "101" class before we left that night. We were so excited to have found a new and interesting workout program! From our first class, we were hooked. We have been doing CrossFit now for 10 months and it has totally changed our lives. Our bodies have been completely transformed, our overall health is better, our energy levels have improved, etc. But most importantly, I believe, is the friendships that we've made since joining CrossFit Hermitage. We are a family that loves to spend time together. That time just happens to be spent doing amazing workouts, getting stronger and cheering each other on every step of the way. I could write a book about all the things I love about CrossFit Hermitage! But I'll get to the point here. Brandi and Tommy are great coaches who not only know how to motivate people to achieve fitness levels that they didn't think were possible, but they also research and study the latest training methods to make sure they are steering us in the right direction. They also aren't afraid to try out training methods and nutrition on themselves to make sure they work before they program various workouts for us. Since joining CFH a little over a year ago, I have made significant progress in my strength and conditioning. It's very exciting to reach goals that I didn't think were possible, but it's almost more fun when you tell your coaches your goal, that they get more excited about you achieving it than you do! The community and fun aspect keeps me coming back and striving for more. I also love the fact that everyone at every level can come and enjoy a workout together and cheer each other on, because of the appropriate scaling of weights and reps for each workout.
